He might look tough, but James Vega doesn't work for me as a new character.

I'm sure he will be a great character to fight along side,. (Image in link below)

Ok, so you've seen the image now; How stereotypical do you feel the brute soldier is in the media and in action games?

Do you think this character will need good voice acting to bring it to life, might it not be too easy to make a bland character?

I feel there are better soldiers we could have played alongside;

Kurt Russell - a solider we the audience emphathise towards due to the way he was harshly treated.

Sean Pertwee - a no nonsense reliable squadie (like Garrus), not a complex man but one the audience likes.

It might seem controversial, but it would have been an editorial change from the muscular bullet spitting marine stereotype.

Or did you just want a 'terminator' with a German accent?

Thoughts anyone?

What the hell is wrong with you people, we never even HEARD him talk once and you all hate him?!

Wait and see before shooting him down like that!

I never understood the "wait and see" approach. Then if something is ****ed up there's nothing that can be done to change it.

And yeah Vega looks like every generic "bad-ass, awesome" cliche character out there. Not surprising considering Cerberus is teh EVILLL again.

He's just a weightlighting bullet spitting Marine, what's new about this character; what isn't cliched?

How many films involve such characters, and how long will it take to stop caring about James Vega's welfare when playing ME3.

We know nothing about him other than how he looks.

So how is he unremarkable and highly cliched? Or are just basing your insightful opinion on his looks?

:)

Well of course, Bioware did say they were having Bi crew members.

Seriously speaking though I detest the way James looks, he looks too over the top and experienced for someone who is supposed to represent someone who knows nothing about ME universe.

Wow, BSN. I never thought you could be so shallow and judging after demanding interesting characters from BioWare, and yet, here we are.

Since you are in the business of predicting the future, can you tell me what stocks I should be buying?

Oh guys, here is your challenge. In 1 minute design a character for ME3 which breaks cliche and is interesting and different from the history of action film/games. It's not hard.

I don't think he looks experienced. We had rookies in army looking like him. So it still fits. And we need to see him in motion to make judgement on the character.

And looking like genric character is interesting character trait. Would it be better if everyone looked like from japanese anime. Hair colors being from rainbow and wearing really over the top outfits?

No.

Pretty much every character archetype has been created, at this point ANY character that anybody comes up with ever will have at least one or two cliches.

I am a fan of anime so I'd be down for that in a game where it would fit (This obviously is not the case in Mass Effect.)

I have nothing wrong with generic looking characters, my problem is that I am not a fan of the over-the-top muscle man character which screenshots make James out to be.

You're right, he's a huge cliche. He's a dumb brute who likes killing things and constantly uses bro-talk and...oh wait, we haven't heard him speak. Or heard anything about his personality. Actually, we known very little about him at all.

So his appearance is stereotypical and unremarkable to you; that's fine. But honestly, I find it all kind of amusing since on the outside Bioware characters tend to be pretty stereotypical anyway.

Fair enough. Image IPB

And yeah, agreed that every character is a cliche and has been created before. We humans have poor imagination like that. We borrow subconciously ideas.

To be honest, I never really hated any of the characters in ME games. Some may have been bit bland, but it didn't bother me, because that is how it is in real life too. It makes the ME universe more "real". It would just make the world even less immersive if every character would be super interesting.

I just feel its just racial hate cause he seems brazilian/colombian or any other place from the Hispanic race. He got the hispanic look and his last name seems hispanic, so yeah. Personally I love how they keep adding more humans from different races. We already had white (alot) black, Asian, and Arab so its good to see the Hispanic at last. The ONLY thing i dont like its that this one looks like he is going to brake in half and wont be as straight as he should be, which personally i find it disturbing if he hint things at my shepard, he better keep it to himself or others.

So by your logic, every muscle-bound, tight shirted, well groomed guy on Jersey Shore is a mincing ****** with a squeaky voice?
I suppose it gives another meaning to the term "Sticky Situation".

Miranda Lawson certainly doesn't break new ground with her depiction of feminism, or clothing.

Boss: "What do men like?"
Designer: "Guns and Boobs"
Boss: "Yeah guns and books"
Designer: "Ah, how about this for a character boss?" (See Image)

And yet, if he had horns, feathers, or mandibles, I'm sure we'd be seeing the opposite reaction. Give humans a chance.

Weren't Kaidan and Williams both hispanic? Atleast they seemed  to be. But hey, I hope Vega will have spanish accent or something. Would be good!

I don't feel race/ nationality has anything to do with my interpretation of this new ME3 character, for me his likeness to Duke Nukem, The Terminator and Dolf Lundgren is just character simplification and standard action cliche.
