Didn't see a thread like this on a quick search, so... [[Very early observations follow]]
**Old World Blues SPOILERS follow**
A few early thoughts. Personally, I am loving it. I've spent about 3 hours in the game and have yet to even start an achievement-based quest. In this time, I have left the Sink only once to get a sampling of the local enemies and make a single foray out to explore to the edge.
I usually eek into new environments slowly, but I've spent most of my time with the Think Tank (popping mentats like candy and wearing my Mad Scientist Suit -- [moderate intelligence and science score with this Courier]), setting up my new quarters, crafting a few needed items, repairing all my stuff, reloading ammo, and looting containers/bad guys immediately around the Think Tank/Sink. Made one foray out to the Yangtze Camp. Getting ready to get serious about the actual quests and scouring Big MT.
Thoughts:
A huge DLC with an explorable environment that many AAA game developers can't match in their base games.
There's almost too much loot. I have Hunting Revolvers (my personal fav side arm) coming out of my ears and haven't even degraded the one I carry enough to repair it once yet, so I have to head back to the sink way too often to dump everything. I literally can fill up my load (300 lbs) (even repairing armor and weapons up) in a few minutes of roaming and killing bad guys/creatures or looting chests and blasting Securitrons, etc.
Science/Intelligence is kicking my ass. I'm a Guns guy with repair and lockpick focus, so mentats and science suits are my friend. It's actually good to be forced into being creative to meet the required skills of this add-on.
I gained a complete level just talking with the Think Tank and exploring/looting/killing enemies in the immediate area. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I thought it was interesting. I felt really put through the wringer with the Think Tank (even if they are turning out to be half-mad nitwits), and was well rewarded for passing the Science/Intelligence checks...even if most of it was augmentation.
The Sink's quarters for the player look like they've been designed with player feedback in mind. Really like having the cabinets above the reloading and work benches. Little things like that add up for me.
The personalities of the Think Tank, and Mobius are hilarious and worth the effort to dig out their dirty little secrets, disorders and other-worldly weirdness.
Can't imagine a low-level character having much fun in this DLC, because certain requirements are just too high. Not just Science/Intelligence (or Speech/Barter as a possible bypasses for some checks), but enemies like Nightstalkers seem tougher than their New Vegas counterparts. Nightstalkers swarm you like the base game, but require 2 point blank head shots (small weapons score is 100 and all critical chance/VATS perks are taken) most of the time. Nothing unmanageable, but unexpected. On the other hand, Lobotomites fall if you blow on them, so I wouldn't recommend wasting .50 MG or MF Cells on them.
Anyway, a few random, early offered, and barely coherent thoughts...bottom line, a huge DLC, with more to offer than many AAA developer's main games. Very pleased thusfar, and quite excited to really get started.
Other thoughts/comments?
EDIT 1: Spoilers label. My bad.
EDIT 2: Expanded topic to include both Old World Blues and Lonesome Road.
EDIT 3: Expansion of topics to include all FO:NV DLC (Dead Money and Honest Hearts).
EDIT 4: Thread title revised to include FO:NV general discussion (unless anyone disagrees to it), as well as all associated DLC, since this thread has been resurrected (Thanks Addai!!
) to stave-off the Skyrim thread from being hijacked; and also since it has seemed to morph into somewhat of a gravitational center for New Vegas fans.
EDIT 5: (12-7-13): Renamed thread to encompass Fallout 3 discussion by request; and to keep New Vegas and FO3 gameplay discussion away from the inevitable clutter and disappointments of the pending Fallout Next game "news / announcement" threads.
EDIT6: Cleaned up some gods-awful grammar. Yes, I know its still pretty bad, but not as much so.
