I don't understand why every single Pro-FemShep article has to tear down manShep and Mark Meer. Why does being pro-Hale have to make people so extremely anti-Meer?

To be fair, the article does give Meer a little credit, though it seems backhanded to me:

I just felt that Hale's voice acting was far better than Mark Meer's, as good as his work might have been.

I play manShep almost exclusively. I have one femShep, but that's because I really, really wanted to romance Kaidan. That said, I don't hate femShep and I love it when she gets support. I just don't see why femShep supporters can't extend manShep the same courtsey.

Because IMHO Mark Meer sucks period. He has the emotions of a dead cat.

The dialogue leading up to sex scene with Liara in ME1 Meer comes off as a desperate, dirty old man and his delivery of the lines are laughable bad. Hale on the other hand makes the same dialogue funny in a good way, caring, sweet, and sexy.

Meer reading of the "we're gonna need bigger guns" he is stating a fact with no emotion, while Hale makes the line badass and funny.

It's the same with Mass Effect 2. Meer has a few good lines namely lines that Hale doesn't have like the romance line with Jack "You're crazy and I'm technically undead." But Hale gets to deliver lines that Meer could never make work in a million years like the psychological baggage she unloads on Jacob if you romance him.

What?
Disagreement.

I play mainly as female Shepard, but I have lots of male characters too and I always use the default male Shepard. Always. I love Jennifer Hale, but I prefer Mark Meer’s voice acting. People say he is monotone, I disagree. People say Jennifer Hale’s voice acting is spot on, I disagree. Both are fantastic voice actors though and I agree that one shouldn’t be torn down to build up the other one. That is elementary, but I see it a lot here.

Honestly, it wouldn’t bother me in the least if they never made a huge deal out of female Shepard. I guess I just don’t care for “girl power”.

Yay for Femshep fans. I'm still a major manshep fan, but I like that we're all receiving more equal treatment here.

Once again I have to state though:
Mark Meer underracts (for manshep -- he plays countless other roles in which he emotes perfectly)
Jennifer Hale overracts
Probably both are due to directoral issues.

Neither is better than the other, but you're free to have preferences. No need to be combative, everyone.

Let's have a look at this tearing down anti Meer extremism:

"I just felt that Hale's voice acting was far better than Mark Meer's, as good as his work might have been. Did any of you have a similar experience?"

That's extremism? That's tearing down?

Aren't we allowed to like one better than the other? If, in my opinion, both are not equally good, am I being an extremist? If I thought I prefer Meer, would I be an anti-Hale extremist? Seriously, wtf?

Anyway, I congratulate FemShep fans.

It should have been done since first game.
And even standard edition should get FemShep in cover, alongside with Sheploo on front.

I've seen a lot more extreme "tearing down" of Mark Meer than what you have provided.

Such as, "he has the emotions of a dead cat."

I have no problem with one person preferring one over the other, but when comments like the above one are slung around, it just comes off as ignorant and combative.  Mark Meer plays several other roles in ME2 (several Volus including BIOTIC GOD, the Vorcha, etc) and a few in Dragon Age (Jethann, anyone?), and so pegging him as awful just because he was directed to voice Commander Shepard a certain way is pretty unfair.

Indeed. When I said “tearing down” I wasn’t referring to the article, but the general opinion I have seen. I think they’re both fantastic. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. In ME, I just prefer Mark Meer.

I'm talking about the article cited in the OP and KawaiiKatie was talking about that, too. As I said, aren't we even allowed to like one better than the other? If, in my opinion, both are not equally good, am I being an extremist? If I thought I prefer Meer, would I be an anti-Hale extremist? Seriously, wtf? If I say I prefer biotics over tech, am I being an anti-tech extremist? Am I tearing down tech if I said that, in my opinion, biotics are a lot cooler?

Let's stop with the hyperbole and the incendiary rethoric.

I personally think that Steven Blum would have made a great Shepard, he doesn't get enough credit IMO. He did great as Wilson but even better as Grunt. All in all I think Meer is a good VA for Male Shepard, I don't understand why people think he doesn't deliver his lines well. Granted I did pick female for my Infiltrator Shepard but I haven't gotten to deep into that career so I'll see what I think after I complete it.

Nope that is my OPINION. I played as a male 3 times in both games and after suffering through again in my OPINION through Meer's bad acting in Lair of the Shadow Broker, I said to myself: "That is it! I won't play a male Shepard again! because I can't stand Meer's voice or his acting."

Frankly I like his voice work in the Dragon Age games better, and FTR I can't stand the guy who does the male Hawke's voice either, he sounds like he's  a poor man's Timothy Dalton.

I prefer Meer's renegade voice, but I like Hale's paragon voice a lot.

I understand. I thought I would just a throw a bit of that Anti-Meer extremism just to add my two-cents. The article was tame, however.

You're free to have your opinions, but is the harsh criticism really that necessary?

I could say that Mark Meer has the emotions of a dead cat.
I could say that Jennifer Hale sounds like she's bipolar.
I could say that Jo Wyatt makes femHawke sound like a clueless teenager.

But at the risk of not wanting to make my position look combative, I don't.  They all have their qualities and I think they all did a very good job across the board.

I like both versions and played with both. I think that both voive actors make a great job and I don't think that FemShep is better than man (as many people claim), both are at the same level, more or less.

As a male I usually play as ManShep.

About time Bioware. It only took you three games to realize that people actually play as FemShep. Good job.

I personally don't get the FemShep's voice acting is good remarks. Never sounded good to me.
