Nonsense. Ever heard of a thing called a platypus?

Asari are alien. Alien means that they don't neccessarily conform to our narrow view of what is male/female (or indeed a cephalopod/mammal).

A cloaca simply means they urinate, deficate and procreate from one orifice. It does not inherently dictate egg laying. Remember, as a fictional mammalian analogue the asari are not bound by earth evolutionary standards. There is no reason to preclude live birth from a cloaca-like orifice.
