My thread on the Steam forums, unsolved and condensed:

Ok. My native desktop resolution is 1680x1050, which has an aspect ratio of 1.6. If I choose an in-game resolution which is 1.6 (i.e. 1280x800), the game displays black bars at the top and bottom. To get rid of the black bars and have the game use my whole display, I have to use a resolution with a display ratio of 1.33333 (i.e. 1400x1050). However, this leaves the display with a squished appearance, where everything is wider than it's supposed to be. ... Actually, the display is squished no matter what resolution I use, it's a matter of whether or not it uses the whole screen.

I've been playing the game in 1400x1050, but it'd be great if I could get the game to look like it's supposed to. I've googled around and found no answers, so I came here.  I'm running a 560 Ti with the newest drivers, Win7 64bit.

My bottom three selectable in-game resolutions are, from the bottom up:

1600x1200
1400x1050
1366x768

They get smaller from there. The highest resolution which is 1.6 is 1280x800, which should cause it to display properly, but it doesn't; there are black bars at the top and bottom, and the display is "squished". 1280x800 should be the same as 1680x1050 (except things being larger, less resolution, etc., of course).

Halp?

Your card should have some Display Scaling options which are supposed to get rid of the black bars.

It's not a matter of scaling. If I select 1280x800, there are still black bars, even though it's the same aspect ratio as my desktop.

If I enter Windowed mode, it fixes the distortion problem, except that I'm then playing in a Window which won't maximize to the whole screen. The 1680x1050 resolution isn't even an option.

I guess the real question is, "Why aren't you using 1680 x 1050?"

These people said it works:  old forum post

You might have to make the entries by hand;  see here:  Tweak Guide

... but again, these guys say you can alter the settings in game (be sure to click the +s to see the pictures):  Widescreengamingforum

I don't know what else to tell you.
