I'm going to be posting this both here and in the PW section. But I've been building a module and at one point had a script set I was wanting to use. Now the script set does not seem to work the way it does with older content, so I'm hoping I can find someone who would help me make a new set of scripts for my world. If not make new ones for the world, maybe at least help me get the other script set running? Anyway, this might be a big task but it's beyond my understanding at this time. So I hope I can get someone who would like to be part of something new and hopefully very different from other PW out there.

If you don't get anyone to commit to this project, feel free to post want you need here and I'm sure someone, if not a few people, would be glad to try and help you.

I'd need more than help because I don't understand it at all. Like I can give links to different scripts that I'd like to use, but other than that, I don't know what to do. I try to add things and then it tells me it will overwrite stuff. So I don't do that. I'm just lost.

Make a backup copy of your module. Put it in a safe place. The go ahead and overrite the scripts and try to get it to work. If It does not work you can just pitch that module in the trash can and go and go back to your back up copy.
The only real way to learn to to dive in. Just make sure you have a back up in case things go really bad.

Shame we can't do that with life, or even wife.

You can do this with anything. The point is not to be afraid of failure. You learn from your mistakes and come out stronger.

And then when you do get some aspect working, make a back up for that before trying to add in the next thing. Still keep your original backup safe though.

Between being the only builder, getting ready to start up college, and dealing with some other things, I just don't have time to poke around and figure it out. Especially since I want to get this place up and running ASAP. I just really need a scripter who would be willing to either get the ORS scripts to work with my module, or help put in a script set that would give me all the functions I want available. I'd even be willing to pay someone. Scripting just isn't something I can wrap my head around right now.

Yeah scripting is a multi-year project to learn and least it was for me. There are the base module pw scripts on the vault which are pretty much self contained. But your best bet is getting help as you have indicated. Making mistakes is fine if you have the time, and you don't. Try thinking of the general feel you want. How do you want you monsters to behave? Do you want them to fight intelligently, like they would using Tony K's AI or some other custion AI. Do you want aninals behaving naturally? Or just what exactly is most important to you?
Read the guides to setting up persistent worlds.
Think about persistent database objects on PC's to store int's persistently over server resets.
Useful for saving locations, curses, and other pertinent information on the PC.
An example would be the notoriety system I use which keeps track of the reputation you have acquired due to your actions: quests completed, bounties taken, etc...
Just throwing some thoughts out there. Good Luck in your hunt for a scripter.

AngelRouge, it is a lot of work to build a module and it will take sometime. But the best way to learn is make mistakes and keep working at it. Scripting is a long process like ffbj, stated. But as a build/creator/owner of a module it is good to learn all and everything you can. This way you know what you want and how you want it too work.
Happy Hunting!!

If you are not supporting people other than yourself, you have enough time to learn scripting. While in college I taught myself how to code well enough to get work doing it, and pay my own way through school. My area of study had nothing to do with writing code, and it is not something that comes natural to me. I just put in the time on my own time, and learned. Its one of those things that just takes time. When you are young you have that time.
If you aren't even in college yet, and you want to learn how to make computers do what you want NOW is the time to dive in. You will never again have as much free time as you do now.

Actually I'm 28 and have a lot going on. That's why I'm asking for someone to be a scripter for my PW. I have a player base waiting for me to finish this already. So between life outside of NWN and the detailed building, I really don't have the time to try and learn scripting outright. I'm more at a picking it up as I go AFTER I have my world up and running type deal. So as I said, I'm looking for someone to help me get the ORS script set to work with the stuff I want, or to help me set up a set for the world. If anyone would like to take up this job, I'd appreciate it and would possibly be able to reimburse for time.

I still don't see any reason to avoid learning other than that its a low priority.
Good luck to you anyway. Playing PW style is a lot of fun.

Could you perhaps at least put up a link to this "ORS" script set or describe the systems that you want to work together or if scripting from scratch, what it is you specifically want?

I think it's this one:
ORS or Orlander's Realistic Scritpting.
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=2605
Yeah, there is a ton of stuff there. First thing to do would be to determine a prority for what you want. The must haves of the system, implement those into your module. Then piece by piece add in the other features you want.
And I agree on your point of wanting a experienced scripter to take the lead. All the various systems could certainly prove to be overwhelming, even if things work as they are claimed to, right out of the box.

Yes I was meaning the Olander's Realistic Scripts, as shown by ffbj. It seems to have issues when I add the scripts, as it says to, to the CEP 24 based module that I started building my world on. I also wanted to make it work with a few other scripts, some that I know and some that I don't know where to find. One thing that I don't know how to find is roleplay XP. Mainly the XP that is given after so many lines of dialog have been spoken where it can be heard.
Also I'd like to add both Fallen's Vampire Subrace
http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=569
and Lestat's Night Spawn
http://nwvault.ign.c...d=24087&id=2783
I'd like to use Fallen's Vampires with Lestat's Werewolves. Lestat made both, from Fallen's, but I think the updates to Fallen's Vampires leave his vampires the better out of the two sets.
and then Amethyst Dragon's Kill Count Book
http://nwvault.ign.c...d=46783&id=3784
Those are the things that I know for sure that I want merged. Since I'm not a scripter, I don't know what it would take to make a custom PrC but at some point I'd like to add another. If I could have those things merged into working order, that would be awesome. I really like the ORS since it has so many systems that I do want. I think when I looked through it, there was only a thing or two that I did not want to use from it.
Also thanks for all the help or at least looking at this for me and my players.
