Merrill+Anders+Varric. Best party for any class.
I personally can't stand Merrill, so if I don't turn sound off, I swap her for Aveline when playing a rogue. Works not so bad too, though it's probably not optimal.

Varric is pretty best rogue imo but if you are play a rogue you don't need him. I would say Anders, Aveline, and Fenris OR Anders, Aveline/Fenris, and Merril as a mage tank(of sorts)

He's not only the best rogue though. Varric has the best dps in the entire game. AND he's ranged.
Plus, if you're taking Shadow, Varric will help you being perma-obscured (thus permanently boosting your critical damage by +50%).
He's also full of awesome.

You will probably want to switch your party around depending on what quest you are on (for tactics/abilities, as well as whether or not the quest will yield the appropriate friendship/rivalry points, if you're paying attention to that).
If you're playing Hawke as a rogue, I take it that you're going to focus on your attacks? (And then use Varric or Isabela as your "thief" - primarily for lock-picking and trap detection?) You'll find some armor and accessories that will give Hawke bonuses to lock-pick and trap detection, but having someone like Varric and alloting points toward his Cunning is helpful (plus, as stated by others, he is awesome).
Aveline can make for a decent tank with sword & shield, and I would recommend Anders as your start-out mage as he has the Heal spell.
