Who brings up the idea of the biotic shield if no Samara?

Normally, Samara brings up the biotic shield/bubble for the second part of the SM.

Of course, Samara doesn't need to be there.  She isn't a required recruitment.  She can die if the Normandy wasn't upgraded.

So someone must speak up... who?

Morinth...j/k. I mean that's one answer, but not the one you're looking for. I believe Jack is the other one that can successfully do the biotic barrier on the suicide mission.

It's been awhile since I tested this but I'm pretty sure it goes:

Samara/Morinth
Jack
Thane
Jacob
Miranda

Interestingly, if you remove all the biotics, including Miranda, from the party w/ the save editor, then Mordin will make the suggestion. Amusingly, Miranda will still show up to deliver the other lines that are unique to her during that scene. Of course, since Mordin is no longer a biotic character, the game gets stuck after that since there aren't any biotics in the party to select from.

So could the suicide mission be doomed before it started if all biotic characters got whacked before you get to that sequence? Sure Jacob, Mirando and possibly the MC might have biotic ability, but do they have enough to even make it near the door before the barrier fails?

edit: I've seen the youtube clips... I'm just wondering if you're out of luck if Samara/Morinth, Jack, Miranda and Jacob are all dead before you get to the seeker swarm area.

Without modifying a save?  No - Miranda is guaranteed to make it to the seeker swarm sequence.

To clarify - you'll be able to select someone to maintain the bubble.  They just won't do a very good job if you don't have Jack (didn't upgrade) and Samara (didn't recruit.)

Yeah. That.  It's why the game will hang if Miranda is removed: the code assumes she'll be a selectable squadmate no matter what until after the swarms have been passed. You can only get her killed at the final boss or during the "Hold the Line" sequence. Also, the game doesn't care if you don't have a loyal Samara/Morinth or Jack.  It just means you'll lose someone (who isn't Miranda, if you brought her) to the swarms.  And there are other conditions in the code to ensure you always have at least one person to leave behind for the "Hold the Line" sequence and two people to take to the final boss (e.g. if the 2nd team during the swarm sequence only has one member, they'll always survive getting shot at the door). Unless of course you, again, manually remove people with the save editor.

Here's a clip of everyone dying. There are as always, related videos on the same page. Not my clip, just one of the ones I've seen.

It's too bad that Samara is the main one to say it. I only recently had Jack say it instead... I think it was something like:

"There's no way we can get through the seeker swarms!"

Jack: "Is that a challenge? I bet I could make a biotic field to get Shepard and a couple people through."

(Paraphrasing)

Yeah I'd like to see a video for that. I'd have to start a whole new playthrough to try and get others to speak in that situatuion
