I left this thread 2 hours ago fully expecting it to be locked because of several pages of spam, trolling, and ignorance, and I come back to find it not locked but only moved to the Characters subforum. Something is wrong here.

A woman who is confident, strong, and intelligent, often scares many men.

Did television tell you that?

No real life did, you should try it sometime lol

Oh sorry, it just sounded like a stupid stereotype often thown around by people, who just accept whatever they are being told by the media.

Personally, I don't think I would use the word 'scared' to describe it.  If he's relatively young and has been raised with modern ideals regarding gender equality, in my experience the man would probably be indifferent to the gender of a person showing such attributes.

If it's a man who honestly believes that men are superior to women (for any number of reasons), I've always seen anger and a certain determination to squash that woman down emerge as more common responses than fear.

I guess it could be interpreted in many different ways. What i wrote wasn't exactingly meaningful.  I was directing it mostly towards male chauvinists who still think a woman's place is in the home, or whatever. There are many of those still left in western society.

Hint: Being "nice" to a person just to get into their pants isn't actually nice. It's creepy, and people can and will pick up on your true motives and treat you like a creep. This is where self-proclaimed "nice guys" usually go wrong.

I don't think this is the place to discuss 'Nice Guy Syndrome', but being nice is rarely THE reason guys aren't taken seriously.

Or so you've been told, right? :wizard:

"Nice" is often the code used for "passive" among men. Many of these so-called nice guys have no social skills whatsoever, have no real awareness of how they are perceived by women, have poor hygiene and are in terrible physical condition, and think that just because they're not acting like caricatures of cave men, we women are supposed to fall all over ourselves congratulating them for how "evolved" they are, then sleep with them. I've seen many a bitter self-styled "nice" guy lament his poor track record with women, and I just look at the filthy apartment, the paunchy physique, the yellow teeth, the porn magazines peeking from under the couch cushions, the greasy hair and the empty beer bottles and think "yeah, it's because you're too nice that you have such bad luck with the ladies". :pinched:

I kind sat and boggled at the thread title a bit.

I'm not sure why the topic has to be brought up again. Don't get me wrong, I love my Femshep! I just think there needs to more emphasis on how the character of Shepard is whoever we like them to be, rather than a symbol of masculinity or femininity, or what have you.

To me, Shepard's gender is little more than a change of model, voice actor, and romance choices, because everything else is exactly the same.

This post inspired me to start putting my porn magazines under my bed and begin throwing away the whiskey bottles and beer cans. I am learning so much! Speak more of your wisdom holy  goddess! :wizard:

Eh,  I've always thought the nice guy thing was because most come off as so overly sacherine it has to be false, that, and they're total doormats.

:D It's simple really. You don't sell a house without cleaning it and staging it, so why would you try to woo a woman without cleaning and staging yourself? Best foot forward, and all that. :kissing:

Exactly, Shepard is a tool and an avatar that let's the player interact with the ME universe.
FemShep is not like Uhura on Star Trek. She was a real inspiration for women.

Uhura ftw. <3

I usually just put the damn thing on 40 degrees celcius, choose the gentle program, pour a cup of soap in there and hope for the best...

I'm a guy and I'm now a laundry-expert!

I'm not saying that wikis aren't a good source for game information, just that important facts like "You can choose your gender" should be found somewhere in a main site. Game trailers and reviews only give us very basic info to catch our attention. Many people will buy games from just that but the main site should expand on any trailers and reviews by providing other crucial info in order to sell the game. For female gamers(40% of gamers) who have thus far been excluded from marketing, this could be a major selling point. It is sad that crucial info like this can only be found in third party websites.

that 40% stastic is really really off.
that stat counts facebook games and iphone games and the like. i wouldnt qualify those as the more hardcore type games that mass effect falls under.

dont use faulty statstics to base your point, it generally undermines your argument more than it helps it. 40% is WAY off.

It's really not.

http://loosegarments...en-video-games/

http://www.womeningamesjobs.com/?p=268

http://loosegarments...ow-to-catch-on/

you missed my point.

in said statistics they count facebook games and bejeweled. a vast majority of female gamers stick to stuff like that. so no. 40% of hardcore gamers are not female, none of those links even suggest that. they give very vague evidence proving almost nothing, also most of those arent reliable sources and are extremely biased female gaming blogs. so uh, what did you hope to prove by this? to link a bunch of stuff and hope i wouldnt actually look?

im not saying females shouldnt play games, or shouldnt be into hardcore ones, its just a fact a majority of female gamers are strictly casual ones. thats all.

pretending like 40% of hardcore gamers are female is just laughable.

A vast majority of female gamers do NOT stick to stuff like that. The majority of gamers are strictly casual. You were right about the percentage being off, it's closer to 42% now and continues to grow. Deal with it. I do not know what your definition of a hard core gamer is but it is hardly relevent. Surely you have noticed the many female members of this very forum and the growing number of women in the video game industry.
