Yeah, but you only get 5 gold for Fenris, and I don't think you get anything cool for isabella, other then making the Qunari go away. I was thinking more substantial, useful rewards. You get zilch for trying to shop Anders.

You can get nifty bonuses for allowing Torpor to possess Feynriel.

"Anders dosen't deserve death. Make him tranquil. Don't even tell people that it was he who destroyed the Chantry. Don't let him become martyr, or a hero. Don't let him become anything. Make him a pathtic, emotionless wreck who nobody will even remember"

The opportunity, if I wished, to sell out or betray my companions for fun and signifgant profit.

Actually, you can do that to all of them. Fenris and Isabela are obvious, then there's betraying Merrill by not giving her the arulin'holm, and trying to sell out Anders... I guess Varric is immune.

Yeah I had a mental picture of my douchebag Hawke looking at the gold and going "are you ****ting me?" <_< before killing Danarius for the insult.

Alas, no one has time to perform the Rite at this point, so 'tis impossible. He wouldn't let it happen anyway.

Orsino: Meredith expects blood magic? Then I will give it to her. Maker help us all.
Hawke: Blood magic? *facepalm* Orsino, all you're doing is giving Meredith another excuse to kill all mages, not that she really cares for one. And giving mages a bad impression. And most importantly, you're giving me a stupid boss fight.

yeah, which is I end up just killing Danarius. I mean, the lyrium tattoos on Fenris have to be worth 10 times that. If you're gonna give me the option to be a completly treacherous douchebag, at least make it well worth my while! Hell, when I tried to shop Anders, you'd think I'd at least get a little bit of pocket money for being a stool pigeon!

@Xithria: fenriyel isn't a companion, though. There's certainly opportunities to betray or sell people out in Kirkwall, but nothing for your companions. At least anything that gives you definite benefits.

An option to kill Sebastian when he threatens to take revenge on Kirkwall.
Most Hawkes have been fighting to save Kirkwall this entire time. Why does Sebastian suddenly get a pass when he threatens razing the city?

Probably because he has no allies, army, or political influence and is generally a self-rightous and extremely irritating ponce. How he plans to retake starkhaven and have enough resources left to invade Kirkwall is beyond me.

Besides, it's always fun to tear Byronic "heroes" a new one.

What about Fenris is Byronic?  And which Byronic hero does he resemble?  Childe Harold?  Don Juan?  Byronic heroes aren't just one-dimensional, brooding bad boys.  They've got to have enough psychological depth and nuance to be authentically conflicted and to direct their critique inward as well as outward.  Their self-hatred should stem, at least in part, from the decadence and ennui that attends their birth into privelege and comfort.  And if there's one thing that no Byronic hero could be, it's illiterate.

When Anders is talking about how bad things are for the Mages

GoodyHawke:
Anders you have to stay calm; there is a peaceful solution to all of this we just need to get everyone on the same page.

Varric: My friend it would be nothing short of a miracle if you could even get them to read the same book.

Hawke:
Not helping Varric.

  • Meredith: I could not stay my hand if I wanted too. The people will demand blood.
  • Hawke: Bull****. The people aren't bloodthirsty savages. They will want justice done yes, but they will want it done to the person who actually committed the deed. And that's Anders. This is something you can't even realize in all of your incompetent stupidity.
  • Meredith: They will despise the mages for what happened here, and no matter what I could not stop them.
  • Hawke: No! They may dislike magic even more, and this certainly won't help the relations between the mages and the populus, but they will not call for the culling of all mages in the Gallows! It doesn't work like that! *sighs* Meredith, it's night right now. Almost all of Kirkwall was asleep when the Chantry blew up, and all they'll see is a pillar of smoke where the Chantry was. They won't have any idea what happened, and their first idea of what may have happened when they do find out the Chantry exploded is that the Qunari may have been involved. Considering they sent envoys here, they might just think that. Hell they may even think Anders is working with the Qunari!
  • Anders: I'd never work with them.
  • Meredith: Were they to believe that, then I would tell them the truth. That it was your apostate friend's actions that killed my friend Elthina and all the other Chantry people.
  • Hawke: Ah so you admit that it was Anders' actions and his alone! Good, we're getting somewhere.
  • Meredith: I have never denied that. But an angry mob would then rise up, and I would be forced to comply.
  • Hawke: That's your entire argument. The people will demand blood. It's hardly a good argument. Let me tell you a story Meredith.
  • Varric: Ah, Hawke's first story. I'm so proud of him. He's come a long way.
  • Isabela: Hopefully it'll have some raunchy bits.
  • Hawke: It's not that type of story. I have to be serious right now. Anyway, a few years ago there was a riot in Amaranthine's arling. Right outside of Vigil's Keep.
  • Anders: I remember this incident.
  • Justice: As do I.
  • Hawke: Indeed, this was during the Hero of Ferelden's time. He was the Warden Commander and effectively the Arl of Amaranthine. The rioters were starving. They were demanding food, and were threatening to fight the soldiers and the Hero of Ferelden just to get food. The soldiers were unsure of what to do. Do they cater to the demands of the mob or put them down?
  • Meredith: Is this going somewhere?
  • Hawke: Shut up and listen. The people were growing violent, and the Warden Commander saw one way to end this riot without bloodshed and without catering to their whims. Anders and Justice, do you want to take it from here?
  • Anders/Justice: He intimidated them. He said he had killed Darkspawn by the score -- along with demons, dragons, and bandits -- and that a few commoners was nothing. They would die and their families would suffer for it. The rioters eventually became scared and left peacefully without receiving any food.
  • Meredith: And your point is?
  • Orsino: The point is this, "Knight Commander". The mob doesn't dictate your actions. You dictate the mob's actions. If you give them what they want, then they will grow bolder and bolder. You have the Templars and the City Guard to use to keep order should a mob arise, but you would rather kill all of the mages because you paint us all with the same brush rather than do your job. Your trauma and personal bias are why you're doing this.
  • Hawke: Exactly so.
  • Aveline: They're right. Donnic and the Guard are keeping the people from doing anything rash as we speak.
  • Meredith: This is getting us nowhere. Go, rally your people.
  • *Mages go with Orsino, Templars with Meredith.
  • Orsino: Thank you Champion. I'm sorry she couldn't see reason.
  • Hawke: She's a ****ing moron. But don't worry, we'll get out of this. No stupid stunts okay?
  • Orsino: I promise you I won't do anything stupid. But, incase I don't make it out of this alive, I need to confess something. I... knew about Quentin. Rather, I actually knew him.
  • Hawke: I figured as much.
  • Orsino: Believe me Champion, all I did was support his research into the ideas of necromancy and blood magic. But when I found out he was murdering people for his own twisted reasons, I didn't know what to do. I figured if I had come forward Meredith would've called for the Right of Annulment then and there because I knew about him.
  • Merrill: You poor man.
  • Orsino: I suppose it doesn't matter now. Meredith got her wish. Quentin eventually sent me one last package. A thoroughly detailed report on a ritual to create a construct of flesh. When I read it, I was horrified and I couldn't believe what I had seen. So I kept reading it. And it was the same thing. These are the moments where I curse my gifted memory, for all I want to do is forget about that report. Champion, if we do make it out of this, you can kill me if you wish.
  • Fenris: I say you kill him Hawke. He is a blood mage, and must be killed.
  • Merrill: So all blood mages are evil now?
  • Fenris: Given time, they will become such. Even you.
  • Hawke: Fenris, shut up before I slam my fist in your mouth. Merrill's the sweetest mage around and the woman I love, and she was there for you when you felt like you were alone when we found your sister. She considers you a friend, and yet you can't consider her such because of your own sob story. Yes, it's horrible what Danarius and whats-her-name did to you. But that was in Tevinter where the mages are all pricks. This! Is! Kirkwall! Now I consider you a really good friend, but either you get rid of that bias against all mages or you can go kill yourself.
  • Fenris: ..... you may be right about the Tevinter mages, Hawke.
  • Hawke: Anyway, I won't kill you First Enchanter. I didn't kill Gascard DuPuis when I found out he knew about Quentin. It wouldn't change anything. My mother would still be dead. Just promise me you will never use that ritual again, and you will only use blood magic for good purposes, if at all.
  • Orsino: Thank you, Champion. I will try.
  • Hawke: Then that will have to be enough for now. Now, let's go kill an insane Knight Commander and save the mages!
  • Justice: Finally! A chance to be righteous!

"What's the going rate for an Antivan Crow? Got some people I'd rather not have to deal with."

Might be nice to see them get something right for a change, too. For all the guff about how fearsome they are all I've seen them do so far is either ask me for help to die by my hand. The most impressive thing they've done is steal a sword I gave to Oghren...

You beat me to it!  Posted Image

I would have loved to make Anders tranquil, strip him of his armour and weapons, then wrap him up and present him as a life-long slave to Meredith.

When Sebastian says he will not fight you Hawke - but will return with an army to level Kirkwall.

Id love a response "You havent been able to take it back it 10 years and couldnt even exact revenge on the villians responsible for your families deaths - you needed me to do that,no Sebastian i am afraid you are not going anywhere and you will fight me!"

Hawke goes law abiding citizen on Sebastian.

Hawke: So Anders you really thought blowing up the Chantry was the best option?

Anders: Yes by removing Elthina I eliminated the illusion of a possible compromise.

Hawke: I see, and the thought of waiting til the middle of the night when most of the Templars are sleeping in their barracks at the Gallows and blowing up the bomb there was thrown out because..."

Anders: Well then mages would have been killed in the explosion.

Hawke: Yes where as now they get a much slower and more painful death at the end of a Templar's sword.

Anders: Well when you say it like that-"

Hawke: In fact why blow up anything? Why not just wait til Meredith is out in an open area, rush in, and kill her? Then you can run back and we all gang up on her cronies who will no doubt be trying to kill you.

Anders: It seemed like a good idea at the time?

Hawke: You're an idiot, but Maker help me you're my idiot.

Meredith: "Bethany is an exemplary mage but the people may turn on her if these blood mages do harm in the city, so you need to hunt them down for me" (I'm paraphrasing a little here)
Hawke: "So you admit that Bethany who has lived all her life up until 3 years ago as an apostate and was raised and taught by an apostate is an exemplary mage, yet these blood mages have spent much of their lives in the Circle, and their most recent years in the Kirkwall Circle under the strict supervision of the Templars are clearly not. Doesn't that tell you something?"

I would also like someone in game to point out that almost from day one, the Chantry has not followed the teaching of the Chant of Light with respect to its moral imperatives - in particular taking to task the secular seat of its power in Orlais in the treatment of elves, peasantry, etc - and that it specifically states that magic is a gift of the Maker, so mages are blessed not cursed - only those who misuse this gift are.

I think the problem with this thread is that people are completely ignoring characterization in their haste to condemn their disliked characters so their author-avatar Hawke can "out logic" them with words. It just...no.

And I think your problem is that you haven't even bothered to read the entire thread, if you did then you would see that the majority of the posters have not ignored the characterization. And that they have actually kept them in character. But in your haste to blindly defend Bioware while thinking they are perfect you missed this. "It just...no."
