Nope, you're not the only one.

Personally, I'm hoping Legacy is something along the Mass Effect 2 LOtSB vein. That was the best example I've seen to-date of a satisfying DLC. And get this: it was made by BioWare.

I'm not certain what was objectionable about the first statement. Certainly, if what you're looking for is essentially another Origins, well, this is still the same game at the core. We're not removing the voiced protagonist, we're not slowing down combat animations, we're not returning to the old art style. So, yes, if what you're hoping is that this DLC turns DA2 into Origins, then you will be disappointed.

Hooray! :D

Well, let me clarify by saying that this is simply true of the DLC. I have no idea what our future plans are on the franchise, but anyone expecting a massive overhaul of these sorts of things in a DLC will be rather disappointed.

Guys, did nobody read this post? Of course this is still DA2. John Epler's comment is the first actual hint that maybe, just MAYBE DA3 will NOT be in the style of DA2. I don't get all the hate he's getting for it.

Poor Bioware ... first TW2 is released soon after DA2 to show us, how real RPG should look like

LMAO Funny joke. That was a joke right?

If only, if only. But it seems that even if the Dragon Age team drops the ball, the various ARPGs are there to pick it up again. Fortunately, even despite DA2 not being what people wished it was going to be, between Witcher 2, Human Revolution, and Skyrim this is likely still going to be a good year for RPGs. Plus, GOG.

The poster said TW2 is how real RPGs should be like. That means RPGs should have a forced gender with straight "romances", horrible combat system with unresponsive controlls, horrible voice acting, horrible facial expresions, and a inventory system that makes you want to rip your teeth out.

Half of what you just posted was opinion.  I don't disagree with some of what you posted, but he fact is TW2 is a superior game to DA2.

Fixed.

Also, romances? Romance =/= sex. Seriously, wtf BSN?

In past interviews, The Man Who Will Not Be Named and other DA2 developers have said they are happy with the direction the franchise has gone.  I'm not happy with the story at the end of DA2 or the gameplay.  So I, personally, have little hope for DA3.

Actually it isn't.  TW2 is a much better game than DA2.  It has a better, more mature story and choices that actually affect how the story progresses.  The inventory is kind of crap but so is DA2's.

Let's get off the side-topic of 'my opinion is more correct than yours' and back onto the main topic, how about. We have enough places where people can express their bafflement that others have different opinions than their own without this having to become one of them.

And that's your opinion.  I disagree.  I think DA2 is much better than TW2.

Again, TW2 is a superior game/RPG.  That is a fact, not conjecture.  Whether you "like" DA 2 better than it is your opinion. But I guess we have to drop this discussion.

So was Legacy DLC created by the same team who did Shadow Broker, or are they completely separate?

There's some overlap, but most of the work was done by the DA core team. That's not to say that the expertise the ME gained from Shadow Broker wasn't tapped, but most of the folks who worked on Shadow Broker are hard at work on ME3.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age have small 'core' teams of people in each department who are, essentially, the 'franchise experts'. The particular departments will grow and shrink according to the project needs across the company - so when Dragon Age 2 was in production, for example, Cinematic Design swelled to about 250% of its current size. When ME3 started ramping up, most of the Cinematic Designers moved over to Mass Effect, with a group of four people staying on board to handle DLC and any post-production work (hammering out a consistent style guide for future content, for example). That's not to say that some of those core people won't change projects if the need is great, but usually, DLC will be done by the 'core' group of the particular franchise.

I've always thought the DLC format seems a pretty neat way for developers to 'test the waters' and experiment with new ideas within the framework of what tools and restrictions they've already acquainted themselves with. Does this ring true to your experience?

P.S
Claiming something is unequivocally "better" than something else never seemed reasonable to me. Just wanted to squeeze that in there.

Can we get back to the part about Dragon Age 2 not being a sequel to origins? No one explained that part to me yet and I've been asking for months.

Also... im beginning to think Epler has been following me around in a black helicopter... with his finger hovering over the "BAN" button.

I don't think (WARNING: SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS AHEAD) there's anything inherently wrong with them experimenting with their formula. However, I really hope they realized the results of their experiment, and that the PR-speak is just PR-speak.

I second this motion, especially after the Devs kept reassuring us it had a lot of DAO in it and fans would recognise it. For them to then turn about and say 'nah it's not a squel, you just don't understand' and pretending not to understand why 'some people' are felt like they were cheated is very disingenuous.

I don't think DA2 was so much "experimenting" as it was" taking the old formula out behind the woodshed and shooting it."

More than that though, the statement doesn't even make sense.

And why is everyone so accepting of a plan that disregarded a core audience for the prospected interest of some phantom group of neo rpg'ers?

I feel like the guy from NETWORK here.....

You know when things are facts because someone posts "It is a fact that when someone says 'It is a fact that what I am saying is a fact'".

It is a fact that everyone who disagrees with me smells worse than those who agree with me.

It's even more true when someone says something is a 'scientific fact' because the truth of the statement is backed up by science.

It is a scientific fact that the people who agree with me have a refreshing minty scent.
