Just replayed my Renegade Vanguard, Evie:

Evie is why I love going Renegade, though.  She's an Earthborn, Ruthless, and she feels like the most misunderstood person in the galaxy.  It's really fun to RP a Shepard who takes all these Renegade options for the greater good, but people end up thinking she's a crazy racist with a pro-human agenda.

First off, I finally caught up with all 50 pages of this thread. While it had a rough start, it definitely was a fun read. I enjoyed seeing different perspectives on why people loved their Shepards/FemShep/Sheploos, particularly in the form of screenshot manips, wallpapers. and artwork.

This is my canon Shepard. A brief background on why I'm so fond of her. I used to play a lot of game where I only played as male characters because females were rarely an option. (Not complaining -- just saying that's how it was back then.) I *LOVED* Duke Nukem. I loved everything about his character -- the wisecracks, the unapologetic vices, and the way he shot down everything in his path. There are quite a few similarities between Duke Nukem and Mass Effect (the attitude problem, the nukage, the open appreciation of strippers/dancers, and so on) so Joan Shepard IS my female Duke Nukem in an era where playing as a female character is absolutely an option. (Whee!) ;)

Femsheps I usually have no problems with... they are not always conventionally pretty, but since its not usualy my goal, it all works out. I'm so jealous though of people who manage to make this great looking male Shepards. I've tried. god, have i tried... my shepard graveyard is full of headmorphs that I wasn't happy with. finally ended up .. "borrowing" couple of faces I liked from masseffectfaces website, just tweaked them a little. the only male Shepard of mine that I'm mostly happy with is Jean Luc, but I didn't try to make him handsome. I tried to make him resemble a certain awesome captain :P

Jean-Luc!
I so approve of this Shepard. Anyone ever did a Commander James T. Shepard?

I just went throught the 50 or so pages of this thread, and I just wanted to 'big up' a couple of the awesome Sheps I saw.

Excellent Shep. I'm guessing that's the AZN eye type, which I think is generally underused.

And a very distinctive Shep too. The problem with the character creator is that a lot of Sheps can look very similar - but that Shep is really distinctive. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her.

Completely opposite of the one above, but there's a roundness & 'cuteness' to this Shep that again sets her apart from other Sheps IMO. Though that may just be the lighting.

Loving all the Shep love in this thread.

So, I have a question:

Why is your Shepard Paragon or Renegade or the shades in between?

Meghan Shepard, growing up on Earth's streets, and then surviving Akuze learned that morality can sometimes only get you killed. Strategy will keep your butt in one piece. There are, however, more important things to live and fight for than causes or random faceless people. She's doing this for her friends and for her team. She's a bit to the middle of the scale, though.
Posted Image

Avery Shepard survived Mindoir and found her calling on Elysium. She is here to protect everyone she can at any cost to herself. I often jokingly call her Saint Avery.
Posted Image

Rachel Shepard is also an Earthborn Sole Survivor. But unlike Meghan, she's convinced that the weight of the galaxy is on her shoulders and she's the only one competent to deal with it. But she won't sacrifice everything to do it, there are prices that are far too high.

Heh, I feel the same.  I usually intend to try a Renegade or Renegon but I can never seem to sink below that purple line.

That actually brings up a good question: Do you essentially play as 'yourself' or do you roleplay Shepard as her/his own character?

When I first started playing I used to just do what I'd do in a situation (which was 99% paragon.)  I've since started seeing Shep as their own person, and I RP based on what I think their individual motivations would be based on their background.

Drea Shepard - Spacer, War Hero.  She's classic paragon, no serious history of trauma, so she's an optimist about the nature of the galaxy

Teagan Shepard - Earthborn, Sole Survivor - Mixed alignment.  She's a little cynical from growing up on earth, but at heart she's a survivor and wants to make the galaxy a better place. Sometimes she slides back into a more renegade mindset, the result of her childhood.

Caroline Shepard - Colonist, Ruthless - Renegade, mixed.  She's the most pragmatic of the three, has a very cynical view of the galaxy and thus feels like the ends justifies the means in a lot of situations.

I also started a 100% renegade for fun, because being a complete ass in bubblegum armor is HI-larious.

It's not so much as RP'ing them as myself, as I've yet to concieve of a Renegade Shepard that I could stick to.

ETA:  Also, that sounds funny as hell.

I like to play renegade because some of the snark flat out makes me laugh. I love good comebacks and witty retorts. Renegade can go too far in some situations (as can Paragon) so my game style is better defined as a renegon.

IF I were to make a Shepard that looked just liked me and I played with my personality, my paragon meter would probably be higher. Comes from being the oldest child and conditioned to set an example for siblings, playing on sports teams and brainwashed about good sportsmanship, blah blah blah. ;)

That's why I enjoy and prefer the escapism of renegade Shepard.

I normally play as renegon type of characters...which means I basically play a renegade type personality type of chanracter particularily when speaking with people( the counsill n illusive man) but I make paragon decisons at the big moments in the game for the most part. I also NEVER take the paragon interrupts and always do the renegade interrupts in ME 2( which btw you can gain of a ton of renegade points duing Mordin n Thane's quests). I am planning on playing a Paragade female( which would be the opposiite of me since I'm male n usually roll renegons)
in ME 1 n carrying her through to ME 2( once i get the pc version) as well...

edit: I also have 3 renegon characters for my PS3 version of ME 2 ready to imported into ME 3.

This is the ME 2- PS3 version of Jason Shepard.

I prefer the roleplay Shepard and have him be his own character instead of me just inserting myself.

As for my Shepard alligment. 70% paragon and 30% renegade.

Mostly paragon because my Shepard, despite being somewhat of a egocentric (in the start) jerk, is still a good guy. I add some renegade in order to avoid the Mary Sue-ness that comes with pure paragon amd because I feel some of the renegade actions makes for a better story and more sense. Althrough I also avoid too much renegade because I feel it ultimativly goes against the spirit of the story.

That is a bit difficult question. I put a bit of myself in every character but I'm not playing myself. I think my Sheps as her/his own character but I seem to be unable to give different roles to my characters and play accordingly.

I don't see how someone can RP Shepard as themselves more than once - as surely it would just be the same exact playthrough over and over again.

My first playthrough on ME1 & ME 2 was playing as Shep myself. Every subsequent playthrough was having him/her be their own character. This was much more fun, as I got to experience Mass Effect through someone else's eyes.
