He is a total newbie, doesn't know the deal and will likely replace Grunt. Why is he even coming on board? Does anyone else feel this way?

There were 11 new squad members in ME2, yet people have such a problem with one new in ME3?

Another thread on Vega? XD

I don't know him much at all. It would simply be too shallow and unfair to judge him too harshly now. I would hate to diss him now and find out that I like him later. Although I doubt he will get as my likes for Kaidan, Miranda, Tali and Male Shep, but who knows.

Bioware knows what they are doing.

Vega is not a "newbie" he is a seasoned soldier.

He does not  have experience in other dealings, however.

A fair point, but if he replaces Grunt, we're gonna be steamed.

I just hope he isn't going to ask stupid questions to "familiarize" new players.

"You work with aliens? Why do elcor talk funny, what are those things trying to raze London? Can I borrow 50,000 credits for a new gun?"

ME2's primary focus was on learning a lot about the new people you're recruiting. Back story and what not. ME3's supposed to focus on the whole reapers invasion thingy, adding a new character last minute looks like BW's trying to detract the player away from the main plot by having to spend time focusing on learning about the new guy. At least for a portion of the game.

Then again, he may just be some mute **** soley there to take up space so whoever he replaced can be given a larger story arc in the grand scheme of things, while fulfilling the introduction roll to the series for those who spent the last 3 years under a rock.

My only complaint is that he looks like a tool.

We don't know that he will replace Grunt. We don't know why he's coming on board. We don't even know much about him. The game is eight months away, and it's a little premature to start questioning the 'point' of characters when we know nothing about them or the squadmate situation.

Have some faith. All the squadmates have substantial fanbases, and we all want to see our favorites return. If Vega's presence somehow single-handled ruins my ability to have my favorite on the squad, I'll voice my displeasure. Right now though, the situation is too unclear to make any judgement.

Let's not forget two facts here. No character, aside from Liara and Kaidan/Ash are certain to even live in ME3 depending on your choices. Then there's also the fact that Shepard is on Earth, the homeworld, and most likely not reachable by his party members due to the Alliance brass keeping the trial very much internal.

When the **** hits the fan, it seems Vega and Ash/Kaidan will be the only two party members for the first part of the game, where you fight to leave the Local cluster.

Whether you like Vega or not, is up to you, but the need for a new character, given what we know of the opening, makes sense.

there often is quick turnaround in the military. it makes sense that the alliance crew on the normandy would come and go as they are assigned and reassigned.

The point of Vega is to cause posters to create fifteen different threads asking what the point of Vega is.

Also, he better not be the new "Jacob" and constantly get in the face of every person I bring on board. That **** was annoying in ME2.

Development team already said he will be nothing like Jacob.

That was about ME2 and it's suicide mission though. The point of it was getting to know them and gettign their trust so they survive the SM. ME3 is about getting support from the entire races, really different thing than a suicide mission.

And Jack looks like [ everyone could fill it with quadrillion insults ]. Yet she's an amazing, complex character. Who thought Miranda would be anything more than a pretty bimbo for Shep to screw before ME2? And yet she turned out to be so much more! We don't know Vega yet. Does he looks like a dudebro? Yes. Does he act like one? We have no idea. Be open minded, you may be in for a surprise (esp. if you consider how likely it is that he's gay. In such case, he surely wouldn't be stereotypical dudebro tool made to cater to real-life idiot dudebros).

To me, Jack wasn't all that interesting until romanced due to her wall crumbling down when you pressed, and Miranda...yeah, she's just conflicting. That polar flip she does at the end of ME2 concerning  Cerberus (if you aspolde the collector base) is just .

To replace the krogan squadmate? To attract Gears of War/Cod fans? To be constantly repeating the history?

Thanks to Hideo Kojima and Peter Molyneux, I learned a long time ago to never, ever trust anything the developer's say. Ever.

Just wait for the game. He is one new character who you know very little about. It's entirely possible he is vital to the plot in a way that no other character could be. Hold your complaining until you actually know what you are talking about.

Perhaps. But it's still miles better than the initial reaction and predictions these two characters recieved.

I wasn't here when Grunt was announced.

But I wouldn't be surprised if people were complaining about him being a Wrex replacement.

The point of Vega is...BioWare wants him there. The reason for that remains to be seen. I suggest that until we know what the dealio is with Mr. Vega, those of you who are upset should get glad in the same pants you got mad in.

What was the point of making a thread like this?

He's going to be in the game, whether you like it or not. You don't have to use him.

My objection to Vega is simple: the little I know about him suggests he will have little to offer veteran, hardcore players like me who could probably recite the lore in their sleep.
