No matter who builds a computer, it's going to be built out of complex components and multiple materials, as it has a complex function and purpose.
It's basic common sense at work here.

That doesn't mean you know how to work it though.  Especially if you've never seen it before, or any of the writing on it.  You wouldn't know what any button would do, and you could have a chance of wiping any data on their by not being careful.  Good luck with deciphering it and then actually being able to use any data taken from it.

You don't have to know how to work it to tell it's alien.

Wut? IT's a computer. The data in it is not magicly gone just because power runs out.
And since when can only Sheppard understand it? Vigil was speaking in a format all your team members understood.

Vigil analyzed our transmissions and learned our language as he went along, the part that only shepar understands is due to him having had a prothean beacon forced into his head so it makes sense if you
A. Pay attention.
and
B. Think a little.

Take your own advice then.:P

It doesn't matter if at first only Shep could understand something.
Vigil did end up talking to the whole team and no one recorded anything.

@Core_Commander - you didn't say this, but you made me think of it. There are WAY too many Biotics in ME. I don't mind them - I play as an Adept, but everywhere you turn... "I've got biotics!"

I think it would have been slightly more interesting if they had suggested "Eezo" develops inside living cells after prolonged exposure to a certain type of radiation that doesn't get through biospheres... blah blah... etc. blah.

Pretty soon we'll have Cerberus saying: "Biotics exist to serve man, not control him."

===

@fivefingerslap18: I don't agree... that wasn't the impression I got at all. Sovereign looked like he was fornicating with the Citadel spire while the Geth fought the war of screen.

I'm pretty sure most if not all of the Biotics in ME2 (aside from squad mates) are Asari (which the entire race have by nature) or Krogan Battlemasters which are rare. I can not recall a single human biotic enemy in ME2. I miss it back in ME1 when there were Biotic terrorists angry about the suffering that they endured for having L2 implants.

First major plot hole was right at the beginning. You get a distress call... clearly a camera is being used, and yet after that, not one camera is seen or heard of afterward. That cameraman had the one camera in all of existence and he let it get asploded...

IDK on what Kool-Aid you are, dude, but I never said Cerberus was part of the Alliance military.

On-topic, @OP.

It's not that the entire series is a plot hole. On the contrary, I think that ME3 will subvert some of the hollowness story has got as of now.

But the cornball-ish console-oriented "let's make it a comic book for 12-year-olds so that we could later shoot a Spiderman-esque family movie" approach, the "listenning to the fans" and the EA's deadlines all cause the plothole pestilence in the new material and its not fitting with the main story material that had been written in stone even before ME1.

It's not all that unrealistic. The Council's indifference reminds me of the UN and how it refuses to acknowledge certain threats, either by design or because of stupidity. Probably both.

Yes it is. So what?

Look, what I'm hinting at here is that you need to first learn the difference between "the Alliance" and "the Alliance military", and only then make snarky comments about other people's opinions. ;)

True, but problem with that is that I believe the Council would have direct correspondence with all Spectres and unify them as a task force to do all that is possible against the impending odds.

Not to mention that  it should be pretty obvious that it's not geth, as all geth share some similarities and it should have been more than obvious after studying the remain, that the ship is FAR more advanced than anytihng the geth ever demonstrated, and it has different design and tech.

The nwe have the whole Ilos thing...the VI interfact? The prothean hybernation tubes? Waht, I know the VI lost power, but since when does loosing power destroy a a computer? Dont' tell me one can't recover any data from the hardware at all?

namely, that nobody except a few Jews believes that the Holocaust is happening.
the Allies have aerial photographs of concentration camps and they are so utterly dumb that they consider them to be unimportant? What...are they just ignoring what's on the pictures? People are being worked to death in these camps. That shouldn't be hard to figure out.

they also have the reports of inmates and former inmates, of guys like Jan Karski and Witold Pitecki. I know eyewitness reports are unreliable, but there are lots of eyewitnesses, and they're all saying the same thing. The Allies can't really believe this is all Polish government-in-exile propaganda!

and think of the things that have already been done to Jews in Germany, like Kristallnacht and the Madagascar Plan. Sure, it's a step from overpublicized violence and forced resettlement to shooting and gassing everybody, but it still shows the Hitlerites' intentions, right? That's the perfect proof of the Holocaust right there!

Which explains why they deny it to Shepard's face in the privacy of the ambassador/councilor quarters, over channels that are surely secured.

/sarcasm

It's not a plot hole though. It's just more bad writing. Bioware wanted the player to feel cut-off from their allies in ME2, to make it more grimdark. So they passed the Council the idiot ball and rolled back all the progress players could have made with them in ME1.

All you do is **** about what bioware does. I have yet to see you make a positive comment. So my question is, Why are you even here?

Actually, Marshalleck is one of our more evenminded Bioware cynics/critics. He balances out the more... rabid fanbase on the BSN. Either way, he generally has a more balanced perspective compare to other people that dislike ME2 so whenever he actually compliments Bioware, you know he's genuine and not exaggerating. :P

That's a considerable compliment, thank you.

TexasToast, I've had plenty of nice things to say when Bioware do good work. You'll see me gushing with praise in any thread related to the art, sound, and music of Mass Effect. Bioware have phenomenal talent in these areas. Especially their audio engineers, who I think receive far less credit than they deserve.

As for why I'm here and why I grill Bioware, it's because I want Mass Effect to be as good what I think they're capable of. I hold them to a high standard because of the high standards set by their past games.

Well, Cerberus is definately not a civilian operation, which basically means its mililtary.
Besides, while some of your theories are on the tinfiol hat side of things, they are remarkably lucid and well thought out, unlike some of the other conspiracy theories that get bandied about. ;)

I don't know about that.  The designation "paramilitary" exists for a reason, and most civilian intelligence services for major powers have historically had paramilitary arms.

Evidently, the only time someone records anything is when the plot demands it.

So, your argument that they have cameras on their suit is... because you said they should? Do you know how the suits work? Do you know if there is even enough power supply left after running everything else to power a camera? Can you give one piece of evidence that there are camera's attached to their suits other than you just think it makes sense?

If there was something, a codex entry, or a cut scene or anything that talks about an on suit camera, I would give it to you, but here isn't. Using your logic, I can solve the whole Shepard falling to the planet and not splatting problem. The suit has parachutes built in! It makes sense, considering it is the future and there is a chance he could be knocked out of a ship, or it would make it much easier to drop troops onto the field.

Sadly, however, there is not one shred of evidence to support this theory. Therefore, I can't say it's a plot hole that no one every busted out a parachute in the game.

As for the last part... should we have recording that the plot did not demand? The plot dictates most events in a game. A recording that a plot did not dictate would be a home videos of the turain councilor at Christmas. Is that what you wanted to see?

Camers and recording devices are shown to exist. We seen omni-tool used to scan, heal and even record things..
IIRC, we even seen helmet cams, something that's not uncommon even today, let alone with future tech where they have collapsable guns and armor.

While it's true you don't know how to work it to, to tell you that it is alien, but that also doesn't mean it is a reaper, it could be just as easy to believe it's another unencountered species.

Whilst they did design the Geth and are the galaxy's foremost experts, it doesn't mean they know how their evoloution and design have progressed.  Yes there are geth ships, but they to me look like giant ants, and Sovy looks like another giant insect.

It also depends on what parts of Sovy they have, and no one, includeing us the gamer, have any idea what the complete insides of a reaper look like, and we don't know if they are designed the same way, with the same things in the same place.
