I'm not saying I would suddenly want to abandon that character or kill him off in some virmirey way just because he was gay.

I'm just saying people don't change sexual preference the same as flippantly as they do their hair colour, it would be a highly unexpected change for that character. That's all.

That's only because your mind has been trained to think that heterosexuality is the norm, which is fine because most people ARE heterosexual. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the sexuality of these characters (minus Liara) has never been outright stated, has it? If Kaiden suddenly decided he wanted male Shepard I see no reason to believe he couldn't be bisexual, for example. It's not that far fetched, really.

I think thats fair with some characters but not all, and a few have alluded to previous relationships such as Garuss and Jacob and Kelly and Jack (Others I'm not sure off the top of my head).

But otherwise I think I'll just have to respectfully agree to disagree.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect every character to be bisexual. That'd be a little ridiculous, but at the same time, I wouldn't find it at all surprising if one or two previous characters were open to s/s encounters. I'm simply saying that alluding to past relationships doesn't really mean much and as far this subject is concerned, pretty much everyone's sexuality is up in the air (minus Liara).

I honestly couldn't care less. (and I'm a straight male gamer)
I think this is more of a matter of opinion than anything else - no character is bi, gay or het by default.
It's all a matter of role-playing.
If you like to role-play your squad as bi, they are bi. If not, then, well, they aren't.
The same way that if you like to role-play your Shep as a Paragon, then Shep's a paragon.
Or if your Shep is a non-Sheploo character. Or if Shep kept the base, saved the council or was reinstated as a SpecTRE.
It's all up to you as a player and you alone to decide on the way you play the game and affect both the characters and the world around you.

That said, the same way we choose our gender, we should also be able to choose our sexual preferences on the chargen screen - afterall, it is a trait intrinsic to you, like your background, name and origin.
Either way, and as I said before, I couldn't care less, just giving out alternatives.

Edit: grammar fail

I wouldn't worry. ME3 will be a good game with or without homosexual pandering™.

I'll remember to think of your incessent whinging when I take advantage of whatever same-sex content Bioware deigns to let fall upon the masses.

It makes it all the more satisfying, actually.

Was that a Freudian projection? Oh great, this all feels like a playground argument.

Fun.

What you're talking about, I saw him alive and well with my ManShep in ME3 ^_^ And I've even got it on camera!

Yet many are under the impression that Bioware owes them and ought to change pre-existing characters around for their sake...

Bioware doesn't owe anybody anything, and that includes the anti-S/S'ers as well. But it's silly to say that Bioware is "changing pre-existing characters" when the sexuality of none of the characters is factually known, outside of Liara's because it's a pretty big story point for the Asari in general. In fact, IIRC, characters like Kaiden were ORIGINALLY written to be bisexual. There's a reason why if you save Kaiden from death and reunite with him in ME 2 as manShep you'll notice a pretty strong sexual vibe between the two.

Either way, I care less about what sexuality the characters are and more about how well implemented it is. If it's shoehorned, then it does everyone a disservice, including the people who S/S romances. If it's well written, then I don't see an issue at all.

But I'm curious, since your main problem here seems to be changing existing characters. What if Vega was the S/S option? He's new and we know nothing about him. Would you still be against it?

Occasionally, descending to the level of butthurt children is the only way to communicate with them.

I could answer immaturity with maturity, but where's the fun in that?

If people spew out vitriolic rubbish, I don't exactly feel compelled to be reasonable in response. If the level of debate was raised (as it has been, sometimes, over the past... oh... 20 pages) then I'm happy to be civil when I reply.

But expecting a modicum of civility isn't too high a task, I think, and I frankly can't be bothered replying nicely to people who have more of an interest in denigration than serious debate,

My right to experience content trumps your right to not be offended by it. You lose all merit to your arguments when you demand that others be treated unequally and deprived of content so that you might not be mildly inconvenienced in any way. It is petty and unbecoming.

Gonna be a surprise ^_^ And yes, some of my Sheps are Sheploos. I like his face and it's kind of hard to escape "that's THE Shepard" feelings after seeing that face everywhere

And just then the closet necrophillia fanatics reveal themselves, demanding equal rights to marry dead folks, demanding any dead squadmate from ME2 to return as a LI! The horror!Image IPB

Called it. "Corpses can't say no." But I fully expect him to do something horribly boring like accuse me of being a necrophiliac instead.

I'm tired of being the better person <_<

But thanks for the suggestion.

To attempt to answer the original post of this thread: topics like this get locked precisely because they inevitably and irrevocably descend into arguments between the same cast of a few dozen people (with added random input by posters stumbling into the thread).

Nobody comes away from these arguments with a changed mind. Attitudes are too entrenched and all too easily fall into the sort of sniping that I probably inadvisedly indulged in above.

Bioware will do what they do, not everyone will be happy but a lot of people will be more happy than they were earlier. Frankly that's about the best outcome that can come from what amounts to trying to juggle ten thousand different opinions on the one topic.

I understand.

Personally, I'm done with this topic, as I no longer care who is made bi, just as long as there are clear dialouge as to what leads to romance and what doesn't. Also, I would like some friendship path dialogue. And that applies to all romances, s/s pr no.

But seriously, all these threads are annoying.....
