Because the LGTB crowd is overly sensitive and whatever forbid that someone have a differing opinion. It's quite alright to want to be represented and "fighting" for it is something that's beautiful. But condemnation and labeling individual people who clearly have no beef but have a different viewpoint and lifestyle as anti this or that or calling them bigots makes your crowd seem like raving ******. Address individuals as what they are. Gay people are playing the "black" card more than black people. And having a skin color is an external thing unlike homosexuality or hermaphroditism.

By the way I'm black so I can say "black card" lol j/k

Point being try to be more mindful of who, what, and how you label individuals. You're acting as prejudiced as the actual bigots..

Well, I think I'm still being misunderstood here.

Your stereotypes and ideas about homosexuals are completely contrived and fabricated.

I seriously can't stand when people spew ignorance like that, so forgive me if it seems I'm trying to attack you personally.

One of these days, I'll invite a real toggle it off button. And I can sell it for like millions of dollars. I can turn off anyone I want.

Stupid Latinos next door speaking a language I can't understand...*boop!* off!

Loud children being obnoxious inside the supermarket. *boop*

Ugh...this Goddamn old lady in her Audi driving 20 miles in a 40 mile zone. SO turning you off....okay maybe this one is a real desire. *double boop*

Such a game would sell like hell.

Ouch...

But, as I've said, in real life I'd be toggling gays not off but ON! Because it means more lonely girls out there for us straight guys!

To each his own.

But anyway - a toggle seems pointless when we've got one in game. It's called Shepard not flirting with the other guy. It's called picking "Cool, bro." and not "I want you."

Nobody wants a ninjamance on any level. Hetero or ******. The problems that are foreseen by people who argue for a toggle aren't just a homosexual problem. It's a problem with romances in general. And the solution is simply have Shepard initiate any form of romance. If need be, have a double check to make sure you really want it ala Garrus. FemShep is all "lets work out stress together..." obviously meaning getting it on with Garrus acting stupid thinking sparring. Shepard has a second chance to make sure she really wants it. B)

Because 99% of the time they are trolls and post nasty homophobic remarks in there. (Including the thread you linked to. I didn't think he was a troll at first, but it turns out from his later posts he pretty much was.) I' haven't seen too many opposers post a mature discussion about not wanting s/s romance without throwing around derogatory slurs or making homophobic comments, so the locks are justified. Also, if the fighting gets out of hand in ANY thread it can be locked.
Also, saying you don't want gay people in your game is like saying you don't want black people in your game. You can kind of do it without trolling and try to justify yourself, but ultimately it's bigotry and you're going to ****** people off.

Some people were disgusted with the alien romances. Do the same thing they did. If and when the "flirting option pops up"...don't pick it. Just. Don't. Pick. It.

I definitely agree we can be overly sensitive. I'm guilty as charged with some other posters in this thread, although I have never called someone a homophobe or a bigot (even if I truly do believe that). I just can't stand ignorance or intolerance and I'll certainly call out someone's argument if I feel like I have to. I suppose it all just comes naturally after 4 years of passionate campaigning. Anyone to even consider taking away what we've worked at for so long just feels like a crime in itself. It's not very rational, but that's just how anyone would be in our shoes. It's not that we hate other opinions or don't believe they're valid, it's that any opinion in conflict with ours simply feels like an insult to what we've "fought" for in such a long time.

I don't regret calling out BSN89000, though. He was just spouting crap.

There's also a degree of hate toward the gay community. Posts from certain people calling the gay us "whiners" and "fanatics". Insults at Bioware for listening to our requests, for pandering, like we're not even worth considering. And accusing all of us of being overly sensitive is just plain false. Many of us have been very careful not to use words like homophobe or bigot and have even refrained from posting. If the entire gay community on BSN were to swoop down on these topics like shrill harpies... that would be much worse than what we're seeing now.

Is there a chance for us to get along? I doubt it. We're all on opposite sides of the spectrum and thus are in total oppositinion with our ideas and feeling on the issue. We can try to be civil, but ultimately our feelings will take over. It's best just to keep to ourselves and stay in our respective groups.

Yeah, the thing is, with Bioware you either:
a)Flirt
b)Be mean
c)Don't.Ever.Talk.To.That.Guy.

I'm fine if they are included in the game, I just don't want to see charachers who for all intents and purposes are straight in one game turn out to be bent in the next.

If they include new characters that are gay then thats fine, or existing ones who could arguably be gay like for instance kelly or jack.

Not just picking them because they're women they are, as far as I'm aware, the only two characters in the game who seem to let on that they are bisexual.

I wish more people could see where this opinion is coming from instead of arguing with it. It's a perfectly valid concern no matter what you think of it or how well Bioware could pull it off.

If done once, it could be believable, but done in any other way it would just feel forced and artificial imo.

This, the possible love interests are always automatically in love with the pc.
The relationships are terribly written.

Sometimes i wonder if the Bioware writers ever get any... :D

So then the proper thing to do is to make a thread about that problem. Because it is most certainly not limited to gay romance, or even really related at all to the romance being a gay one.

I might be a straight girl but that doesn't mean I'm okay with the Femshep/Jacob interaction just because it's straight. Or that every straight dude should be totally fine with Ash's flirts. It's an issue across the board.

Because a point of view that is based on the idea that excluding optional content makes a game better is inherently irrational. Optional content is optional. Excluding it because of your own feelings on the subject doesn't make sense. I'm not crazy about alien romances, except for asari. Turian, quarian and drell romances weren't in the first game, and there was no hint that it was even possible for Shepard to hook up with a non-asari alien prior to ME2, or that other aliens hooked up with each other. It's not a retcon exactly, but it is a whole new thing in the second game. But I would never dream of telling BioWare that they should give me an alien romance "toggle" because I find the idea of schtupping turians, quarians and drell to be icky. That's silly. I can just NOT DO THOSE ROMANCES. Other people really like those romances,  they asked for them and they got them, so I have no problem with them being in the game. More game options means more fun for more people. I'm very much pro-fun. Yes, I have a personal bias about alien romances, but I have a rational viewpoint about their inclusion. It causes me no harm that they are included, and I don't have to pursue them, so their presence in the game is fine with me. I don't see why same-sex romance inclusion should be any different for people who don't want to pursue them.
