It's a good way to show off our Sheps.
Those of you who role play your Shepards, what were your inspirations drawn from? Yourself? Other fictional characters?
I start with one or two defining traits for how I want to play. Something like paladin, nationalist, wirehead or something. Then I flavor with the origin story and turn them loose. As they go, they define themselves, becoming more real, making their own choices.
One character I have is a paladin/earthborn/warhero. Being the hero is what he is about. After Elysium, I totally see him doing a line of PSAs trying to help kids. "I'm Commander Shepard and I think School is Cool."

This is why he has a soft spot for Jack. He saved himself, now he wants to help her save herself.
Another character is built on survivor's guilt (Colonist/sole survivor). The dead weigh heavily on her mind. She is doing the job because it needs doing and it might as well be someone who should be dead, maybe she can save
someone. She was still standing at the end of the suicide mission though, no comfortable oblivion for her, but another few ghosts join her at her table when she is drinking alone in her cabin.
I find my own characters much more satisfying to play, as fun as it might be to see how Link Hogthrob might handle the reaper menace. It's a good feeling to see my creation take off in their own direction. Especially when they insist on doing what they want to do, not what I want them to do.
Edit for formating.
Is there a preview button I'm not seeing?
