i am just startet playing this game i am a mage and normaly i have alistart as tank wynne as healer and leliana  becuase she can open locks ( and i got a little girl on girl action going with herImage IPB) i have use the dragon age wiki guide for companions there and build her after this  part:
Yet another strategy for Leliana is to do nothing but invest in all the rogue and bard/duelist talent trees. This means ignoring the dual-weapon and archery talent trees. You can then equip Leliana with an axe or dagger and a small shield. She will still backstab, and the shield adds to her defense(I recommend either Mythals Blessing or Wardens Recruit shields). Going through with this strategy means she will be able to pick any loc it also adice me to point in strengt dex cunning con. The advice for weap is aodh.
i got aodht but i bought a very expensive dagger called the rose thorn in that dwarf city but is tha dagger better that aod? if i use the dagger is it a waste to  put point in strenght? that talent lethality does it effect the choice between the dagger ore the axe adn what does lethality ? i dont really get it
i hope some can clear it a little bit moore for meImage IPB
also a other question is under tactic there is defender healer damager  and so on but there is also one called scrapper? what does that?

Leliana comes pre-built with 4 or 5 archery talents, so it seems a bit of a waste to not use those.

But it usually pays to have a balanced team -- so if you need her to be a melee fighter, then that is the way you should build her. She also comes pre-built with some rogue talents.

The Lethality talent makes cunning the damage modifier instead of strength. Cunning also improves most of the rogue talents. So investing points in a rogue's cunning works very well.

I'm not sure how many strength points it takes to equip Aodh, but usually I prefer to equip rogues with daggers. I'd say equip whatever you have and then check the damage, crit chance, and armor penetration scores to see which weapon is more effective.

As best I understand, Scrapper is a preset combat style. It works pretty much the way it sounds. As Leliana learns new talents, some of those may be automatically inserted into the Scrapper tactics menu. It should work okay with the way you want to use Leliana (i.e., as melee fighter).

I like to keep Leliana with bows and let her fight from range. That keeps her out of aoe range, and it can get crowded on the front lines with too many melee fighters, as they'll have to go around each other just to get in a melee hit. Ideally, I prefer one or two melee fighters, with the rest at range. Also, I like to let Leliana use Marjolaine's Recurve, from her personal quest, and that is a bow.

If you keep Leliana as an archer, you can then focus on dexterity/cunning, which would make her more effective in combat, as opposed to wasting points into strength, constitution and etc. If everyone specializes, then you'll have a more effective team.

Leliana starts with the archer setup. The melee fighters start with scrapper. While the default setups are good enough starting out, eventually you may want to customize their tactics.

I set everyone's tactics to use their talents/spells on elites and bosses only and when surrounded and buffs. So, the party piles on the boss and they draw less agro from the the rest of the enemies. My Warden uses heavy armor so he gets most if not all the aggro. The mob follows him as he rushes past them to clobber the boss. Then I switch to the caster(s) and sleep, paralyze, etc. the whole pile of enemies.

I have her upgrade archer skills and basic rouge skills, she switches back and forth like Dalish elf rouges, I like just adding to what she already has, it works best for my party and I like her bard skills and lock picking, I traded her for Zevran when I went to the forest and missed a whole lot of chests.

she is lvl 20 now and havent put any point into any ranger skill so i think is a waste to start making her a ranger now, but i think she needed the strenght point any way for her to use that ancient elven set, i think i just gonna put point into dex frok now on and keep her as a melee using lots of posion. I have try to set her and alistar to shoot with ranged weap at start of a fight then use melee but i cant get the tactic right alistar just swichet between melee and ranged the whole time and didt shoot or hit any thing-_- but so far me team work pretty well with wynne as arcane warrior and healer with melee weap, but if i could go back in time i would have made leliana ranger, but i missread the guide on wiki and thought the why for go if i wanted to get her max in open chest was the melee way, but thx for whole the answer.
btw is there a way to see what a complete set gives in the game i can see wynne has that green icon over her skill table that she get set bonus but, i cant see what the bonus (i now i can look at wiki, but i meen to see in the game) also to what else + to healing crit chance and so on a charectar has?

Try here for armor set info:
http://dragonage.wik...m_sets_(Origins)

Btw, from the inventory, the item descriptions will say what bonus is applied if you have the full set.

Regarding Ranger talents:

Yes, at lvl 20 it may be a bit late to start investing in Ranger, though it is possible to go up to lvl 25.

I tried out some of the Ranger talents with an archer that I imported into Witch Hunt. That tree of talents actually is not too bad in certain circumstances. Certainly it helps to be able to conjure up an ally in places where no other allies are to be found. If nothing else, it adds one more ally to the party.
