I was thinking of going triple rogue or two rogues and a warrior but is this impossible on the hardest difficulty?
Possible to win on nightmare without a mage?

This is only conjecture (as I have never attempted it), but I would be inclined to say that it is impossible to best the game on Nightmare without a dedicated healer. To say nothing of the rest of the boss encounters in the game, the Archdemon fight just has way too much attrition in the way of unavoidable damage.

It is entirely possible.

Yes, every possible scenario is possible.
Bring lots of health poultices and make your companions durable enough to reduce the amount of healing needed.

It's entirely conceivable (if horribly boring) to solo the Arch Demon with an extremely good Arcane Warrior or Warrior Tank with a crossbow with Corruption. Very, very many ways to do it. Easily? Mmm. But very possible.

My arcane warrior solo'ed the archdemon melee-style, dual wielding Duncan's Sword+The Rose's Thorn. While it took longer than if my warden was with a full group, I wouldn't quite call it boring. I like the epic boss fights. There was no need for Corruption with shimmering shield.

How is melee or ranged combat boring?

Eh, some people like combat and some don't.
I've always liked combat in rpgs, especially when the game does it well. It helps me feel like I'm in the game and not just playing an interactive book or movie.

You can totaly do it fine. It wont be as easy of course but theres no problem.
Many people have beat the game solo on Nightmare or with unique character groups.
Like 4 Warriors, 3 Rogues and a Shapeshifted Mage or Warrior. Etc
Personaly 3 Ranger Rogues with Bears/Spiders looks extremly cool with Morrigan always Shapeshifted into a Bear/Spider.
4 Warriors is pure destruction, particularly if you make them all dps characters.
The only things of note are you will need someone as a herbalist so you can make healing items for those tough boss fights and also make salves (Fire and Spirit resistances) for certain fights like the dragons.
See my Sig link for another option for a 4 Archer party.
