Speaking of higher-ups; Lugh trusts no one but himself to be in charge, something that hasn't changed since his time in the gang back on Earth. The Council, Cerberus, and even Alliance left him with a sour taste in his mouth with their ideas of leadership.
On the battlefield, Lugh likes to get up close and personal, being the vanguard that he is. Whomever or whatever he considers the most dangerous enemy, is usually his first target. You could say, he's making up for Torfan acting like that.
-
Hayleen Shepard, a spacer, is much more reserved. She is focused and decisive, but also knows how to kick back and relax. She prefers to listen more than talk and is always happy to mingle with her squad. Hayleen dislikes that everyone calls her by her last name, though no one seems to stop no matter how much she keeps reminding them. Unlike Lugh, she prefers a more diplomatic approch, but does not shy away from pistol-whipping real bastards.
She respects the Alliance to a certain extent, holds a grudge against TIM, mainly for Akuze, and just facepalms when dealing with the Council. The latter better be prepared for some air quotes.
Hayleen is a silent killer, prefering to strike fast, hard, and with precision from the distance with heavy-caliber sniper rifles. Her squadmates can always rely on her watching thier back, whatever the situation.

through his training he began to realize that he was a naturale born Soldier.after completeing his N7 training at arcturus he began his career in the Alliance navy.
after serveing for years Steven was finally able to relax and enjoy his shore leave.until all hell breaks loose; Elysium comes under attack.a massive coalition of batarian funded pirates and slavers hit the colony hard intending to wipe it off the galactic map.
unwilling to let the planets population be murdered and sold into slavery,he along with the alliances defending garrison fight in a heroic defense to save the colony, holding the breached and battered defenses for days until reinforcements arrive. For is actions above and beyond the call of duty he is awarded the star of terra and enjoys a reptuation of being a true hero of humanity.
Steven M.Shepard is a man who belives life is sacred. not due to any particular religous belife but beacuse people so far as he knows are only here in this world for so long and are only here once.all life has free will and nobody has the right to enforce theirs on anybody else.due to this belife he always fills some form of regret when hes forced to kill someone.he only kills a person when he is left with no other choice.
Stevens LI is ashley williams he is in love with her and missed her greatly in Mass effect 2.
shepard is occasionaly frustrated with the alliance and the council due to their lack of faith in his warnings but understands that from their perspective he dosnt have much proof to back up his claims.
in the end he will contiune to try in convince them to prepare and defend his actions in arrival as best he can.the repaers are monsters and he will not allow them to butcher and enslave all life in the galaxy.because after all they do not have the right nobody dose, and their just evil machines and evil machines can be broken!
*phew* long post.

Hardened soldier who gets the job done without forgetting about her morality, though she realizes that at times you have to use force (like say when you slug a reporter in the jaw or push an eclipse merc out of a skyscraper) to get your way. Stalwart alliance member who sacrificed Kaidan on Vermire (i swear it had nothing to with dating Liara but possibly cause Ash was closer to the ship), saved the rachni queen and the council and keep darnell undina's slimy ass far away from the seat he wanted. Though she partially admires Aria. Shes tough but can crack a joke. Above all else her squad and her mission is her first priority (or she would've let Zaeed burn to death in the refinery). Saved everyone and destroyed the collector base...but chose the quarian side over the geth and destroyed the heretics. She'd gladly give her life for any comrade, even though a blueish prothean expert has her heart. Believes that her squad is the family she never had growing up on the meanstreets of one of earth's megacities (like say seattle/vancouver). She's an extrovert when she needs to, but the only people getting inside her head to any degree are her squadmates.
Nathan Shepard- soldier/colonist/sole survivor/paragade (i cant bring myself to play renegade)
I really like the soldier class (see the "I'm impatient and powers take too long to charge lol")
Hes similar....but he realizes Ash has moved on, so has he to a certain extent with Jack. More stern and boisterous then Rahne. Has a deep hatred for batarians and didnt warn them of the relay, they slaughtered his entire colony taking him out of his easy life, hes never been able to let that go.

Nova Shepard, my main femshep and at this point main Shepard overall, is fighting for the greater good but extremely sharp and understands that sometimes what's good overall is bad for the person right in front of you. She'll help people when she has the chance but will never make a decision that is tactically unsound and will only go out of her way to provide aid to others if it realistically won't be detrimental to the success of the mission. She understands Steve wants his cat back, but that's frankly not Shepard's job and she hasn't got time to mess around with small problems when the reapers are breathing down the galaxy's collective necks. Doesn't hesitate to tell people who like Udina who are being obstructive to go fuck themselves, and is not afraid to play rough and intimidate the bad guys. They want to bring the reapers back, they deserve to get punched in the face. Usually ends up with a full paragon bar and ~20% renegade.
Xander Shepard, my first character and main maleshep, is the paragoniest of paragons. He once had a dream that all this was a video game and it didn't matter how much time he wasted he would always be just in time to stop the big bad guys. As such, he solves every problem he can find and, indeed, flies around the galaxy finding wrongs to right. He believes in leading by example so that others might follow in his footsteps and also be paragony paragons, because he can't be everywhere at once but he can inspire others to take up the important work of proctecting the innocent and saving Steve's cat. Literally never makes a renegade choice, except for maybe like one or two being distrustful of the Illusive man.
Ganondorf Shepard, my amusing character, is a huge asshole. He is vaguely inspired by my impression of the average online forum community. He is as obnoxious as possible to everyone he meets because watching them squirm when they know they can't do shit to Shepard amuses him. He makes every renegade choice possible except when dealing with pirate or slaver scum types, in which case he suddenly becomes a paragon to go all holier than thou on them and ****** them off further. Rages at Terra Nova but pretty much parrots their view to any actual alien. Kills Steve's cat because if Steve can't keep track of a fucking cat he needs to learn a lesson. Starts romancing Jack, then when she starts trusting him and reveals herself to actually be a sensitive and needy mess, dumps her sorry ass because he's not a goddamned therapist and also Miranda has bigger tits anyway. Enjoys peanut butter sandwiches and building sandcastles in his free time.

Known as the man who makes the impossible possible, the legendary hero of the Skyllian Blitz and a Star of Terra recipient is an enigmatic figure; living half in shadow and half buried in his own mythology. The first human to become a SPECTRE reputedly cared little for the trappings of identity. Long before he would lead the Citadel races to victory against Saren and the Geth, his chief concern in life was the mission, and for many years he lived only to complete his objective.
Shepard was practically born into military service, as both his parents were enlisted officers in the Systems Alliance Navy. Bouncing around from posting to posting he was mostly raised by any number of enlisted servicemen, who more or less served as his surrogate parents. His upbringing helped to groom him for a military life, and at 18 he enlisted with the Alliance Marines. He quickly rose up through the ranks showing natural leadership skills and by the time he was 22 he had attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant; which was all but unheard of for most his age.
During the invasion of Elysium by Batarian warlords and slavers, Shepard sustained little casualties to the few marines and civilians he led during the defense but sustained heavy injuries at his expense, including the loss of his left eye from a ricochet round as well as severe nerve damage to three of his fingers on his right hand and his left thigh. He has since had his damaged eye replaced with an artificial one. After the victory of that battle he was awarded the Star of Terra by Admiral Kahoku and promoted to Staff Lieutenant.
After his recovery Shepard was recruited into the Alliance Special Forces where he received additional training and operation proficiency, quickly obtaining the N7 designation in just 3 years. By that time, he was assigned to a newly formed experimental covert unit code named [retracted] specializing in many of the same functions as the Salarian STG with the notable exception of grooming the operatives with enhanced genetic and cybernetic augmentations, almost all of them being universally illegal by Citadel Council laws. During this time Shepard participated in a number of covert black ops, including: assassinations, espionage, guerilla warfare, snatch and grabs, escorts and at least one suspected murder of a high ranking Batarian hegemony official on Khar'shan suspected of funding at least three major terrorist cells responsible for the deaths of countless human colonists.
For his service with [retracted] Shepard obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander by age 30 with the privilege of picking his own missions. It is of note that Shepard's first meeting with Captain Anderson took place during this time, co-opting a recovery mission with the Turian High Command of a Batarian defector seeking asylum for state secrets regarding the deployment of biological ballistic missile systems to be placed around key Council race colonies.
Current status: After chasing Saren to hell and back, the victory over Sarens forces at the Battle of the Citadel and following his "death" and supposed resurrection by Cerberus operations along with the eradication of the collectors and the destruction of their base beyond the Omega-4 relay, Shepard's starting to show signs of wear and tear. He's growing weary of battle as well as being fed up with the amount of red tape he's receiving from the Citadel Council and the Alliance. Something he's not accustomed to.
Edit: The first paragraph is basically plagarism I drew from memory off the top of my head, of descriptions of two famous videogame protaganists from one of my all time favorite series. Bonus cookies to whoever can name it.
Edit 2: I'll try and add more later, as I'm tired and can't really think anymore lol.

He rose rather quickly in rank and in the estimation of his superiors and those under his command. He leads by example and will always allow volunteers to do duty. Those are more often spontaneous, rather than asked for (see reports on deaths of Kaidan Alenko and Operative Taylor). He will not kill unless provoked and expect (or will influence) that thinking in others (see reports on so called loyalty missions of former Operative Lawson, Subject Zero and the turian Garrus Vakarian). He will not needlessly discard lives, unless the needs of the many outweigh those of the few (refer to the Feros and Noveria reports, the “Asteroid X57 incident” and the reports on the rescue of the crew of the SR2).
His anti-Cerberus sentiments (daily reports on refusal to use Cerberus equipment, leaking of Cerberus data to the Alliance, destruction of the Collector base, insubordination to the Illusive Man, turning of former Operative Lawson and theft of the SR2) are worrying.

Edit: He doesn't want to be a hero, but he doesn't have a choice. He's always the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. It's the story of his life. When asked why he's taken up arms against the Reapers he answers, "because there is nobody else to do it."

It ends up being mostly paragon, especially the main decisions.
I did however end up sacrificing the council, as I felt that the main focus was to defeat Sovereign and I couldn't risk trying to save the council at the same time.
I also ended up losing a few people on the suicide mission, since stopping the collectors was more important than most of the loyalty missions.
Most of the other Shepards I've played have ended up being very stereotypical, since they've otherwise eventually just converged to my main.

Was born and grew up in a military family - with her mother being a higher ranking officer, and her farther being a kind an caring man who mostly worked with supply units, and would probably preferred a quieter live in a colony, but stayed to make his wife happy.
She joined the Alliance because she could not imagine living "dirtside" and was subtly pressured in to it because she was a biotic. Shep became a "model officer" and a "credit to the uniform" not because she was pro Alliance but because she firmly believes that if one does something it has to be done well, other ways you are just waisting everyones time.
Lareon had extensive biotic, weapon, tactics and psychological training that qualified her for "sensitive tasks" and "difficult situations" like hostage negotiations, or inner investigations.
Always calm, collected and goal orientated she does not put much stock in politics and ideals, and instead believes in doing the best she can with what she has been given.
She becomes the first human Spectre because it is what is expected of her, just another job to do well - show the galaxy that the System Alliance is competent organization and humans are here to stay.
She is attracted to Kaidan because of their shared "biotic experiences" as well as because he remains her of her father in some ways, but has a stronger, more military minded side to him, and she thinks that he is a great "husband material" for her - her carrier is on the rise, the Specter status allows her the choices without crossing regulations, and her parents where asking for grandchildren again...
After she is resurrected Lareon becomes royally pissed off - the Alliance she served so well all her live did not even bother to retrieve her body, the treats she warned them about and in the end died from are ignored, the man she wanted to marry calls her a traitor. So she turn to Cerberus to provide her with there resources she needs to get the job done - she has no intention of dying in Reaper invasion if she can prevent it.
She becomes less diplomatic, since she is not the "face of Alliance" anymore, still a good commander and loyal to her crew she is much less tolerant to "emotional bull****" and "political sensitivity", and goes straight for her goal - getting the job done. In the way it is liberating - she does not have to think about her, or Alliances image anymore and can concentrate on the task at hand. Essentially she becomes as much of a "perfect Cerberus operative" as she was "the perfect Alliance solder".
She although realizes that any prospects of family, and maybe settling down with the quieter post eventually are firmly out of her reach, that she is fated to fight until the day she dies and she is ok with that. Cerberus made her in to what she is now - a cyborg, and a perfect war machine - faster, stronger, smarter and even more capable.
She although discovers that her "perfect partner" was right there all this time - someone willing to cover her back even is he has to follow her in to hell to do it - Garrus. He may be a Turian and not someone she considered physically attractive before, but sometimes it's not about that, sometimes it's about trust, unity of purpose and understanding, he is the one thing she can relay on, they both have war in their blood.
At the last parts of ME2 after reuniting with Liara Shepard started to let go of her cold inner anger, and be a bit more willing to use diplomacy on occasion, her single mined orientation on the goal and taking down the target never wavered, but some of her wounds are starting to heal. She has no desire to go back to the alliance, and still believes that Cerberus is right - some things have to be done, no matter the "political" and "moral" storms they would cause, but she agrees that.a bit more diplomacy and patience will not hurt - it's always pays off to try being nice first, since one always can pull the gun afterworlds if the "candy" did not work.

Likes: shotguns, diplomacy, violence (but only when it's funny.)
Dislikes: reapers, mercs, Jacob's dad, etc. Solves these problems with her shotgun where possible.
I don't really play Mass Effect for the story.

My main Shep is a renegon, earthborn/ruthless. Growing up on the streets back on earth, Shep knows that the weak will get trampled if they don't stand up for themselves, and that includes herself. She doesn't believe in coddling people, because it makes them soft, but will go to extreme lengths to do what she sees as the right thing (such as when she stops to slavers on Torfan). Shep is rather lacking in social skills, seeing as those always came secondary to survival. She is very loyal to her companions and willing to help them in their troubles, but she isn't especially patient, and gentle moments are rare. Shep doesn't trust Cerberus at all, and has no romance.
