"Criticism" is not the end of the world, is not a personal attack on any of the actual persons involved, and doesn't exactly warrant the angry beehive response that's erupted here. This has been made into a bigger deal than it should be.Sialater wrote...
How hard is it to understand that you don't give "criticism" unless asked?

Actually, to be as active as it is, the femshep thread is one of the most civil on BSN
After browsing the femshep thread a few times, are you so sure that if someone were to post a constructive criticism about a certain Female Shepard's face, or to make a comment about how "photomanips" are a form of artistic plagiarism, do you think that would be taken well at all in the femshep thread?
But hey, I don't post there.
No... hate to say.. but it would quickly turn into a catfight.
The difference lies in caring about another's feelings. If that's there then there's no problem.
The lack there-of is an issue, yes.
CONSTRUCTIVE critisism is fine when asked for, sure.

How about you just don't give criticism unless asked and then you do it politely?

Okay enough derailment from me. I will say this though, I like both MShep and Femshep (prefer FemShep) and I'd like them to have separate threads because I find them to be very different. Putting them together detracts from both in my opinion.

With all due respect, Sialater, if you don't want criticism of a creation of yours, your best bet is to never post it online. You will *always* get that regardless of whether you ask for it or not. One has the right to post their creations as much as one has the right to comment on them.
@Ryzaki: I regret nothing!

I think that would be a more logical conclusion to make unless you, you know, don't give a toss about other people's feelings and just aim to misbehave.

I'll uh... not quote Ashley here.
Criticism has it's place. It's place isn't insults on a fanthread.

Two words: public forum. I feel that if you, or I, or anyone puts up a picture of their work, then they have opened themselves up to comments - that would include unasked for opinions, etc.

I've posted a few times about how I prefer Mark Meer's work in ME2 to Jennifer Hale's, but I felt the opposite in ME1. I'm not sure how that would make me part of some anti-Femshep bogeyman cult.
I'm postulating theories about what could make someone come out of nowhere with a pretty rude insult directed towards a specific poster's character, when said poster wasn't even part of the current discussion.
I am not aware of any anti-FemShep conspiracy. But I'm just wondering why you felt the need to be catty and obnoxious, Shorts, when you *knew* what kind of response you would get.

One can post constructive criticism about something and not intend to injure the feelings of the creator, nor to misbehave. That's the whole point of "constructive criticism."
I'm not sure how this is hard to understand.

Either way, when someone does say something you find offensive, but they didn't mean it too, and they try to apologize, yet you won't forgive them, does not help the situation either. <_<

Yes, as long as the person criticizing is civil and the person receiving criticism accepts that this is a public forum.

Unless you're the fan of said character and the only thread you're capable of posting about it is there. You're not a club, you don't decide who joins and says what about who. It's a public forum open to everybody and everybody has different opinions on different things, allowed to post.
If you don't want criticism on something, don't post it. It's not to "misbehave" or whatever.

So how were the insults directed at my Shepards and Chignon's remotely intended to "not injure the feelings of the creator?"
