I bought ME2 via Steam and I was able to complete the main storyline with only a few freeze-ups on hitting the resume key.  However, after completing it, Resume or Loading games causes the program to freeze requiring me to bring up the task manaager to shut down the process.  I don't think the saved games are getting corrupted because about 1 out of 10 tries will allow me to load the game.  I also noted that once the game can load a saved file, as long as I do not turn the program off it will consistently load any other save game with no problems.

  I did a few searches to look for similar problems and have tried the following solutions

-Bypassed steam overlay by running MassEffect.exe

-Ran the program as administrator

-Setting affinity one of the CPUs

-When I can get the game running again I tried making multiple save files, I have yet to get one that can consistently load

-All powerful restart

-Sacrificed a goat (okay, not really)

MassEffect2.exe (v1.02)

2. System Details
      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
           AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 Processor  3390 MHz   7.99 GB RAM
           *ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series  /1.00 GB / 8.17.10.1083
           * Realtek High Definition Audio / 6.0.1.5969
      Configuration Utility | Platforum Tab
           * Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
           * DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

I would appreciate any help in this.

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

2) Please post a full problem report as per this thread: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299

1. If you have no discrete video graphics card made by AMD or nVIDIA, you have no support, and no complaint.

2. The game requires the Dx9 that it came with on its install disk.

Have you moved the My Documents folder from its default location to anywhere else on your drive? If so, follow the tips used in this thread;
http://social.biowar...6/index/5732726

Have you verified your Steam cache intergrity? It could be a corrupt game file causing the issue, and verifying te cahce should fix it up.
Are you running the game in XP compatability mode?

A few more things to try:
Download and install the latest version of the realtek driver from either your motherboard manufacturer, or realteks website. The one that is supplied by default in Win7 is known to be fairly buggy, and can cause all sorts of dramas.
Download and install DirectX 9.0c from Microsofts website. Steam should have installed it, but doesnt always do it reliably if it detects a newer version already installed. DX10 and 11 are not backwards compatible enough for ME2's requirements. Win7 is capable of running both versions side by side without issue.

Also, what version of the Catalyst control centre are you running?

Verifying Steam cache seems to have worked perfectly, which is nice because Microsoft's site didn't seem to want to make it easy for me to find Dx 9.0c.

Thanks for the help!
