Meredith: How well did you guard your own mother? Did she not die at a blood mage's hands?
Hawke: How well did YOU, the Knight-Commander of the templar order, guard MY mother? What the **** were you and your templars doing all that time when a certain killer blood mage was killing all those women!? Oh yeah, YOU, the Knight-Commander, actually ordered the templar Emeric to cease his investigation on that matter! YOU ordered him to stop looking for a killer blood mage! The deaths of all those women are on YOUR hands as well! Do you realize yet that you as a templar FAILED at the purpose for your very existence!? Whereas I, a simple nobody, had to do YOUR JOB and kill that blood mage MYSELF? Tell me, Knight-Commander, are you a coward or are you just incompetent? Or both? You failed my mother and my family, completely and utterly.
Brilliant, very well done!
Some more ideas:
(If Hawke lets Anders walk free after destroying the Chantry)
Sebastian: No! You cannot let this abomination walk free. He dies, or I am returning to Starkhaven. And I will bring such an army with me on my return that there'll be nothing left of Kirkwall for these maleficarum to rule!
Hawke: Listen to yourself, Sebastian. You're a brother of the Chantry and a good man besides. Do you really want to do this? Do you honestly think this is what Elthina would have wanted?
Sebastian: Do not speak her name, Hawke! Elthina was a good woman, yet you never found it in your heart to side with her. And now you're letting this monster roam free? Did she mean nothing to you?
Hawke: I may have disagreed with her on many issues, Sebastian, but I knew enough about her to know that she wouldn't want you bringing ruin to all of Kirkwall for the actions of one man. Whatever Anders did, the people shouldn't have to suffer for it. I'm not letting him go free because I thought what he did was right. I'm doing it because I refuse to make a martyr out of him.
Sebastian: But Elthina needs justice! The Chantry and all those poor souls within need justice! Who are you to deny it to them?
Hawke: Someone who understands that blood for blood has to end someday. Anders did something monstrous, Sebastian, something heinous. Let him live. Let him live to listen as every voice in Thedas declares him a murderer. Let him live to see mages and mundanes alike turn against him. Let him live to be hounded, to be hated, to feel the guilt and shame of what he's done for the rest of his days. Let him live so that he might one day, if he's man enough, try and repair some of the damage he's caused and the wounds he's inflicted. You want to punish him? Let him live.
Sebastian: No! I won't let him leave here alive!
(Sebastian draws his bow at this point, aiming for Anders, but Hawke steps between them without flinching)
Hawke: You want to kill him, Sebastian? Then, by all means, fire. Take your revenge right here and now; slay the one person who believed in you just to kill a man who isn't going to bother to fight back! Listen, Sebastian, Kirkwall is in danger. The templars are going to butcher the entire Circle and they don't care if they have to burn down the entire city and everyone in it to do so. Either strike me down, here and now, or get out of my way, because I don't have time to spare for your crap!
(After a moment's indecision, Sebastian lowers his bow)
Sebastian: Damn you, Hawke.
Hawke: Get out of here, Anders, and don't let me see your face again, or the gloves come off.
(Hawke confronting Cullen during the events of the Last Straw)
Cullen: Champion! In the name of the Maker, stand down! I have no wish to fight you.
Hawke: Of course, not, Cullen,
you'd lose. You and your little band of fascists in plate mail are courageous enough when cutting down some scared kids who can't fight back, but against a real threat, that's when you falter. Isn't that what happened in Kinloch Hold? You pissed your robes and had to wait for the Warden to save your collective rears.
Cullen: We are following the dictates of the law, Champion. It is not my place to decide whether the orders of Meredith and the Order are correct. I am a templar, it is my role to obey.
Hawke: You're a dog, a coward, someone too frightened to think for themselves or examine their actions. You've killed
children, Cullen. Don't you see that this is wrong?
Cullen: I have my duty, Champion. It would even compel me to fight you, if you do not turn back. Please, I have nothing but respect for you, but the knight-commander has made it clear. The Rite of Annulment must be carried out, but there is nothing to say that you must join them.
Hawke: My conscience says so, Cullen. It's a pity you've forgotten what that is.
(Hawke talking to Master Ilen during the ACT I Herbalist's Tasks quest)
Ilen: I've never met a shem who can bend ironbark to his will. Besides, we have been forbidden from going to the area after losing several of our hunters.
Hawke: What happened? Maybe I can help?
Ilen: I find it insulting you believe you can do what our hunters could not! Here's the location, do with it what you will.
Hawke: I'm sorry, I was only trying to help.
Ilen: The Dalish have had enough of shemlen help to last us an eternity, but there are plenty amongst us who will abandon their people for a life as your pets. Isn't that right, Merrill?
Hawke: Ah, condesencion, xenophobia and barely restrained contempt. Thanks for keeping the good name of the Dalish alive, Master Ilen.
Ilen: Excuse me?
Hawke: First, my offer of assistance was genuine. There are many threats across Thedas that affect all of us, humans and Dalish alike, and no one deserves to have their lives cut short like that. I was trying to help, and there was no reason to bite my head off. Secondly, Merrill remains devoted to her people, and is one of the most compassionate and caring people I've met, Dalish or otherwise. If our roles were reversed, I wouldn't give you haughty, insular fools the time of day, but Merrill is a far better person than I am. You will respect her or I will plant my boot up your ass. Third, if this is the way you treat all outsiders, then it's a wonder that the Dalish have survived for so long. Good day.
