Why are threads not wanting S/S romance labeled as trolls?

Because if a person who is disgusted by something can't "choose" to like it, their whole argument about that thing being a choice falls to pieces.
If attraction is something that can just be consciously switched on and off, my attraction to the same gender should be able to be switched off as easily as you can switch on an attraction to the same gender.
Since you can't, and I can't, the 'choice' argument is absurd.

If its a choice they should be able to choose to become aroused no? I don't get turned on watching lesbian porn but I might be a weird straight person. I dunno.
either being gay is a choice and you can choose to be disgusted. Or it's not and your reaction is perfectly natural.
Personally I go with the latter.

For example, say in a future Dragon Age game, we find out both Wade and Herren have wives. While I think that would be hilarious, it would also seem far removed from how there characters were established. They NEVER stated their sexuality, but it was heavily implied. This consideration should be taken into account with all characters. Due to Ashley's religious nature, I would find it more unbelievable for her to be portrayed as bisexual than Kaidan, for example.

See. I don't understand this logic. Can a bisexual NOT be religious? Especially in the future where all religions have already been rattled by the discovery of the Prothean ruins on Mars?mjb203 wrote...
Personally, my concern with this is character consistency. Characters have always been one of Bioware's biggest strengths, but if the writing starts getting sloppy in an attempt to appeal to a larger demographic then that is a bad thing in my book. Please note, that I feel some of the characters could be written in a convincing way to swing both ways (from a meta-game perspective), but some would be much more difficult to portray in a believable way.

I don't get it either. Especially not considering the dozens of other sins people most likely commit on a daily basis.

I NEVER stated that, only that I would find it harder to believe. Of course there are religious homosexuals and bisexuals.
How would you feel if Wade and Herren turned out to be straight? Would you scream retcon, or would you accept it as part of their characters?

Wade and Herren turning out to be straight would be a contradictory we know they're in a relationship. There's no way they're straight. Just like Ash's boyfriend and relationship with M!Shep would make her becoming a lesbian a contradiction. If they turned out to be BISEXUAL however I would accept it to be apart of their characters. Bisexuality = attraction to both genders. Lesbian/gay = attraction to the SAME gender and ONLY the same gender.
Ash would be a bisexual not a lesbian. I don't know why people don't seem to understand this.

House_Hlaalu. Do you really believe homsexuals are homosexual by choice? They just choose to like men?
In many instnaces (not always, mark it, but in many instances), it is more socially induced than not. Sometimes out of desire to "be diffirent", sometimes due to initial lack of success in relationships with the opposite sex, adolescents decide that "may be I'm gay". An as long as there is less social pressure on this behavior, it occurs more often. Naturally, popularization of the gay life style in the media and pop culture greatly factors in gender identification by adolescents. Naturally, gays are in favor of such popularization, because it means more sexual partners for them in the future. That's what they call "agenda".
However, regarding the point ot this thread again, how is it "trolling" to simply request a TOGGLE IT OFF button in the Mass Effect 3 settings menu???

If Wade and Herren turned out to be straight - I'd be a bit confused but only because their character notes (it's in the Dragon Age toolset) and word of God (devs) say that they are a couple. I'll be honest; it didn't occur to me that these two were probably involved when I first played through DAO.

There's a difference. We've seen them in a relationship, but they could still be bisexual - so seeing them with wives wouldn't be completely implausible. Presenting them as totally 'straight', when we know they've been together, would be a 'retcon', in the absence of a good explanation.
A woman, say, whose sexuality is never defined, who one year romances solely men and then the next solely women is not "changing" from heterosexual to homosexual.
They were always bisexual, and we're seeing two different periods of their lives. In the absence of defined sexuality (and a grand total of absolutely none of the ME characters have specifically stated their sexuality), nothing is a retcon because nothing has been established.

I don't understand why people will not rather have some well written specific romances, within your chosen sexuality.
In real life, I have never had a gay hitting on me. The gays I know have a very keen sense of recognizing other gays, and are far better at picking up signals than straight people are. Being a minority, they have to be.
So, when a character of the same sex as my character hits on him/her in a videogame, it just seems off. I think perhaps it would work better if you during character creation chose between straight/bisexual/gay and had the game respond to that choice.

I took the poster's word for it and asked a question. As far as it not being forced you are under the assumption that some people aren't sheltered from homosexuals just the proposition may sour the gameplay experience depending on how they were raised. I see the lack of a option as needless frustration from those who don't enjoy nor agree with the lifestyle.MACharlie1 wrote...

Ash would be a bisexual not a lesbian. I don't know why people don't seem to understand this.
Them turning out to be straight would not be contradictory, their sexualities were NEVER stated in game. They only had stereotypical homosexual accents. It would be more difficult for me to believe because there are not a lot of religious homosexuals and bisexuals (at least where I'm from). It may be easier for others to believe, and that's fine. However, my point is, that I don't want Bioware's character writing to go downhill in an attempt to appeal to more people. They shouldn't have to sacrifice that. Everyone's seen the backlash from the Anders flirt (that he initiated).
Anyway, I think we should drop the religious thing now as I don't want this to turn into a debate on that, I was only using it as an example. I've got to get to work now, so everyone have a great day and I'll see you around the BSN later!
