K no idea if this has been posted or answered before (kinda don't care because flamers will be flamers)
Will xp be after mission again, or will it be like ME1 with xp given directly after each action or kill?I simply don't know the answer.

In my opinion, they gotta go back to the ME1 way. I like to know while in a mission that I am improving and increasing my level (just makes it more RPG'ish and welcome) I really despised the end mission screen in ME2, partly because it was such small text on consoles. I guess in the end I would be ok either way, I would just prefer it in the ME1 way.

Any opinions? Or will yet another topic war start? (quite frankly I'm kind of tired of seeing it in every forum for a game that I like) <_<

In ME1, it wasn't necessary to kill each enemy. Therefore, some kills began to feel like work because of the way we leveled up (it was increasingly difficult). I'd rather be thinking "I got to kill this enemy because it's a threat" rather than "I got to kill this enemy so I can level up".

In ME2, I can't remember a time where I didn't kill every enemy. If levels are still like this, and they don't make leveling increasingly difficult, it wouldn't make any difference to me whether or not we got XP for enemy kill or at the end of the level. Though I agree, getting XP and leveling during a mission is very fun and rewarding.

i want XP earned per kill. really, i think XP should be earned for everything we do, because everything were doing is giving us experience, and thats the point of XP, to gain experience. i hate everything about leveling up in ME2.

but theve been doing things wrong wince ME2 came out. i dont see bioware removing ANYTHING ME2 has in it for ME3. just like planet scanning is making its return, so will mission complete screens.

at the very least i want the little ring noise from ME1 when i leveled up to return.

I like the way ME2 did it.

I don't care either way. Though after makes more sense with upgrading tech and biotic abilities. Though having EngineerShep hiding behind cover while reconfiguring his omnitool to add a new feature would add realism.

You are definitely right- How about a best of both worlds? Like xp during and after?
That way we can see our progress and get the ending screen. Honestly I don't know why someone wouldn't try to kill every enemy in a mission though (its an RPG so wouldn't people like to be as powerful as they can be?)

Personally I would like ME1's back, more reason to do New Game+ especially if they make the Cap higher

Speaking of caps, did Bioware talk about that ever? Because they went down from 60 to like 20 :D

It depends on how much XP they give you per mission. If the XP amount on a level is enough for at least two levels, I'd rather have it during the mission since I can immediately designate points to new skills, which gives me an edge for the rest of that mission. However, if I finish a mission and I only advance one level at the most, I don't care whether it's done during the mission or post-mission.

I'm playing through ME1 one right now, and I prefer how ME2 handles XP gains honestly.

It's a bit tedious, going after every little bit of XP just to level up. But I've managed to get to level 11-12 before I leave the Citadel, and now I've only got BDtS and Ilos so nearly done. And I'm around level 55 now too.

Yeah, much prefer ME2.

For me, the main reason I don't like doing NG+ for ME2 is how the Paragon/Renegade bars are reset. I hope how that is handled for convos will be improved in ME3.

I haven't heard anything but judging from a sceenshot I saw awhile ago I think it'll be higher like maybe lvl. 40.

I'd rather get rewarded for how I completed a mission, not how many people I killed searching every nook and cranny to get MOAR xp.

Why should I be punished for playing an infiltrator and... you know infiltrating past some enemies?

I strongly prefer end-of-mission XP. I don't care what happens in NG+

During. It's exciting to get it during the mission, level up, and use newfound power. Hated having to wait after mission, and sometimes find that it wasn't even enough!

I think the ME2 system was better balanced, you weren't as concerned about finding every hackable safe or killing every enemy.

After, never made any sense to suddenly become more powerfull in the middle of a fight. Instead you review your mission in retrospect and learn from it.

This.

In ME1, experience points were a driving point for doing a lot of things. Many times, I find myslef doing everything simply for the sake of experience points in a mission (all enemies, must die, all crates must be opened, etc).

In ME2, no matter how you handled the mission, you got experience for it (which makes a bit more sense, you don't actually learn more from killing individual enemies, only how the missions played out). So in Arrival, you could sneak by everyone in the beginning and still get the experience points you get for running and gunning. You are still rewarded for playing differently.

I prefer exp earned after, but I want to be able to break down the lump sum. I.e. I do not like how I cannot tell what I earned my exp for ala ME2. I would like to see a system like in ME1 where you got exp for things like hacking, codex pages, the like. So all in all as long as I can look at my lump sum of exp at the end of a level and break down how I got it and then compare it with my buddy and see how we differed. I'm really not a fan of giving everybody the same exp regardless of what actually happened on the mission.

I would rather get XP the Mass Effect 1 Way. With a few provisions...
Killing enemies does not give Xp, reaching objectives does. If Shepard skips out entirely from doing an optional sidequest during a mission, I want him/her to not gain the same XP as someone who does everything. Same way as with the Credits in ME2. Everyone gets a certain amount of credits for just beating the mission...but those who scavenge for Creds can earn up to double the amount.
Yet killing an enemy to reach a button behind him and using stealth/cover to reach the same button should give the same xp...you both pressed the button. In fact certain missions should reward NOT killing every enemy (Think Arrival Rescue) more then killing everyone. For a hold the line esque mission, I am fine for xp for killing the enemy...Just that this should not be the only way.

No matter what I want a lvl cap that CANNOT be reached in 1 playthrough. I still want the player to feel powerful. I just want those who NG+ a playthrough or start with Bonuses (like the +25% bonus xp for ME2) to feel like they earned something more. Me2 failed in this way to me...all my characters reached level 30. Even if I only did the main missions, Shepard was still max level b4 reaching the "Major Plot Point" for the Finale.

I'd prefer XP during gameplay and not after. After all when you do actions, you do gain more experience, so you should receive XP for every action, such as killing enemies and opening locked crates.

Why not both?

Small amounts of EXP awarded during the mission on an individual action basis (with additional bonus EXP awarded for strategic or stylish kills such as combing biotic powers - I was thinking about Red Faction: Guerilla's multiplayer mode's EXP system but I'm sure everyone else can think of other examples like the recent Call of Duty games) and one large sum of EXP awarded at the end of the mission for completion. The best of both worlds. I'm pretty sure this was the way it was handled in Dragon Age 2, and I thought it worked out great.

I really enjoy being able to level up, distribute points and unlock new abilities within a mission. It gives me a great sense of progression when I can suddenly become more proficient in dispatching enemies between encounters rather than doing all of my character building aboard the Normandy.

One thing I hope doesn't return (or at least in the way it appeared in Mass Effect 2): the end-mission breakdown screen. Nothing quite breaks the narrative like stopping the player after every mission to give them a breakdown of their stats and rewards like an arcade shooter. It should be optional. A 'press X to see mission report' prompt would be better, with all of your previous reports stored in your personal computer for future reference.

XP per kill, sure. I'm in favor of anything that rewards effort. If this game allowed for the sneaky Splinter Cell style, then I'd reverse my opinion. But, this game is the same game in which enemies see you on top of a mountain from miles away (ME1) and the tactical cloak isn't . . .quite .. . tactical (ME2).

I wouldn't mind how they did it in the Collector base, in giving you experience after major checkpoints in a mission. This would allow you to progress within a mission, while still not forcing you to look for every single enemy/locker to get the maximum amount of experience.

I would like to see a meshing . I like to decide where I want to place my general mission complete exp. points. I don't mind waiting until after the mission to do this.
I want to get a certain amount of exp. points just for completing the mission.
I would then like to gain additional exp. points or mostly credits for doing more things than just the mission. For example if I read a codex on how to use the omine (sp?) blade then I could receive more experience points. If I unlock safes then I could get more exp. points at that skill and also whatever loot (mostly credits) is inside that safe.
Every time I use a certain weapon you should gain exp in that weapon.
Every time you use a power you should gain exp. in that power.

Some of this sounds like Oblivion...
