Born on Earth, Varos wasn't the most athletic, and had to face bullies as a child. His desire to protect himself from harassers drove him to learn how to fight and use guns, and even got him to join a gang to make some money. As soon as he got the chance, however, Varos went to the Alliance Military and joined as a reconnaisance specialist.
During a mission on Elysium, Varos was stuck guarding a bridge leading nto a residential area. Using the bridge as a funnel for enemy forces, he set himself up on a perch and sniped out an entire enemy force single handedly. He was rewarded a medal for his service, and Garrus Vakarian would later use this strategy during his stint as Arcangel.
(I've never played ME1, but I really want to when I get a decent computer. So I don't know as much about the story as most people.)
Varos became good friends with Liara, Kaidan, Wrex, and especially Garrus and Tali. He and Ash, however, never got along due to her xenophobic views. He didn't romance anyone during the Eden Prime war, mostly because he considered the mission too important for any romantic ties..
After killing Benezia, Varos chose to realease the Rachni Queen. He couldn't just doom an entire species, and trusted that they would help instead of harm in the future.
On Virmire, Varos only had time to save one of his squadmates. He extracted Kaidan from the planet, convinced Wrex that Saren's genophage cure was not the answer, and left Ashely to die. Though he was never on good terms with her, he still vowed to not lose any more people than were necessary.
During the attack on the Citadel, Varos was faced with a tough choice; save the council, or save the alliance fleet?
Never one to condone people just because they're politicians, Varos eagerly saved the fleets which were needed at that moment. The council had betrayed them before, and he wasn't about to save them because they asked for it.
After the battle, Varos gave Anderson the council seat. He didn't trust Udina in a position of power like that.
After dying once and being revived by the Lazarus project, Varos felt somewhat indebted to Cerberus, but didn't like the idea of working with them. At odds with the Illusive Man often, he didn't get along with Miranda, and found her worse than Ashley.
Varos recruited his first few squad members in the order of; Arcangel (revealed to be Garrus), Mordin, Zaeed, Kasumi, Grunt, and then Jack. His confrontation with Kaidan on Horizon didn't go very well, and he left the colony saddened.
He later recruited Tali, which brought the second of his two best friends back into the squad. He helped her with her trial eagerly. Comforting her when her father was discovered to be dead, he saw a side of her that he hadn't seen before. Angry at the Admiralty Board for putting so much emphasis on politics, Varos incited the crowd and pardoned Tali without shaming her father's name.
Death had affected Varos, and decided that since death repeatedly stared him in that face, it was now or never to find love, and he found it in Tali. The two began a relationship, even though Garrus would joke around with the two of them very often.
After recruiting Samara and Thane, Varos' mission became focused on building his team.
He had Miranda introduce herself to Orianna, left Jacob's father to die, saved Sidonis from Garrus' revenge, got Grunt admitted into clan Urdnot, blew up the facility on Praggia for Jack, convinced Mordin to save the genophage data, helped Samara kill Morinth, helped Thane reconcile with his son, convinced Kasumi to destroy Keiji's greybox, helped Zaeed kill Vido (to save people from the Blue Suns as a whole, even thoguh it meant sacrificing the workers), and reprogrammed the Geth for Legion. Using his charm and wit, he kept the fights between Miranda and Jack, and Tali and Legion, from escalating. He also decided to regain his Spectre status for it's benefits in Citadel space. In the end, his entire squad was focused on the mission.
The fight through the collector base was rough. Sending Jacob in as a fire team leader and Legion as a vent specialist, they made it to the crew just in time and rescued them with no losses from the squad or crew. Garrus was assigned as the second fire team leader, Mordin was designated to escort the crew to the Normandy, and Samara held a biotic field up while Varos, Grunt, and Zaeed charged through the swarm infested halls. Finally, Varos took Garrus and Tali to the Human-Reaper larva. After a long battle, the collector base was destroyed, and they escaped from the base with no casualties. No one left behind.
Relationships with various characters (with comments by Varos himself);
Miranda - Varos doesn't trust Cerberus, and as an extent, doesn't trust Miranda. Though he's willing to work for her and even help rescue her sister, he isn't interested in becoming friends with her.
"Ice Queen is the best damned description I've heard of her this entire mission."
Jacob - Varos initially viewed Jacob the same way he viewed Miranda, but grew to befriend him after learning that he wasn't totally fanatical about Cerberus' goals. After Jacob smart-mouthed Tali and Thane, Varos began to resume his distrust towards Jacob, seeing him as close-minded.
"At least he's good with a shotgun. But so is Tali."
Garrus - Varos and Garrus share a 'combat buddies' relationship. Varos is the better sniper of the two, but he and Garrus still have occasional 'kill count contests' on missions, which Varos usually wins with his Widow Sniper Rifle.
"He's not a very good Turian. He's the best, and don't you forget it."
Grunt - Varos had trouble keeping Grunt in line at first, but after getting him into clan Urdnot, he began to trust the young Krogan at his back.
"For a few weeks old, Grunt can cause some damage. I wish he knew how to delete his extranet history, though."
Mordin - Varos and Mordin get along well. Their concern for life is mutual, and Varos deeply respects Mordin's work.
"I want to give him some gardening tools and see what he can do to an Eclipse merc."
Zaeed - Entertained by his war stories, Varos enjoyed talking with Zaeed occasionally. However, Zaeed's attitude stopped Varos from putting Massani in any extremely important situations.
"He's a ******, but he's a badass too."
Kasumi - Varos and Kasumi got along very well, to the point where Tali became jealous (though this was remedied). They are friends, and Varos likes to get her opinion on the crew since she's highly observant.
"Where the hell is my wallet?"
Jack - Varos and Jack do not get along well at all. Their only thing they have in common is the dislike of Cerberus.
"Crazy **** is pretty accurate."
Tali - Tali is Varos' lover and he is very protective of her. His concern for the Quarian people bring them close together, and they have plenty of things to talk about since they are both tech specialists. Even though he'd prefer to keep her safe on the Normandy, she insists on coming with him and Garrus on missions whenever she can.
"Nothing's faster than Chiktikka vas Paus? Pfft, yeah right."
Thane - Varos and Thane talk often. Varos' desire to learn more about other races leads him to asking Thane about the Drell culture and religion very often.
"He walked in on Mordin giving me 'advice' about Tali and had a recall... more than awkward."
Samara - Varos doesn't talk to Samara very much since he feels that being bound to a code that restricts your life isn't the best idea since he idealizes freedom. He respects her, but only really knows her on a professional basis.
"I get the slightest feeling that she may want to kill me after all this."
Legion - Varos talks to Legion regularly to learn more about the Geth. After many talks with them, Varos considers the Geth a race to be preserved.
"If they think at the speed of light, why the hell does it take them so damn long to build a consensus?"
Joker - Joker and the Commander talk often about the 'good old days'. They are opposed on the subject of EDI, but they are still on good terms.
"All I'm saying is that having EDI in the cockpit with him helps to keep him entertaining."
The Illusive Man - Varos regularly talks sarcastically to the Illusive Man and doesn't trust him at all.
"I think he got the eyes because he stared at that sun for too long."
(I might type later, or type up my Renegade Shepard, Orion.)
