Yeah it's a shame the area just "dries up" like that once you are done. I would come back a few times otherwise.

I've got one more DLC to go with my guns character. and that's Dead Money.

By the way, I pretty much stayed away from drugs in my first playthroughs. But with my last two characters, I use at least psycho and med-x sometimes, and mentats for conversations (I can boost my int from 4 to  9 or 10 with mentats plus gear). Just rarely enough that I have never been addicted, but they are so helpful in a fight. Slasher is also great because it does the same thing as those two combined. Doesn't stack, but since it's a different drug you can alternate and avoid addiction.

I had a companion mod, too, and it was great to do the personal quest of the other ones I hadn't yet. Boone and ED-E are still my go-to guys, though.

Managed to get the +3 I needed in IN with the Mad Scientist Scrubs and Klein's Glasses, so I was able to avoid Mentats, all but one time in my first meeting with the Think Tank, on this run.  I, of course, have almost a 100 stored up at present.

I tend to avoid all drugs during my playthroughs now (or use them very sparingly), having done the addiction thing early-on in my Fallout experience.  Good news is that I can make some caps, downside is I primarily consume food stuffs early on and rely on special clothing and weapons for buffs, until I can perk up in Intense Training, and get my implants.

On to current events: I've just had to go to .50 MG Explosive Rounds for most enemies in Big MT.  I've tried running and gunning and it's just not working well enough for me. So, it's down to explosive rounds.  I remember playing through before and thinking that all enemies around Big MT were tough, but their DT/HP seems even higher now that I'm playing through as a level 50 (and I know they're leveling with us)...soooo...explosive rounds; and a 25mm APW with HE rounds to maim and cripple the hordes.  Probably the best spam weapon to break up swarms of enemies.

Just have to be very careful with proximity engagements and switch to shotguns for close-in clean-up.

Yeah they are scaled a lot and it is definitely the toughest part of the whole game. Many weapons can't even harm the roboscorpions, and the nightstalkers will chew through your armor in 2 seconds.

As for drugs, they are perfectly safe if you use them sparingly. With Chemist and Day Tripper (the latter is a free achievement perk) they last for ages too. Psycho and Med-X are just so helpful. The rest... Not so much.

Still, the most powerful thing in the entire game by far is Implant GRX (2) with Chemist and Day Tripper. Non-addictive turbo that lasts for something like 4 minutes, once per day. It was fun for me in one playthrough, but it's so good I consider it cheating now.

With Logan's Loophole, my playthrough's level locked to 30 so I never encountered the top-end Robo-Scorpions, but yeah, the ones I do encounter shrugged off the lighter calibre firearms; All-American's is pretty much useless against them.

My char build is focused more on melee/unarmed so I do have the option to fight up close. Even then, those robo-scorpions took a lot of beating and my char won't last long if I just berserker charge into a group of them ...

However, in tight quarters (like the ambush @ X-13), my char could handle 2-3 at once thanks to Super-Slam; she was swinging the Protonic Inversion Axe and kept stunning or knocking them down in turn so they rarely had the opportunity to attack her. They do take a lot of swings to go down but once stunned or knocked down, it was only a matter of time. Do note that with Slayer and 2x Melee Hacker, she has +40% attack speed with melee/unarmed plus Piercing Strike so ...

Logan's Loophole negates all addiction so I could trip out on all them chems and booze with no worries (plus they last twice a long!); unfortunately, I don't really take advantage of it.

Building a Robo-scorpion pet? (I'd make one myself if I had any knowledge of the G.E.C.K.)
Your character looks badass! Also, is that Rex? I thought he couldn't follow you into the Big Empty...

Anyway, here's my character, just finished Honest Hearts and crushed the White Legs!

Actually it's not Rex. He's the product of a successful gene splice in the X-8 facility. He will follow you around, but only in the facility. If you haven't played around with the gene splicer, I definitely recommend it. It seems to have no real point though, but to entertain...in the most grim sense of course!

Oh, and I really like your character. He actually looks like a real, no-$#!+ cowboy. Do you play him that way, using the Cowboy perk and only legacy firearms/dynamite and such? I actually thought about doing that sort of playthrough, in keeping with the whole NV theme, but then I couldn't use the mod weapons and Delta Armor I have grown so attached to! It's a steep price for me, but it will probably have to be done.

Roxie right? I think that was its name. You can splice any two of the following three: lobotomite, dog and robot. Gotta feel sorry for mr. Lobotobot though. Truly a dreamer!

As for Logan's Loophole, I actually thing the most powerful part about it is not leveling up the opposition. Most of the time you don't really need drugs and the best one you can have for free with Implant GRX (2) and Chemist, and it's non-addictive. But forcing your enemies to stay at level 30 while you run around with endgame gear, well, that's pretty powerful.

Roxie! Right, well I'll have to check out how to make it when I get there. First time I played through it I kind of rushed through everything because I didn't know how long the DLC would be.

I tend to stick with my trusty 44. Magnum as much as possible, but as you can see I only have about 40 bullets so I've got to save each bullet! I travel with Cass a lot so I give all my dynamite and grenades to her, as well as any decent shotgun I find. She seems pretty capable of using it if she's not running into a wall or crouched behind a boulder.

Right on!  There something about Cass!

Yeah, I load her up with dynamite as well, since I tend to hoard all the frags and plasmas.  Cool thing is she actually uses it.

Does she actually do much damage with dynamite?

Nah, not really. Dynamite is really down there on the DAM/DPS scale anyway, but I'd rather her use a plentiful resource that I tend to have in loads, since I've always villified quickly with the Powder Gangers, and contribute to the attrition of baddies at almost no cost, than sell them for the few measly caps you can get for them.

One thing I found I have to be careful with, is giving my MFC Clusters or Nuka-Nades to Raul to carry for me. I tend to use him as my pack mule (I know, I'm a monster, right?) like I normally use ED-E as my mobile explosives carrier. Well, Raul will throw the damn things like handfulls of baseballs if you don't monitor him closely. I was pretty pissed, but quickly realized it was my own darn fault. ED-E doesn't have arms, Raul does..got it...check...lesson learned. I really wanted the chew-out option after one fight in Zion, but alas, no such luck.

I'm the only one who carries premium explosives now, if ED-E isn't around! :)

Oh yeah, and I just finished OWB and Roxie got her own epilogue. Freakin' hilarious.

EDIT:  Oh, and I don't think I've ever laughed out loud with any video game like I did with Old World Blues.  There are just layers and layers of sick humor in this game.  Muggy's epilogue...BWAAAHAAA; man he's no fan of DR. 0!!

Yeah the Roxie epilogue was hilarious.

I kind of didn't like the outside area in OWB. I guess it's too much of a theme park. I like the DLC as a whole though. Great humor and it's the hardest DLC, which is a definite plus.

I don't know, I've always been attracted to the Big Empty for some reason. It's just really fits with my own peculiar personality I suppose. I wish there was more to do there to make it worthwhile to keep going back.

Now, Hopeville and the other areas of Lonesome Road? Yuk. I mean, yeah, I get the whole utter destruction scenario, but please, it's just awful and simply depressing to even pass through. I never like to tally too long in any one area of Lonesome Road...Courier's Mile goes without saying! I absolutely am enthralled with the story of Lonesome Road, but the environment (as intended) absolutely reeks of despair, and just makes you want to get it done. I'm getting ready to hit the High Road, and am already counting the minutes until I can get through the Deathclaws, Marked Men, Tunnelers, and get to Ulysses.

BTW, I tried a number of ways to bring in companions to LR, and was not able to find any way to do so. When they say you walk it alone, they truly mean it. The other three DLCs had loopholes and I found out by accident that it was even possible, and the companions really were more company/pack mules than actually useful. I haven't been able to find one for LR...and it doesn't mean enough to me to research it to any level of thoroughness.

Anyway, hope to be done with this playthrough soon.

Finished Courier' Mile...and I think I actually drug everything out of there this time.
When done, I counted 24 satchel charges 15 plasma mines and 12 frag mines I had to pick up.  (Yeah, those are the ones that didn't go off during battle!)  I mined the living hell out of that place.  Nothing could move anywhere near the entrance without running a gauntlet that had an inevitable end.

Always nice to see piles of Deathclaw carcasses, especially on the Mile.  All of these boys were sneak critical kills with .50 cal Expl rounds.  Didn't even need the mines for them.  In fact, I don't think I've had a single stand up fight with a DC yet in LR...well...except for that one dude who always spawns on top of the trailer on the High Road.

I like the LR locations myself but that's also because I really like the enemies there. They are certainly the most well-armed foes in the game.

I love the Courier's Mile too even if the green filter does get a bit annoying. When I went there last time, I did EXACTLY the same thing you did. Put mines everywhere and then ended up sniping them all with .50 cal explosive rounds. With my previous character I just cleared it all in one GRX burst without even getting hit. No mines, no sneaking. That's why I call GRX overpowered!

Anyway I don't know how you normally finish LR, but if you decide to nuke the NCR or Legion, a new area will become available that's much like the Courier's Mile, filled with irradiated Legion/NCR troopers and insane amounts of loot.

I didn't know that!  Might have to go back through and replay the end to nuke the Legion to see it. Both playthrough's I've done, I've aborted the launch with ED-E.  Wow, still learning new things about this game all the time.

Just a tip then: If you leave ED-E alone, you can't stop the launch but you can choose to nuke the NCR, the Legion, or both. Each faction has an area that opens up if you nuke them. You get your +1 to SPECIAL no matter what you do. Oh and it goes without saying that they'll hate you if you nuke them.

Another thing that happens if you don't save ED-E is that you get the Lonesome Road perk that gives you a bonus when you have no followers (higher damage and accuracy). And even if you do not save ED-E in LR, the real ED-E is fine and still gets the Camerader-E bonuses.

Makes sense now. Looking at the map, Long 15 and Dry Wells are the only two areas on the map I haven't unlocked. Duh.

Yep, going back through and nuking the Legion to experience it all. I have a save just prior to the launch abort.

The one thing I didn't like about the nuking of NCR or the Legion was how the heck did they know. There was no one there to tell them. But that being said I enjoyed LR.

Yeah, I agree with you guys. I think I read the consensus theory on other boards that NCR and Legion have scouts everywhere and there's nothing you do that either faction doesn't know about.

That's just handwaving it all away if you ask me; ED-E would sniff out anything within a country mile of you.

And for heck of it, I decided to fight the Hoover Dam battle with the lightest armor (but, highly augmented critical chance) I've worn since being a level 5:  Ulysses Duster, 1st Recon Beret and Lucky Shades.

Only carried three weapons and fistful of MFC Nades.  The Great Khans actually showed up with the Brotherhood.  It was a good way to end it all.

It was a breeze just coming off LR.
