Of course, I'd also like the option to convert to the Qun and leave with them for an automatic game over. It'd be great :3 Without Hawke there, the Mage/Templar conflict would still have escalated, but Kirkwall would probably just have been burnt to the ground. As it deserves. The place is sick, warped by Corypheus and the deliberate design of the Magisters, and deserves to be wiped from the face of Thedas. It be an awesome import for DA3.

An alternative solution to the conflict with the Dalish in A New Path:
Ineria: I should've guessed you'd turn on her, you monster!
Hawke: That's enough.
Fenarel: Is it? Our Keeper lies dead, shem, and this traitor is covered in her blood! I don't think we've gone far enough!
Hawke: Do you know what my title is, Fenarel?
Fenarel: I fail to see what your fanciful title has to do with anything, shem, let alone Merrill's crimes!
Hawke: It's Champion, Fenarel, the Champion of Kirkwall. And how do you think I received such an honour, hmmm? Do you think I defeated the Arishok in a sewing contest? Bested him a poetry recital? I walked a road of fire and blood to get where I am now, and I have never backed down from a challenge. I've killed darkspawn and Qunari and criminals and demons and monsters, so don't think for an instant I won't hesitate to cut you down if you threaten Merrill.
Fenarel: You dare to threaten us, shem?
Hawke: I dare, and you know why? Because everyone Merrill has done has been for the sake of others. She joined my expedition to the Deep Roads because she knew she could help us, she has stood with me all these years and against all foes. Even her use of blood magic and her work with the Eluvian has been done in order to help the Dalish, and considering your paranoid and spiteful attitude towards her, Merrill must be a saint to ever want to sacrifice for the likes of you. She is my friend and the woman I love; she fights for me, and I fight for her. Any of this sinking in yet, or are you simply too stupid to heed the words of a shem?
Fenarel: But-
Hawke: Let us leave, and I swear to you, on my honour, you will never hear from Merrill or myself again. We will never approach the Sabrae clan again, and leave you to mourn and recover. But if you push this, then I'll drown you in your own blood without a second thought. What is your answer?
Fenarel: ...Leave, and never return.
I'm not even a Merrill-mancer (she's Hawke's sister-figure stand-in after Bethany's death in my games), and I love this. This is everything that I want to tell those jackholes when we step out of the cave.

Hawke: " Hey Anders come check this out!"
Anders: " What is it............(Hawke jams brand into his for head so hard it breaks his neck)....why are you looking at me like that Hawke?
This would take place before his unibomber inpression in act 3.

(To Meredith and Orsino at the beginning of Act 3)
Sarcastic Mage Hawke: Are you guys at it again, really? You are aware that by this point I have enough magical power to explode the whole city into a massive ball of fire, right? I think I'll just lock you two in a cage and see if your hatred is actually just extremely powerful sexual frustration.
Diplomatic Mage Hawke: Meredith, Orsino, this constant bickering is leading this city nowhere. We need peace, not conflict between mages and templars. If you refuse to stop argueing, I'll be forced to get the Grand Cleric to come in. And Meredith, don't even try to use the excuse that I'm protecting my own people.
Agressive Mage Hawke: *Looks at both Meredith and Orsino, and in a fit of annoyance unleashes a massive explosion, destroying most of Kirkwall in the process.*
Sarcastic Warrior/Rogue Hawke: Are you guys at it again, really? You are aware that by this point I'm strong enough to kill everyone in this city in a fight, at the same time? I think I'll just lock you two in a cage and see if your hatred is actually just extremely powerful sexual frustration.
Diplomatic Warrior/Rogue Hawke: Meredith, Orsino, this constant bickering is leading this city nowhere. We need peace, not conflict between mages and templars. If you refuse to stop argueing, I'll be forced to get the Grand Cleric to come in. And Meredith, don't even try to us the excuse that i'm soft on mages because of my family.
Agrressive Reaver Hawke: "Looks at both Meredith and Orsino, then in a fit of annoyance devours the souls out of everyone in Hightown."
Agressive Templar Hawke: "Looks at both Meredith and Orsino, then in a fit of annoyance smites all of Hightown.*\\
Agressive Berserker Hawke: *Looks at both Meredith and Orsino, then in a fit of annoyance unleahes his berserker fury and slaughters all of Hightown.*
Agressive Rogue Hawke: Oh, for f**cks sake, Meredith and Orsino, do you really want me to kill every rich f**cker in Hightown because of this s**t?

To be honest, I felt that Aveline's future needed to be addressed more in the "Side with the mages" path. Varric implies that she followed Hawke around, but I never felt that made sense. She's the Captain of the guard (or at least she was in my playthrough) and married (again in my playthrough). She's an important voice of reason in Kirkwall and is a lot more valuable in Kirkwall. I would have liked a brief scene before Varric's epilogue that reflected whether or not she really bolts with Hawke or if she stays behind to knock political heads together.
This. She would help restore order, even if the Templars tried to arrest her. The guard would support none other than her.
Actually, that reminds me of a post-game dialogue.
Foreign Templar: Wait, you let the Champion escape?
Cullen: Erm... Yes?
Foreign Templar: Why in Andraste's name would you do that! You outnumbered him 10 to 1!
Cullen: But he was at level 50!

It's a personal head canon of mine that Aveline, despite being like an older sister for Hawke, is the first to leave the group, because of both her commitment to the Kirkwall Guard and her husband, who is not going to leave his home in chaos.

Thanks to both of you, I definitely had a lot of fun with that. And yes, I would have killed to see something like that in DA2, if for no other reason to put the Dalish in their place (City Elf FTW)

Yeah, that does seem pretty reasonable. Alternatively, I could see her leading the guard back to Ferelden, to become a unit in the service of King Alistair. I think they're sufficiently bad-ass enough, and with the Orlesian revanchists breathing down their necks, Ferelden might need every skilled blade they can muster.
More ideas!
Leandra's response after Hawke offers Orana a job at the estate:
Leandra: I see we have a new servant around the house. Where did you find her, darling?
Hawke: Her name is Orana, she's a former Tevinter slave. I rescued her during that last jaunt I had with Fenris, and thought that we could help her. We can certainly afford to pay her a good salary, and without us, I don't think she'll last long in the outside world.
Leandra: Have I mentioned lately how proud of you I am lately? Too many others would take the opportunity to exploit her, but I'm glad to see that you're not letting your successes corrupt your sense of morality.
Hawke: Of course not, I had far too good parents for that.
A variation for On the Loose, when dealing with Huon
(Huon approaches a cloaked figure in the Alienage, expecting her to be Nyssa, but it turns out to be Hawke in disguise)
Hawke: If you're looking for your wife, then you should know that she's beyond your reach.
Huon: Where is she, shem?
Hawke: Safe, and somewhere you can't harm her. We've also made sure the entire Alienage population are safe within their homes, so you won't be able to threaten any of them. Did you honestly think we would be so stupid as to leave Nyssa alone and unguarded with an insane blood mage after her?
Huon: You've only delayed the inevitable. I will find her, and her blood will be the catalyst for the reawakening of our people.
Hawke: That's not going to happen. The Alienage folk have enough problems without having to deal with your madness, and they deserve far better than anything you can offer. This is your only chance to surrender. I don't want to kill you, Huon, but I will if I have to.
Huon: You're a fool to come alone against me, Champion. I command the very stuff of life itself!
Hawke: Who said anything about coming alone?
(Huon looks over at a nearby rooftop, just in time to witness Guardswoman Lia putting an arrow right through his face, killing him instantly).
Hawke: Nice shot, Guardswoman.
Lia: Thank you, Champion. If I may ask, did you really mean what you said? About the elves deserving better?
Hawke: Of course! After all, if a city elf could become the Hero of Ferelden, then you all should have the opportunity for greatness too.

I don't think Aveline would be welcome in Kirkwall, after having sided with those naughty rebel mages.
Oh I don't know. She can always argue that her duty as Guard Captain is to Kirkwall, not the circle, and that Meredith had unlawfully usurped the office of Viscount from it's proper heir (i.e. almost anyone but Meredith). Furthermore she can claim that she was actuing for the benefit of the Chantry because Meredith had attempted to enact the Rite of Annulment without the proper authority.

Well Orsino's dead, so it Meredith. Templars are dead, so are Circle Mages, some escaped. So in either case who won is a grey area. In either case the Kirkwall City Guard have no obligation to aid the Templars nor mages. The only obligation they have is to do their best to keep the peace of the city. In which case the Guards are well within their rights to attack either side so long they are disturbing the peace and placing the lives of the Citizens of Kirkwall in danger. Plus the only person who have seen Aveline supporting the mages might be Cullen, and since he too attacked Meredith, he'll understand the circumstances involved in her decision.

I'd like there to be more character developing dialogue in the sense of the NPCs figuring out what makes you tick.
I think that the DA 2 mood system really does a lot for that, DA 3 will probably have returning character explaining to the protagonist how mean or kind Hawke was.
But I'd like to also hear NPCs take a stand for the protagonist or the opposite for certain things in cutscenes/party banter like perhaps racism, warmongering or the opposite, of being too goody two-shoes and selfless to the point of being suicidal.
Which makes my character feel more real because then there's a connection between the companions, they have an opinion of you instead of just being your lackey.
I feel that would do so much more for the story and with that said, DA 3 is a game I can't wait to see improve so much on what DA 2 has introduced.
EDIT:
Woops! I forgot to add the quote I'd 've added in a certain scene in DA 2.

"You know of certainty and borders. You are closer to the Qunari than you admit. Your role would change little if you accepted the Qun."
Female Warrior Hawke: "Really? 'Cuz my buddy Sten from the last game says otherwise."
Either Mage Hawke: "WHAT?"
Either that guy's definition of "Role" is damn weird, even by Qunari standards, or whoever wrote that particular line of dialogue reeeally wasn't considering all of the possibilities.
