It's not very hard. I'm male but I nearly always play femshep, you just have to stop thinking of Shepard as yourself, but a main protagonist in your personal epic scifi story.

That's exactly it. Playing the game as FemShep is like reading a novel with a strong female protagonist, or watching a movie or tv show with the same. Cordelia Naismith (later Vorkosigan), Honor Harrington, Susan Ivanova, Samantha Carter, etc.

Similar with a MaleShep. It's like watching/reading a story with Miles Vorkosigan, Aivars Terekhov, Jack O'Neill, John Sheridan, etc.

Edit: Hm. ToP Shep. Latest ones I've started playing.

Kaff Shepard.

Thought I'd post my custom Shepard in this thread. To show my "fanhood" to Commander Shepard

Thought he turned out decent. I didn't want him to look like a movie star or model. Tried to make him look distinct or unique I guess.

I have no idea. I got 10 MaleSheps and 10 FemSheps. People could argue Mark Meer seemed too plain in his dialogue in the first game. Having played the second and gone back, it does feel like the case. Meer though improved greatly in the second game and hopefully does even better in the third game.

I never used the default model before (until now). Already looks way better than my other 9 MaleSheps due to the speccing involved in using Mark Vanderloo's likeness to market the game. I wish I could spec all my other ones.

I do see that Meer was a little dull in the first one, but not enough to bug me and make me go anti-manShep. That is just absurd. :X

He is amazing however in the second one. There are many parts and dialogue that I think he does better than FemShep. He finally put the emotion into it.

From the demos on teh Third one, he sounds even better. I cannot wait.

And SAK did bring up a good point. Playing a FemShep because you think playing a MaleShep is "gay" then..er... how is being a FemShep romancing other men not gay? >_> I doubt you are all going single or going with Liara.

Is FemShep les in the ME1 and 2? I wouldn't know. Never played FemShep.

Male shepard voice acting was a bit bad in ME1, but its much better in ME2 and from what I've seen its even better in ME3. You should give it a chance.;)

Well I usually play as manshep myself. I don't consider playing as your own gender as gay(in most other games you don't have a choice but to play as a man). I play manshep because I find it easier to get myself into the game as a male character and I want to romance a female (specially Tali ).

But if you are male, play as female and romance men I think thats kind of gay.

I suspect we have differing perspectives on roleplaying games. For me it's not about an avatar of me running around the Mass Effect universe. My take on it is; I'm a member of the audience with some influence over Shepard's character, but I don't image myself to be Shepard or particularly identify with him. I'm a guy sat on a couch with a beer who enjoys blowing away mercenaries and Geth with a sniper rifle and wants the cutscenes in between (and the story) to be as interesting as possible.

For me, a strong female character, is much more interesting in those cutscenes than a fairly generic male hero.

Aliens would have worked, but not half so well if Ripley was played by Kurt Russell instead of Sigourney Weaver.

Very true. ;)

Though, I do like watching my husband play his maleShep.   So, I can't dismiss the Kurt Russels entirely.

I always found it easier when I get myself into the game. Its much easier to do when I play as a male(because I am one) and I feel weird when I play a female specially in a game like this. But I undestand your point of view. Everyone got their way of doing things ;)

Edit: We need more photos

Which Kurt Russell character? Snake Plissken or Jack Burton?

Shepard: I don't get it.
Sovereign: YOU WERE NOT PLACED IN THIS UNIVERSE TO "GET IT" COMMANDER SHEPARD.

Since this thread is for any Shepard, I added some discussion topics I'd like to discuss to the OP(should have done this when I made the thread.) Both male and female shepards share almost everything(except maybe romance partner), it is better to talk about shepard as one character. Male or female doesn't matter most of the time right?
