If you're a gun nut and into weapons, I recommend the following mod:

Barrett 98B with BORS optics.  It is absolutely fantastic with realistic report, recoil and associated visuals and sounds.

DAM and DPS is equivalent to the Anti-Materiel Rifle, but it only weighs 13.5 pounds, which is 6.5 less than the AMR.  It also shoots a .308 versus a .50 MG, which is much more abundantly available especially early on.

Anyone else tried Implant GRX (2) plus Chemist and Day Tripper? Bullet time for almost 4 minutes once per ingame day. Or you can have more than one shorter burst. I'd say it's definitely worth the 3 perks and probably the most overpowered thing in the game right now.

I took this and Them's Good Eatin' with me into Dead Money, and it's so much easier than it's ever been. Maybe one day I should try a character that can actually die :)

Hell with that set up you can probably get out of the vault with all the gold bars.

Sure. Don't see why I would bother though. I just spent 50k caps on the OWB implants and still have plenty to spare.

Even if you did get out with all of them i dont think there are enough places in NV with enough money to sell them...

What visual improvement mods are you guys using? Damn the engine seems dated now.

The poor vendor problem seems to exist across all Gamebryo games. Realistic perhaps but it's so annoying that you can never sell your items without a huge effort.

ReconTeam: Graphics don't matter much if the gameplay is good. I play many much older games still.

Yeah, I usually take one bar of gold with me to the Gun Runners every three days and buy up all their ammo for me and my companions and then take all their caps as well.

Another draw back which I didn't anticipate until I was out of the Sierra Madra... the fact I have over 11k in pre war money... it takes forever to get it down to a reasonable number to use. I am gonna have to start making dead drops at all my hide outs of 500 bundles.

It's been awhile since I've completed all the DLCs in my first playthrough, but doesn't the Sink merchant in OWB have a ton of caps?

I know there is a bug in Beth games that locks you out (you can sell, but won't recieve any caps) if the merchant goes above 30,000 of whatever unit of currency you're using (I've had it in NV and Skyrim [modded]), so you have to be mindful of that, but I remember the Sink being a good place to unload big inventory.

Can't wait to get back there btw.

The Sink merchant has 16k in my current game. Way better than Gun Runners. They are currently at 8k but it used to be 4, so I'm wondering if it will increase even more.

rwilli80, I did something clever about my prewar money. I exchanged it for Sierra Madre Chips in the casino there. I am in there now with 11k Sierra Madre Chips. Now why would I do that? Because I can buy free stuff like Weapon Repair Kits and Stimpaks in the BoS bunker. I have enough chips to last me the rest of the game.

^Yeah, Sierra Madre chips have some value. I remember crafting a bunch of them with all the scrap metal and fission batteries I had laying around that I had dropped in the BoS bunker on my first playthrough; just to buy a boatload of Doctor Bags, Weapon Repair Kits or something.

Thing is though, I already have over 100 WRKs and I run around with Raoul with Full Maintenance. And with me using the fully upgraded Holorifle. I guess you see where I'm going with this. There just comes a time in New Vegas where supplies are a non-issue and you just collect them for fun or to satisfy your OCD.

Yeah I am in that boat myself, I have a ton of repair kits and doctor's bags. Oh well.

Well, you could always gimp yourself to make the game more challenging. I only play on VH/Hardcore, and I went without using stimpaks (or anything that registered as "health from stimpaks"), drugs, or rad-chems. In the repair option, I only used third-party sources for repairs like merchants. I also didn't sell trash to merchants--only guns, ammo, and drugs. Even then, I kept it to where the merchant still had several bottlecaps left (the Wasteland economy must be booming because traders don't care about giving away all their coin for a plasma rifle that no one would buy outside of New Vegas).

I seriously wish I could play this damn game on my laptop so I can get Josh Sawyer's mod and several of the other mods that make the game tougher.

I tried gimping one time by limiting myself to small caliber weapons and no use of explosives, but quickly gave it up and just dialed up the difficulty. It's virtually impossible to role-play something like that with what I like to do in games. "Oh look a sniper rifle and frags...can't use those...because...?"

Not really a helluva lot of fun either, but I suppose it is another option.

Like you, for me it's just best to just dial up the difficulty, and adjust/limit certain small things, if you're absolutely bored with being a juggernaut. Honestly, combat on VH is not all that, if you avoid overbearing enemies while in your early levels like boss Deathclaws; but hardcore mode, yeah, that requires a whole new level of gameplay re-think and vigilance. When combined with a VH level of difficulty, it really changes the game landscape quite a bit.

I like how an Anti-Material rifle is used on a mantis.

Been on a real vigilante spree recently with Cass (had Boone the bulk of the time in my first playthrough) lately.

Went in a took out the Van Graffs and then the Crimson Caravan of Cass' behest.  Well, that sort of led (not necessarily naturally mind you) to the Strip and the Ultra Luxe and, on an impulse, tearing down the White Gloves (creeps that they are).  Not sure yet how that will all playout, having yet to talk to Mr. House and being unsure about how close I want to be with the NCR.  I want to use them of course, and my character seems very anti-Legion, although he has yet to kill a single Legionaire, (I see that coming soon though) and I'm really trying to limit meta-gaming as much as possible, but I'm probably tacking toward more of a Wild Card sort of playthrough as of now.

It's funny actually, I really had no intention of making trouble on the Strip, but there they were, the White Gloves with their canes, masks and faux high society demeanor, demanding our weapons at the door, and well...my PC just sort of snapped, fresh off of helping Cass "settle accounts," making the Van Graff "b!+ch, eat her hair," and acquiring her Vigilante Perk.  Man, my PC was boy scout-ish right up until Cass requested his help.  They may end up the new Vicki and Vance when all is said and done.  I think he probably just has a weakness for red heads.

I suppose, uncovering their secret, he and Cass felt vindicated in the end.  But I still think there'll be a price to pay down the road there somewhere.

Yeah, I know, it was the only picture I had that showed any detail...and it's still blurry as hell.  Please forgive his bullying the local fauna though.

Hey, you can never be too careful! I would nuke them all if I could. Just to make sure they're really dead.

Just trapped one arrogant bastard in the Sierra Madre Vault. Feels good every time. I left him some blood sausages and purified water.

Forgive? I fully endorse it. Bugs in Fallout deserve to be exterminated, mostly because of Cazadores though mantises still ****** me off.

The Honest Hearts Giant Cazadores ****** me off the most. They're so sneaky too. There I am minding my own business and peacefully picking flowers, and suddenly both my arms are crippled, I'm at 25% health and poisoned. What did I do to deserve this?

Cazadores just end up being really easy, particularly after OWB when you have +40% damage against them and poison resistance.

In real life, wasps scare the crap out of me too. I have hated them ever since I sat on one as a kid.

I hate the Nightstalkers in OWB. They seem like they got an HP-injection or something compared to those swarming little bastards in New Vegas. I use an AMR (or explosives if I can catch them all together) on them with glee.

Ah yeah. Do they do extra damage to armor or something? Because mine seems to break all the time against them.

Anyway, off to bed and tomorrow I will start my first Lonesome Road playthrough. Hope it's good. I thoroughly enjoyed all the other DLC so I have a good feeling about it.
