Didn't see a thread like this on a quick search, so... [[Very early observations follow]]

**Old World Blues SPOILERS follow**

A few early thoughts. Personally, I am loving it. I've spent about 3 hours in the game and have yet to even start an achievement-based quest. In this time, I have left the Sink only once to get a sampling of the local enemies and make a single foray out to explore to the edge.

I usually eek into new environments slowly, but I've spent most of my time with the Think Tank (popping mentats like candy and wearing my Mad Scientist Suit -- [moderate intelligence and science score with this Courier]), setting up my new quarters, crafting a few needed items, repairing all my stuff, reloading ammo, and looting containers/bad guys immediately around the Think Tank/Sink.  Made one foray out to the Yangtze Camp. Getting ready to get serious about the actual quests and scouring Big MT.

Thoughts:

A huge DLC with an explorable environment that many AAA game developers can't match in their base games.

There's almost too much loot. I have Hunting Revolvers (my personal fav side arm) coming out of my ears and haven't even degraded the one I carry enough to repair it once yet, so I have to head back to the sink way too often to dump everything. I literally can fill up my load (300 lbs) (even repairing armor and weapons up) in a few minutes of roaming and killing bad guys/creatures or looting chests and blasting Securitrons, etc.

Science/Intelligence is kicking my ass. I'm a Guns guy with repair and lockpick focus, so mentats and science suits are my friend. It's actually good to be forced into being creative to meet the required skills of this add-on.

I gained a complete level just talking with the Think Tank and exploring/looting/killing enemies in the immediate area. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I thought it was interesting.  I felt really put through the wringer with the Think Tank (even if they are turning out to be half-mad nitwits), and was well rewarded for passing the Science/Intelligence checks...even if most of it was augmentation.

The Sink's quarters for the player look like they've been designed with player feedback in mind. Really like having the cabinets above the reloading and work benches. Little things like that add up for me.

The personalities of the Think Tank, and Mobius are hilarious and worth the effort to dig out their dirty little secrets, disorders and other-worldly weirdness.

Can't imagine a low-level character having much fun in this DLC, because certain requirements are just too high. Not just Science/Intelligence (or Speech/Barter as a possible bypasses for some checks), but enemies like Nightstalkers seem tougher than their New Vegas counterparts. Nightstalkers swarm you like the base game, but require 2 point blank head shots (small weapons score is 100 and all critical chance/VATS perks are taken) most of the time. Nothing unmanageable, but unexpected. On the other hand, Lobotomites fall if you blow on them, so I wouldn't recommend wasting .50 MG or MF Cells on them.

Anyway, a few random, early offered, and barely coherent thoughts...bottom line, a huge DLC, with more to offer than many AAA developer's main games.  Very pleased thusfar, and quite excited to really get started.

Other thoughts/comments?

EDIT 1: Spoilers label. My bad.

EDIT 2: Expanded topic to include both Old World Blues and Lonesome Road.

EDIT 3: Expansion of topics to include all FO:NV DLC (Dead Money and Honest Hearts).

EDIT 4: Thread title revised to include FO:NV general discussion (unless anyone disagrees to it), as well as all associated DLC, since this thread has been resurrected (Thanks Addai!!wizard.png) to stave-off the Skyrim thread from being hijacked; and also since it has seemed to morph into somewhat of a gravitational center for New Vegas fans.

EDIT 5: (12-7-13): Renamed thread to encompass Fallout 3 discussion by request; and to keep New Vegas and FO3 gameplay discussion away from the inevitable clutter and disappointments of the pending Fallout Next game "news / announcement" threads.

EDIT6: Cleaned up some gods-awful grammar. Yes, I know its still pretty bad, but not as much so.

Look forward to playing it once the ultimate edition or whatever of Fallout New Vegas comes out.

Already have the vanilla version on PC and it's good.

Finished it yesterday, and I loved it. Definitely worth the $10.

Any DLC where I can talk to my brain is a DLC worth having. The loot is awesome too.

And I'll never look at my feet/hands the same way..

I have a question about this DLC. Did the enemies stop respawning after finishing the DLC? I finished it yesterday and decided to continue killing the lobotomites and those weird skeletons so I could get their weapons, repair them and then sell them to make lots of money. However they stopped respawning. Is it a glitch or something?

SPOILERS
I'd like to know what people did at the end. I killed all the scientists except for Mobius. They performed horrible experiments on people, cities, prisoners, etc. I don't think they can be trusted even if they promise not to perform any experiments.

I let Mobius live, and the think tank sided with me over Klein so they all lived, too.

Why did I let them live? FOR SCIENCE!!

By which I mean they can still do good researching technologies, and they're pretty much stuck in Big MT anyway ( especially with me watching over it), so they might as well live. Plus, I like the idea of my wild card courier having some mad scientist allies.. Even if they are all completely incompetent.. You never know, right?

Plus... Dala . WooooOOOOooooOOOO.

Definitely worth the $10. Challenging (surprisingly so - some of the enemies seem to be tougher than the ones I fought in Dead Money even though this has a lower recommended level and my stats have been boosted crazy high since then), loot out the wazoo, return of the surreal, zany, black comedy of Fallout 2. I've played for about three or four hours and haven't even finished my first quest yet (attempting to get the Sink intelligences back online).

Obsidian really deserves some props for putting out three straight high-quality DLCs.

Just played the intro and was quickly bored with it. This is not why I play Fallout- a series of Dr. Strangelove type gags and hard combat. Just not my thing. I'll finish it eventually, but probably should have gone with my first impression.

Totally loved it.

Dead Money was like a Saw-Heist film hybrid. Lonely Hearts was like Dances with Wolves meets Beyond The Thunderdome. And Old World Blues was Dr. Strangelove meets Plan 9 from Outer Space. When I wasn't cracking up at the dialogue, or swearing at the gang-raping roboscorpion ambushes, I was thoroughly impressed at how it gave some much background info to the other DLCs and the main game.

And I'm in love with The Sink, its my favoritest part of the DLC, its really nice having a home base I can warp to from anywhere with a built in store and repair center.

From what I've seen (haven't played it), it's Fallout 2 + 10. They go pretty out there with the SCIENCE! theme.

Best DLC so far.

Although the Stealth Suit MKII needed more tweeking. Theres a couple of bugs with it.

Interesting transcripts and voice notes about Ulysses as well. Looking forward the going to the Divide now and getting an end to the Couriers journey.

Ah yes, forgot about that stealth suit.. Damn thing got me addicted to med-x with its auto-medicating, plus the voice seemed about twice as loud as everything else. Ah well, preferred my old duster anyway.

I like the Stealth Suit, though its "features" can sometimes be irritating: I had to change its script so it stopped randomly dispensing Med-X, and as much as I love it's "Holly off Red Dwarf" personality, the loud voice can sometimes be annoying.  Cue an NPC speaking to me: "I'm just about to tell you something very important: pay close attention, becasue-" "I BET THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYONE AS UNNOTICED AS ME!!!eleven"  Er, thanks for that, Suit. <_<

And it'd be nice if the Transportalponder returned you to where you last used it.  Which mine now does, thanks to some buggering about, but it would've helped had it done that from the outset.

Still, wonderful DLC, and the utterly over-the-top bad-science and sex-obsessed dialogue is hilarious!

Fallout 1 was the least "crazy" of the series so not really.

Comparisons to Fallout 2 may be more apt. It's a bit two-fold though. Fallout 2 was really crazy but I'd say Old World Blues is a lot crazier overall. In Old World Blues' defense though, nearly all of it is very rooted in the Science! vibe which makes it fit in with the Fallout universe somehow (even though it's turned up several notches).
Whereas Fallout 2 was crazy in some ways but it also broke a lot of the themes of Fallout (San Fransisco being a huge and glaring example).

Anyways, I tend to like my Fallout fairly down-to-earth and more rooted in the post-apoc feel of Fallout 1 rather than the very heavy 50s vibe so Old World Blues is my least favorite New Vegas DLC so far. But even so, I still find it an extremely fun experience on its own and supremely well-written. The underlying story is also quite clever in many ways. But I think it kinda lacked the impact because of the silly tone the DLC has.

EDIT: All in all I'm extremely happy with the NV DLCs. I think they're definitely some of the meatiest DLCs in gaming, have various connections both with each other and the main game and it just seems like the devs takes them seriously. They don't feel like cheap little "fast-food" products that are spit out just to cash in. They are unique from one another, have unique themes and offer a good experience overall.

Yeah, the hyperbole going around about it being the best DLC ever made etc (not here but on Twitter).... people need to get out more.

Anyway, I'm currently stuck in the high school.  I've retrieved all three student records, but none of the doors will open, the force field is up and I can't get into the room with the Protectron which I'm pretty sure is where I need to go.  I can't get back out.  What the hell am I supposed to do?

The exit is on the second floor, past the room with the forcefield for most of the floor.

These blast doors?  They're locked, it says it requires a key.

Thats locked until you complete the "find the 3 Student files" portion of the test. So if you already found them you proly got glitched out.

It happens, I suppose, especially when something's current.  Even in the Fallout series I preferred Point Lookout myself (which is simply that: my personal preference, rather than any assertion that it's Teh Best™) but I do still think that OWB is pretty damn good regardless... especially if I compare it to the bulk of DLC for "certain other franchises".
