Yeah, the hyperbole going around about it being the best DLC ever made etc (not here but on Twitter).... people need to get out more.Leinadi wrote...
Anyways, I tend to like my Fallout fairly down-to-earth and more rooted in the post-apoc feel of Fallout 1 rather than the very heavy 50s vibe so Old World Blues is my least favorite New Vegas DLC so far. But even so, I still find it an extremely fun experience on its own and supremely well-written. The underlying story is also quite clever in many ways. But I think it kinda lacked the impact because of the silly tone the DLC has.
Anyway, I'm currently stuck in the high school. I've retrieved all three student records, but none of the doors will open, the force field is up and I can't get into the room with the Protectron which I'm pretty sure is where I need to go. I can't get back out. What the hell am I supposed to do?
Sorry but I take issue with this... surely if people wanted to better educate themselves in the quality of dlc out there they would be better served by staying inside?

And they're the same cost?....Seriously?
EDIT: I've logged in 21 hours on Big MT thus far, and have just completed the X-8 Research facility requirements and "All my friends have off switches" quest. I am a notorious scrounger/repairer/crafter in the FO universe though and spend an inordinate amount of time in my inventory. I had 199 hours with NV/Dead Money/Honest Hearts prior to starting OWB.

Old World Blues is my favorite Fallout DLC now. Longer than the Fallout 3 DLC's combined, lots of interesting loot, great locations and funny, memorable characters. The only gripes I have are with how hard it is at high levels and how it makes me want Lonesome Road now. I'm really interested in what Ulysses wants and what happened at the Divide.

The stories in DM and OWB are awesome in very different ways. HH is a bit weak compared, and the Burned Man dissappointed me some, but it's more of a sandbox exploration enviroment. The tale of the Survivor overshadowed the main HH plot for me.

Yeah, HH was fairly unremarkable...but I did like it. Seemd a bit disjointed from the storylines developed between DM and OWB. Not on the level of OWB, but a fairly decent offering imo. I can't tell you how many times I restarted that beginning sequence trying to snipe all the enemies in a vain attempt to save all those folks you were travelling with. Was looking for more out of the Burned Man myself.

@Barbarossa2010 Yeah I was suprised they're the same price. Also 199 hours? How?

Honestly, I don't really know how I rack up that much time, but I do tend to get lost in the game and spend hours just exploring with zero focus on quests at times. I like to try and find every discoverable area and thoroughly explore and loot each (a pastime that is well rewarded in the FO universe). I do waste time, compared to others, in the game I'm sure. If I'm looking for a specific item, I'll quick travel across the map until I find it. I'll make up my own missions like eradicating all Deathclaws or some such thing. I like to back track alot, like in the case of the Raider camp just to the West or SW of NV, just to see if there is a respawning limit for the baddies, farming XP. So I suppose all these sorts of things add up. I like to swim too, and spend some time doing that also, because its usually worth the effort.
Onto OWB; I agree, the difficulty was ramped up quite a bit for combat and non-combat skills. Of course, most couriers are probably level 40 or above, so they're probably hitting most of the non-combat skills checks and can compensate with augmentation for those they don't. It's the combat that has gotten a bit more wicked no matter the perks and combat skills leveling it seems. The same enemies you meet on Big MT that are in the base game have gotten HP injections or critical chance has been tinkered with, or a combo of both, or something. Just my opinion there, but that was one of the first things I noticed...not to mention the swarming effect (thinking Robo-scorpions and Nightstalkers here) of engagements with multiple enemies kicked into high gear. Enemies definitely do more damage and the cumulative effect of getting hit from multiple directions really adds up (negatively for the player). Lobotomites are easy to kill, but three or four of them together just seem to shred you to pieces.
All fights in OWB seem to take down your HP quickly, no matter your armor. There were times when I'd be in a fight and look down at my HP bar only to find I was on the verge of death. I don't even realize that I'm taking such a beating, until its almost too late. I've free-gunned more than I have at any other time. I'll usually shoot a couple of rounds in VATS with an AMR then switch to shotgun/grenades and just start blasting point blank. Have never used so many grenades. Sneak attack and distance sniping is something I've come to rely on like never before either.
They've definitley ratcheted up the difficulty, most likely to compensate for the higher levels most players are at, at this point. Like I said before, this is definitely not for a low-level courier. I don't know how a level 15 would get through the game.
Still can't praise it enough for $10.

Honest Hearts has been my favorite DLC so far, but I seem to like the ones no one else does- Operation Anchorage was my favorite in FO3.
Thus far the story in OWB reminds me of Point Lookout, though I liked the atmosphere in PL more.

Oh I am right there with you. Old school Fallouts it was search every square. FO3 max level before even walking into Rivet City and same goes for New Vegas before ever getting there. I then get bothered and remove those caps....
But anyway I am loving this DLC.

Use the Cyberdog K9000 against them, for poetic justice. High DPS is a must.Addai67 wrote...
I've been shredded numerous times by nightstalkers. They're fast replacing ME husks as my most hated enemy. I didn't bring enough bombs and mines.

I suppose it follows: Legendary Deathclaws, Legendary Cazadors, and Legendary Nightstalkers would give way to Legendary Bloatflies later?!
Interesting to note that Dr. Borous was the mutator/creator of Cazadors and Nightstalkers though.
EDIT: That Youtube video was...well...interesting. Legendary Bloatfly: King of the Wasteland. Wow.

SPOILER:
Run into the stealthed Nightstalkers yet...irritating little s#!+s that they are? Or done the stealth challenge in X-13? I actually entertained myself for awhile trying to complete the whole challenge...you get all upgrades for the stealth suit out of it.

Probably a topic for the New Vegas thread that's buried somewhere around here, though. No use talking about it in an OWB discussion thread.

Not as far as I know. They've done a very good job seeding interest for Lonesome Road, for me at least. Can't think of another DLC I've anticipated more, really excited to see what happens.

By that logic surely the OWB thread would also go into the FONV thread

Well, I destoyed Mobius (not intending to, but I must have clicked the wrong dialogue option in there somewhere) and have the Think Tank working for me. Thought about replaying the end to let Mobius and the TT live, but decided to leave it be.
Really like being able to fast travel in and out of Big MT. I have ton of stuff hoarded there, and don't feel like hauling it back to my three safehouses in NV. Plus the CIU in the Sink has about 40,000 caps worth of inventory, and all the devices have their upgrades so...
Won't tell you how many hours I have in it, but safe to say, OWB played almost like a stand alone game, and I only paid $10 for it. Best value yet. Hats off to Obsidian/Bethesda on this one.
Cannot wait for Lonesome Road. Thought LR was teed up well at the end.
EDIT: Did anyone else expect to see Christine back in there somewhere? I don't know why, but expected her to show up. Sort of missed her after finding her armor and sniper rifle.

I want to play this, but I can't
bring myself to re-buy New Vegas on Steam (original physical disc got
destroyed in a CPU malfunction). It's a frustrating game. Good, but I
mean... I've beaten it.
Perhaps you can find a cheap used copy? Unlike a certain other game (
