I'll just be clear here and say that I thought the main plots in both FO3 and NV were utter garbage. I don't play FO for the incredibly weak main plots. I play it for the world itself. In all of my time playing FO3 and NV, I probably spent around 5% on main quests. The other 95% was exploring.
I agree, but Bethesda RPGs has never been one for great plots and storylines, though Daggerfall and Morrowind were somewhat the exceptions. Oblivion was as abysmal as Fallout 3, but great in atmosphere and exploration. But, outside of exploring in the most recent two Fallouts (moreso than Vegas because 3 was the first to venture eastward in the story plots) I though 3 was better and the humor was off the wall. Still though, neither of thsoe two games should be mentioned in the samebreath as 1&2. Fallout 1 is the best IMO, but 1 has The Master, maybe the best Fallout character ever created.
EDIT, fixed primary Fallout game that had the Master, he only made a mention in 2 s well as 3.

I'd rather see it take place in Europe somewhere, maybe Russia. That would be cool.
Unlikely to happen. Plus there is no Russia in Fallout's world. The Soviet Union never fell and became a US ally. I would like to See China my self around the Regions the US invaded. Would be neat to see if the two cultures blended, in a manner like CA. Or at least some hint of the state of the World short of the US and what we can learn from Raul about Mexico. But it seems we'll be stuck in the South West from the link I posted.
I really would like to know what happend to my home State, but its not important enough in a manner. Short of that I wonder how much Europe survived, given the break up of the EU, or its version and all of the various nations at each others throats and in the Mid East. It seems when the US and China launched on Each other everyone just went **** YEAH ATOMIC PARTY YA'LL!

Ever since Fallout 3 I've wanted one set in Canada
Canada doesn't exist anymore, it was annexed by the US, by the great great great great grandson of George Bush, because they didn't follow the mantra, "You're either with us, or against us".

From what I've read on the Wiki, it seems that there was a bit of a resistance. Not very effective, and the US sent in power Armor Troops, to quell it with **** like tactics, such as for each of ours we round up and shoot 20 of yours. Given the MUCH larger US population, I could see that being draining so to speak. Funny enough if any of Canada is left, I suspect it might have its own sort of Brotherhood of Steel group. Or turned into savage tribe lands given the isolation of more stable powers to the south. The fact the Commonwealth makes no mention of the Canadians is also a concern. As sad as it might be to think about it in a manner. There will be large sections of the world depopulated. Whole nations wiped out. I mean look at Las Vegas, just going off what I can see in the city I wouldn't say more than a thousand people live there, versus the Current population of millions. And hell Cali, has a population current day of 63 million people. In the future of the War it may be even hired, yet the NCR has a stable population of only 700,000 or so. The changes of the Smaller nations or lesser populated, while being densely packed (like Canada currently is) Doesn't speak well in terms of survival, Given the Bombers and missiles basically carpet bombed large regions with nukes. Enough so Mountians that were once there, no longer are, and new ones are where they weren't. Hell we don't even know if the US still has the same shape as it does in prewar maps, and even so many years later the sky's are still not clear.
Its highly likely that only in the most populated regions you will find survivors. And if the US is a score to judge on, those numbers will be around 1% of the prewar population.

I cant believe people actualy think that Bethesda did a bad job on Fallout 3....wow.
It was the single most immersive gaming experience i have ever had, and i hope Obsidian is stripped of all of their Fallout rights by next year. Bethesda forever!
Oh gawd fanboy.
I had high expectations for Fallout 3. I played the hell out of Fallout 1 and 2. While I didn't expect it to be a clone I did expect to have the crazy possibilites of the first two. I was also really dissapointed when I purposely made a low INT character and I had regular conversations. That really changed the game in the first two. I would hope Bethesda is stripped of all their Fallout rights but that's not happening.
Too bad Fallout Van Buren had to be cancelled.
Just look at these great screenshots!

EDIT: Also +1000 for Liz Lemon avatar and +500 for Jack Donaghy sig
I am no fanboy....I just enjoyed Fallout 3 more, it was darker, it felt more realistic, it was better designed (graphics), better characters, better locations!....i don't know, maybe i am just a patriot or something? (DC)
I completely acknowledge that the main story was kinda lame, but the overall design was better in Fallout 3...at least in my opinion. Thats all i can tell ya.

Funny enough I thought that it took place in the south till I did some digging the locations are actully in Maryland.naughty99 wrote...
Do you think it's possible FO4 might be set in the Southern US, even though we already had a Point Lookout DLC with Southern flavor?
And the South was mentioned in the DLC, namely the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Apperantly its a thriving...well maybe not thriving, but a heavy trade area. Problem with it being in the South is, where?

1. It's an iconic city - if you saw a box in Gamestop that read "Fallout: New York" - it would attract people to pick it up, and you can almost imagine the cover art
2. easy to recreate the 1950s cold war US vibe
3. large enough to have multiple environments for DLC, including "New Jersey" and suburban environments
4. easy to avoid rehashing previous territory of FO1 & 2
5. easy to avoid the problem of the area already being too civilized by NCR

I thought it was set in Virginia.
There are a number of areas very near DC that are distinctly "Southern" in culture and south of the Mason Dixon line. If you drive around the area near DC, you will encounter people who speak with a Southern accent.

Lol never refer to anyone from Virginia as Southern around someone from the deep south, they take it as an insult. And I wouldn't cal the Accent in the DC region Southern myself, but oh well. VA could work depending on location, New York as in your other post, I say nah too. It would be in worse chape than DC, and most likely parts of it underwater. Given its not so high over the sea in first place, and when it comes to force allignment New York is seen as a better target than DC. Smash it you smash a few million people, a major harbor, and the economic Arm of the US.naughty99 wrote...

I don't think Virginia would work for FO4 because we were already essentially there in Point Lookout and it's too close to DC.
good points about New York, although if the devs have free reign, they could make up any reason why there are pockets of people still living there.
Also New York would have some really iconic locations

Where do you all think Fallout 4 will take place?
New York
Los Angeles
Chicago
Miami
San Francisco
Texas
New Orleans
???
I think it will be some kind of iconic city, within the US, since taking place in another country would make it hard to recreate the pre-war 1950's US vibe
New York - Yes, i want this, as well as surrounding New England.
Los Angeles - The boneyard, would be cool if set around the time of F1, but now its a part of NCR.
Chicago - Yes, i want this too, would be cool.
Miami - This would be interesting. Its theme could be one of Vice, and it would be tropical, yet irradiated. Just whacky!
San Francisco - Part of NCR now. Personally i didn't much like it in F2.
Texas - Yeah, maybe.
New Orleans - Could be cool. Might be similar to Point Lookout.
Personally i would like to see Hawaii. Its still the U.S., but it could be so exotic and different. Whens the last time you saw a post apocalyptic game set on a tropical island - and with Fallout setting and humour to go with it?!

The real Fallout series died after number 2. I did play 3 and New Vegas but it just fealt like sci-fi Oblivion. Enjoyable time spend sure but doesn't fit my category of brilliant games.
