Asari are aliens, but they're not really all that alien. Based on their similarities to humans, it is ridiculous to say that their reproductive structures are markedly dissimilar from female human anatomy, and even more ridiculous to claim that they're pseudohermaphrodites.
I still prefer my theories on asari history, sociology, reproduction and genetics.
With a totally implausible 'alien' (blue human female) race, can't we even have totally implausible theories on "what's down there"? For all we know they lay eggs and then suckle the babies when they hatch. With those gill and tentacle vestiges, it's entirely likely that they used to live underwater at one stage during their evolution. Or, perhaps their biotics are so naturally strong that they appear as the opposite sex to any other alien viewing them, but are in fact these vague nebulous protoplasms.
