I did not see it as insensitive. He was saying you were lucky to have someone who cared for you. That he envy's you for it. To cherish what you had.

That's how I took it too, but it CAN come accross as insensitive since he shifts the focus from Hawke's emotions to that of others (and himself).

yeah i didn't see him as coming across as insensitive. But he apparently brings up the tranquil solution if you pick a specific dialogue option?

Well, you lost the battle. So what you wanted to do with the Templars after the battle is pretty irrelevant.

edit: you could have been allowed to throw your life away, I guess.

Huh? I lost the battle? Maybe I should replay DA 2 ending, but IIRC Hawk and companions were moving through Gallows killing templars and demons alike and then they killed Meredith with a little help from Cullen. So i have no idea what are you talking about.
Throw my life away? Nope, you are wrong. First there were not so many templars in that room. Second, my Hawk had all his possible companions wih him, even Anders and Fenris. I am fairy sure we could take them down. Alas, no  such option.

Hawke to Flemmeth: You know that cryptic thing you're doing with the double speak and the metaphors? Yeah that's not mysterious it's just annoying.

I read that too, but I can't find it now. I got the impression that it was just Anders reverting to his default dialogue for when you talk to him and he has no personal quest active. There are plenty of situations where doing that doesn't really make sense (particularly if it's someone who you're in a romantic relationship with) but that's not specific to Anders.

Sebastian: Anders has destroyed the chantry and killed the grand cleric, he must die! What say you Hawke?

Hawke: ...what the hell are you looking at me for? Who died and made me an officer of the law in Kirkwall. Far as I know, the title "champion" gives no legal authority to execute people without trial. And as for vengeance, I barely knew the woman. You want to kill the weirdo, that´s your buisiness not mine.

Lol, just finished the game and this was the conversation that got stuck in my mind. :P

Dragon Age: Origins
Grey Warden: "Wait, The Greu Wardens saved me from death to fight an ancient evil, so in thirty years I will have to die fighting an ancient evil or become the ancient evil.
Alistair: Hey, at least the joining did not involve three different colors.
Another conversation:
Grey Warden: So, basically you want me to seek revenge for the Grey Wardens who I just met, and pretty much have granted me a slow and painful death along with nightmares for the most of my life.
Alistair: But, Loghain betrayed us.
Grey Warden. "And what you did is not betrayal. (thinks: I am so going to betray you.) Hey, let me fight Loghain if the chance arises. I don't want anyone sparing him. (thinks: I am so going to spare him)
Dragon Age II
Hawke to Meredith and Isabella; Wait, you are both bi, but monogamous. Are you kidding me? Come on Isabella, you have threesome with the Warden. j/k

ALISTAIR: But I don't WANT to marry my half-brother's widow and become king!
THE WARDEN: Don't want to command the Grey, don't want to be king . . . next I suppose you're going to not want to fight the Archdemon.  Any other bags you want to leave me holding?

ANDERS: Do what you want with me.  I don't regret my actions.
HAWKE: I'm going to kill you.  It's going to hurt because you're a monster.  It's going to take a while because I'll have to listen to Fenris about this for years.

ALISTAIR: Joining the Grey Wardens is an honor, not a punishment!  I won't stand beside this traitor!
HAWKE: So that's what I get?  After all this?  After you've abdicated every single choice that the Grey Wardens need to make, after I've had to do your job these many months, now, NOW you have an opinion of your own?  Now you have a problem with something I do?  ::Cuffs Alistair:: Then leave!  Get out!  The Wardens need men of conviction, not milquetoasts!

I really don't like Alistair.  :D

Really? I would have never guessed. I like Alistair when he is being cute and awkward...less when he is being whiney because we aren't doing exactly what he wants....much much less when he walked off wearing some freakin' sweet gear.

I would like to say this to Sebastian;

"So you want Anders dead because he killed a lot of innocent people in the name of justice. And if I don't kill him, you are going to kill a lot of other innocent people so that you can get justice? Noone else sees the ironi? Really? Just me? Forget i said anything." *Hitting him over the head with the chant of light*

To Meredith in beginning of act 3

Meredith: How well did you guard your own mother?

Hawke: How well did you do your job, when you repremanded the templar who could have stopped it before several women where murdered? And how well did you do when you sent a letter of apology to his former apprentice? Perhaps it would be better for the city if you concentraited your efforts at finding actual maleficars instead of antagoinzing the circle?

Edit: typo

Uh thought of another one

"
Fenris: Is there something you want Anders?
Anders: You really don't have the temperament for a slave.
Fenris: Is that a compliment or an insult?
Anders: I just wondered how your old master didn't kill you.
Fenris: How is it that the templars havn't killed you?

Hawke: Wrong question fellows! You should be asking "How is it that Hawke havn't killed us yet?". One more brooding-exchange and i will show you why it's called "Tha Hanged Man". Muhahaha:D

Act 3:

Merrill: I don't know what to do now, Hawke. Keeper Marethari... she's dead.
Hawke: Well here's a start. *breaks mirror* From now on, I suggest you take the time to listen to people who know what they're talking about.
Merrill: But Hawke, our past -
Hawke: LISTENING. DO IT.

One thing that bugged me about Merrill's story is that you have to be mean to her and get to Max Rivalry to have that mirror broken, but if you want to be her friend you have to support her repairing the mirror that pretty much more or less doomed two elves she knew very well. Why couldn't a Hawke on either end have the dialogue option to convince Merrill to break the mirror, or an interrupt to do it themselves?

And for random banter:

Anders: I don't know what s/he sees in you.
Fenris: It is done, leave it be.
Anders: Oh, good. I always knew s/he had some sense -
Hawke: You do know I can hear what you're saying, right?
Anders: ...Um... Uuuuuh... Oh look, a cat! I'll just go pet it for a few minutes.

It bothered me a little that Hawke rarely responds to conversasions occurring right behind him / her.

Oh, gosh there is so much I wanted to say in the game and
never was able to say. Then when something popped up that I finally was able to
say it, click on it and then it comes out the complete opposite.

So here are some I wish were in the game.

(After coming out of the Cave for a New Path)

Merill: If I could have died instead……..

Hawke:  Really? How about I kill you now and save the world and myself the headache. <Stabs
Merill>

Varric: So you and whatshisname that Mage seem to be getting
pretty close. So tell me Hawke what’s going on?

Hawke: For starters, his name is Anders, not whatshisname.

(The Last Straw)

Hawke: I will not let them slaughter all of you.

Sebastian: But what of Anders? I swear to you, I will kill
him.

Hawke: Let me be clear here, I said “ALL” of them and if you
try to kill Anders, I will break you in half.

(During group banter in Act 3)

Sebastian: Its are duty to tell the Templars…

Fenris: Uh you want to turn them in, talk to Hawke

Hawke: Sebastian, you do realize I am a mage; secondly, Anders
and I are together. Talking about turning mages to the Templars especially my
life partner is going to result in your ass being kicked. So please feel free
to talk about it some more, I would be happy to kick your ass.

(Tevintar Chantry Amulet gift to Anders)

Anders: I appreciate the gift, perhaps one day I can return
one as meaningful.

Hawke: Oh, you can do that right now, you and I my bedroom
tonight. Unless you want to right now, there is a cot right there. Might be a
little uncomfortable but, I am not picky.

(I'll think of some more to add later)

I couldn't help but wish my aggressive, reaver-specced Fem Hawke could end a conversation quickly by beheading someone. Just once!

to Merideth: Rite of Anullment on the Mages? You DO realize my sister is in there right? and that if you lay a finger on her, your head will be an ornament on my front door? just thought I would point that out before you go all crazy and stuff and i have to put you down like a rabid Mabari.

I would have liked to see more range in the choices of dialogue. I found that it was love or hate, no friend middle ground.

Also, I did like the ambiguity portrayed in the characters and that should have been reflected more in the dialogue choices.

I can't think of anything more specific than what I previously posted. DA2 was either you treated your team like crap or you were flirting with them...there wasn't much in the way of middle ground beyond that.

A choice of remaining neutral on some issues would have been nice.

Way back in Act One:
"so Cullen lets cut a deal I give you an abomination and a maleficar and you leave my sister the hell alone what do you say?"

Act Two:
"Meredith where did you get that sword?"

Act Three
"No seriously, Meredith where did you get that sword?"
Or after Orsino says that it's not his fault
"No this isn't but the demons I have fought, the blood mages enslaving people on the street, my sister being held as a hostage, the open rebellion plotted in the Tower those are at least at much your fault as Meredith's. You have failed Orsino and the whole city is burning for your failure."

My Hawke cared about very little besides her sister, Varric and Isabella by the end.

Or when the Dalish are picking a fight with the Templar patrol "Are you completely insane? You're picking a fight with army when you've got maybe 2 dozen people who can hold a sword. Does your self pity interfere with your ability to count?"

 Hard to say. What about...

An option to punch every person in the game, preferably with a subsequent murder knife. Act 3 would be kittens a rainbows and bunnies and Hawke being convicted by people not currently existing in DA2, otherwise they would have been murder knifed somewhere in the game.

I would also like an option to murder knife particularly annoying characters (Anders, Petrice, Seb, Fenris etc.) the very moment we meet them.

Then, I would like the option force Cassandra to say "BULL****!" all the time, and if my punch and murder knife options weren't already in, the ability to out logic every person in the game. I can do it. Why not my Hawke?

/Sarcasm

Realisticly speaking, I want way to much to list of the top of my head.

Some more ideas:

As part of the opening confrontation in Act III:

Hawke: If it will keep the peace, I will step in. Orsino is right, it is not the role of the Templar Order to govern secular society.
Meredith: That's not going to happen.
Hawke: And why not? Who else has tried to look out for the people, and improve their quality of life? Who else has tried to hold things together when the pair of you seem intent on tearing this city apart? The Templar Order did nothing to try to bring an accord with the Qunari when they were here, and I certainly don't remember a mage of the Circle fighting the Arishok in single-combat. Aside from a few of my companions, I seem to be the only damned person in this city who isn't focused solely on their own self-interest. Why shouldn't I rule?

An alternative solution to the conflict with the Dalish in A New Path:

Ineria: I should've guessed you'd turn on her, you monster!
Hawke: That's enough.
Fenarel: Is it? Our Keeper lies dead, shem, and this traitor is covered in her blood! I don't think we've gone far enough!
Hawke: Do you know what my title is, Fenarel?
Fenarel: I fail to see what your fanciful title has to do with anything, shem, let alone Merrill's crimes!
Hawke: It's Champion, Fenarel, the Champion of Kirkwall. And how do you think I received such an honour, hmmm? Do you think I defeated the Arishok in a sewing contest? Bested him a poetry recital? I walked a road of fire and blood to get where I am now, and I have never backed down from a challenge. I've killed darkspawn and Qunari and criminals and demons and monsters, so don't think for an instant I won't hesitate to cut you down if you threaten Merrill.
Fenarel: You dare to threaten us, shem?
Hawke: I dare, and you know why? Because everyone Merrill has done has been for the sake of others. She joined my expedition to the Deep Roads because she knew she could help us, she has stood with me all these years and against all foes. Even her use of blood magic and her work with the Eluvian has been done in order to help the Dalish, and considering your paranoid and spiteful attitude towards her, Merrill must be a saint to ever want to sacrifice for the likes of you. She is my friend and the woman I love; she fights for me, and I fight for her. Any of this sinking in yet, or are you simply too stupid to heed the words of a shem?
Fenarel: But-
Hawke: Let us leave, and I swear to you, on my honour, you will never hear from Merrill or myself again. We will never approach the Sabrae clan again, and leave you to mourn and recover. But if you push this, then I'll drown you in your own blood without a second thought. What is your answer?
Fenarel: ...Leave, and never return.
