My first character was NCR, but I'm enjoying an independent game much more. I still do some quests for the NCR but basically I think they do not have the Mojave's interests at heart and need to get their noses bloodied so they'll stay home and solve their internal problems through better management rather than expansionism.

@ Barbarossa: I'm just glad to have some FNV discussion again.  :wizard:  I love GRA too, for the variety, but haven't found anything I love more than Ratslayer and Chance's Knife.  I try other things but always go back to those.  For a while I tried Two Step Goodbye and kept blowing up myself, my companions and innocent bystanders.  lol  That's a power fist that causes a body to explode if you get a crit kill.

I went ahead and re-titled the thread again...since this had been somewhat of a gravitational center for the the hardcore NV fans.

Oh, and I gave you credit in the initial post!!!!!!! Image IPB

BTW, Courier's Stash was a welcome addition for a new playthrough as well.  Don't feel near as naked.  First thing I did out the gate was to work my way quickly to the top of the villified list of the Powder Gangers....punks.  All is right and well in New Vegas.

Meh I don't care about the BoS. They're a useless faction and Veronica is boring. They should have retreated west long ago, not hunkered down. Plus my first game they put that slave collar on me and I'll never forgive them.

*cough* free ammo for your kickass energy weapons *cough*

That's why I grab a lot of EW ammo before destroying them. I didn't trust them for my independent Vegas, and the last thing I needed was to deal with a group that thinks all technology belongs to them post-Hoover Dam. Veronica had a good point, and the Brotherhood has no real future in the Mojave. At least now Veronica doesn't have to worry that the Brotherhood will kill her for helping people.

Yeah, but it's this big war story of which you're collateral damage in the beginning. It's almost like you're presented with all of these factions and asked to pick sides. Couldn't side with the legion, especially since they keep slaves and threatened to do the same to me when I first met them. The rest seem like gangs but the NCR is the only one that seems organized. Even if they don't have the Mojave's best interest at heart, they're the best chance the Wastes have to rejoin society and build a modern country.

Josh Sawyer said they made it so that the NCR would seem like the "good guys" at first and their darker side would become more apparent later, and Caesar's Legion the opposite, but unfortunately due to short dev time they couldn't make the civilian Legion areas they wanted to.

Even in a House ending, he says the NCR are his best customers so he doesn't want to eliminate them, just keep them from taking over the place.  I think it's better for the NCR in the long run because they are over-extended and it's weakening them internally.

Heh, thanks.

Between the stashes and mods I'm almost too rich on new characters now, but whatever.

Some mods I'm using that I like a lot are the New Vegas Bounties I and II, and for a basic but very functional player home the Goodsprings House.  Nevada Skies is a must.  Don't get caught outside in a radiated sandstorm.

We think our video card is fried so no playing for me til we get it fixed.

Yeah I tend to side with NCR and alley all the factions I can with them, minus the Khans I tend to get them and the Fallowers hooked up for the ending out that way with the whole new Mongol Empire out on the planes, plus geting them to make meds and not just drugs, etc.

Best Policy for New Vegas.

I liked Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road, but Dead Money is just too painful to play again!

Interesting. Any good articles on cut content that never made it into NV?

He said it on his Formspring feed, which has a lot of good commentary on the game's development.

Has anyone else been having a problem with their save files becoming corrupted? When I first got the game and the subsequent DLCs I had no problems with the game, but since they've stopped patching and pretty much ended anything involving the game I haven't been able to play the game without something happening, and now my saves won't load.

At first I thought it might have been the Courier's Stash DLC because I was reading some of the bugs reported with it, so I deleted that and the game was playing great, until I turned it on and tried to load a game, it wouldn't load so back to doing the samething before I uninstalled CS-DLC. I also read that the GR-DLC might be buggy as well, I just want to see if anyone else was having these problems before I uninstall and delete that and start over.

If your game gets "stuck" at the loading screen, just seemingly loading forever when you try to load a save game, start up a a new game and then load your save once you are in game.

I do have issues with loading quick saves sometimes, and have crashed to DT more than I like, but overall the game is stable enough.

I do have all DLCs loaded (to include CS and GRA), and have yet to put a single mod on. Spent a good portion of last night browsing the NV Nexus though, so that will probably change soon.

I have no trouble loading hard saves, and most quick saves will load...just the rare infinite spinning roulette wheel on a QS.

Yeah, Lonesome Road was almost impossible for me to complete. After I got out of Hopeville and The Crow's Nest, there was hardly any lag.

Anyways, I used to have a lot of trouble with lag and corrupted save files, but you should try this, rwilli80: disable kill replays, don't allow for autosaves, don't overwrite saves, delete and reinstall the game when you start to notice lag (I also did this after finishing any DLC), and everytime you start to get bad frame drops quite the game and restart your system. After the Lonesome Road patch, I noticed that they really made the game worse.

I don't have any problems with save files being corrupted and the game never crashes after they finished patching.

Dead Money is a heart-pounding ride, especially with exploding head syndrome, but I love it. It was much easier with my melee survivalist than with my guns/ science character.

Lonesome Road is really the one I found difficult. Sooo much death. I've been hoarding stimpaks in anticipation of it in my replay. If we can get the PC working again....

I never had a file to be corrupted, I've had it freeze on enting an area though a number of times. More than I can count.

You know one thing I miss from Fallout 3 to NV? The AK. I liked the Chinese Assualt Rifle, about the only weapon I used in the game, minus a combatshotgun and a sniper rifle.

I had difficulties loading a save in Nipton. Finally I discovered I should load an older save, then load Nipton save .. so the Error was solved.

Have you tried the assault carbine or marksman carbine?  I have a mod that adds playable companion weapons, and Lily's Assault Carbine is a terrifying little gun.

GRA Bozar is another nice machine gun.

Consoles have the same problem with being stuck at a load screen. I found the only way to ever bypass it is to never use auto-saves.

Starting playing RDD, bought the GOTY version without realizing it so I might be with it for a while, but I'm kind of stuck thinking about playing FONV.

So is anyone else a NCR loyalist? I loved taking out the legion with the army and Hoover Dam.

Yes. I am. And then THE GAME ENDS :(

Biggest weakness of FONV.

By the way, some of the DLC weapons are absolutely ridiculous. For example, I have a holorifle that does not take damage when used and does insane damage. When it comes to normal guns, the HH weapons are just plain crazy. Nothing is even remotely challenging with this stuff.

Of course, because I have a tendency to powergame a bit, I have handloader as well and use special ammo for extra damage. I really mostly have myself to blame for making the game too easy. I don't pick the most fair perks.

Only lamers stick with one faction! Make new characters and play the different options that the game so generously gives you!

But the above post highlights one of my few problems with the otherwise excellent DLCs. It's clear that NV was in no way balanced for them when it first came out, neither the level cap increases or the new weapons/resources that some of them throw at you. Without mods, the game gets completely broken with the DLCs unfortunately.

Well I didn't say I stick with NCR in every game. My longest game so far was my NCR game. They aren't exactly the good guys, but it was interesting enough.

I can't seem to side with the Legion though. They keep slaves, torture people and treat women like crap. I feel good about blowing them to pieces. Sometimes I think that's what their purpose in the game is anyway. They're so easy to hate.

I'm sure someone will come along and "teach" me why the Legion is great, but I can't quite seem to forgive the slaves and oppression part :)

As I mentioned up above, the developers intended to show that the Legion has done a better job of pacifying tribals than other factions and that their civilian lands are peaceful and orderly, at the cost of less personal freedom. They are attempting to repopulate by ensuring that women are kept behind the lines- but in the rank and file this gets translated into misogyny. Slavery is a part of that and also how they pacify new territories. Their Mojave campaign is the terror front they put up when entering a new area, hence the crucifixions and Vulpes Inculta's "lottery."

I haven't played a Legion character, either.  All my characters have been female and there aren't enough reasons in the game to do so.

What?! If you're a female character who supports the Legion, and who has the Black Widow perk, you get the option to insult Ulysses' manhood in the Lonesome Road DLC. What better reason could there possibly be? :P

I haven't been following the thread all the way through, but yes I do remember encountering that reasoning within the game as well.

It's a pretty good point that it's a terror front, but they are still the very worst kind of war criminals. There are some things I can't accept. Slavery and torture for example. I cannot even pretend to like it in a game.

My NCR character had the idea that at least you could turn the NCR into something positive. They aren't altruistic or anything, but they at least have the potential of being somewhat tolerable.

The independent path(s) in the game are quite fun. It gets easier if you pretend to be buddies with the NCR though, but you don't actually have to work for them.

Mine would be that you get to assassinate the NCR President, using any methods you see fit.

How I did it? Throwing Knife to the head from a faraway sniper tower

Heh, I like Ulysses but it's good they made all sorts of options.  Really they just needed one female from the Legion civilian areas to show up, tell you what a good life she has, that might have at least made it not so uniformly dismal.

It might be fun to rp a Powder Ganger.  Maybe your cousin Rufus was killed in the prison break and now you have a vendetta against the NCR.

I just don't personally enjoy for-the-lulz evil characters.  Didn't even blow up Megaton in FO3, though I watched the spouse do so.
