Man, I forgot how damn hard Vault 34 was. My third time around, and I was about as unprepared as a noob going in, thinking I'd just breeze through it. I was sick as a dog with radiation, having to back track a number of times since I'd long forgot how to gain access to the armory, and was just plain beat all to hell by those high level ferals, as a level 15.

...but I got All-American.

Hell, I think I'll go clear out Quarry Junction.

The constant radiation really stresses you out and makes it hard to find the way into the armory.

I don't go in there anymore without a ton of RadAway.

Updated Weapon's Mods List:

I think I've gone through and tried and tested just about everything that would fit in with my own personal New Vegas scheme, and these are what I've settled on.  No TLDR included here (except for a few notes on new mods), so read the descriptions on the Nexus, DL, and see if you're as impressed with them as I am.  Great textures, great sounds, great effects (in most cases--nothing's perfect after all):

Barrett 98B with BORS Optics:  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/46432

Tactical Combat Set (Heckler and Koch):  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/36500

Mossberg 590 Shotgun:  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/36407

Rechamber - 12 gauge Lever Action Shotgun:  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/42762

44 Desert Eagle VII Limited Vegas Edition:  Clearly, to me at least, the best of all D-Eagle mods.  Now, if only I could dual wield them!  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/38539

10mm Pistol - USP Match Replacement:  Really just a re-skin of all 10mm pistols in game, but does give you a far, far superior iron sight.  A personal preference and nitpick mod.
http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/36973

Browning Auto-5 (Frontier Shotgun) - Finally, a good, and I mean GOOD, 20 gauge shotgun, that you actually WILL use.  Really good for those maintaining a cowboy playstyle in the game:  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/47064

HK 416 Pack:  Low DAM, but very, very high DPS (as it should be).  Includes a number of 416's in the pack with different attachments.  Choose your poison: http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/47041

M-14:  Yes Please!  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/35041

M-24 Sniper Riflehttp://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/45635

Remington 870 Sawed-Off - (870 Shorty):  You will like: http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/47255

Other:

Weapon Mods Expanded – WMX
:  If I could recommend a single weapons mod add-on, it would be this one.  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/39651

Mojave Gun Nuts: Turns a few of the stores in the Mojave into something gun goons would be interested in, visually and inventory-wise.  http://newvegas.nexu....com/mods/45477

So got back to playing New Vegas again:

Meet Ulric:
http://cloud-2.steam...76.resizedimage
10 INT, and a massive smarty pants, who can also kick your ass ten ways from yesterday

http://cloud.steampo...76.resizedimage
Who also takes packing heat to a whole new level.

He is going to be my Yes Man character.
Also my first Wild Wasteland character too.

HOLY HAND GRENADES!

http://cloud-2.steam...76.resizedimage

Also respect the stache or be destroyed.
By the end of the game I will have used up the NCR to beat on the Legion, and have set up an independat Vegas. Its going to be fun for sure.

Dude, that is going to be a great playthrough. An independent NV is as it should be; and Wild Wasteland is a blast.  And yes, I like the stache...the hats?...not so much!Posted Image

Nothing quite like cleaving Powder Gangers with an edged weapon, huh?

If you're going for a guns build, be sure to pick up an M-14 and the Mossberg 590 mods. You will be one happy courier.

I've been playing a little Skyrim lately.  I think its time to get back to my Courier.

Boone and I, playing the bounty hunters in New Vegas Bounties on the last playthrough.  About the closest I ever got to being a cowboy in NV.

I made my most recent character have really high intelligence as well...and I also did Wild Wasteland for the first time.

I just about died when I ran into the old ladies in Freeside, that came after me with rolling pins (Maud's Muggers). Posted Image

Do you normally play a high Charisma, Diplomatic type with high IN?  Just curious, because I've never built a character outside of Guns, Explosives, Melee.  Don't really have a clue what high IN gives you outside of speech checks and...well...OK, just about everything in Old World Blues.

And yeah, when the old ladies attacked with rolling pins, as I came out the door, I was almost too stunned to shoot!...ALMOST that is... Posted Image

^ What killed me is that we ran into them after retrieving Fisto for James Garrett...I mean, his client...*cough*

Later on, Rex alerted us to Little Jimmy in the well. Aroo?

High Intelligence impacts the number of skill points you get each level, some dialogue options, and increases Medicine, Repair, and Science. I do also pick high Charisma. They've heard about me and my honeyed words.

Really, I just wanted to be a smarty pants this time around.

You can also CORRECT a guys Latin too.
10 INT basically means you are one of the smartest people walking about the wastes.

Plus getting 17 skill points a level is always nice.
Now if you can excuse me I have to go exterminate some Legion bastards.

OK, so basically you get to walk around the mojave with a gigantic head.  Got it! Posted Image

Villifying with the Legion early is the coolest.  If you can do it with Vulpes and his cronies in Nipton as a level 3 and actually survive Legion attacks the rest of the game, you are a badass.

Boone

Low INT also gets different dialogue- like the Mister Handy at the robot factor offering you ice cream because he thinks you're a little kid.  lol

Boone is great, and I always find myself carry him around as a companion. Just be careful carrying him into Legion-heavy lands if you're neutral. I had waited to villify with the Legion on this current playthrough, and stumbled upon a Legion patrol in the SE of the map, who I was going to ignore, that is....until all hell broke loose, and I remembered who my current companion was. Needless to say, my neutrality with the Legion is no longer! Eh, I need the good loot anyway and my EXP score is good, and my 25mm APW is fully upgraded.

Having said that, my Courier's tend to be total dudes, and there's something about that Whiskey Rose. She says, and my Courier does. He has no compunction whatsoever about tearing down the Silver Rush (great loot, am I right?) and making that "b!+ch" Gloria Van Graff "eat her hair" or despite the heavy hit an NCR character might take, whacking Alice McLafferty, who would otherwise seem a comely, genteel old woman.

I like 'em both, that's why I modded on "Companion Menagerie."

That's actually why I started a new playthrough. In my previous one, I'd botched things up for Boone and Arcade Gannon (by doing quests early, that I should have brought them along on).

...plus the Legion was vilified before I even got to the Strip, due to Boone being along for the ride. That made things a little difficult. Posted Image

Before I got to the strip:
I made friends in Goodsprings, Novac, with the NCR, and some Khans, and some ghouls.
Plus I wiped out Nelson and Cottonwood Cove, and kill Vulpes.

And lots of Powder Gangers.
Mostly with a Flamer.

I swear burning things down with ye olde torchy never gets old. Just roasting and toasting mooks left and right. Having Boone and EDE along really help too.

I swear EDE is like Mini-Death Star or something.

I am too much of a powergamer to go for high int. Last character started out with 3. With the implant, you get the normal dialogue options and can still quite easily max skills. If you really need to pass an int check, you can use Mentats along with the glasses and scrubs from OWB.

That said, should be good fun to play a high int character.

Giggles,

You have got to ally the Khans with the NCR. That was the most epic playthrough I did. To see the Khans show up at the Dam, ask for instructions and tell the Courier they have his back during the final battle was pretty damn awesome.

Of course, if you are a Wild Card, you can just ally them with...well...you.

That is my Courier's ultimate goal.

Rebuild a true power, a real modern, powerful, and competent nation without the insanity of the other people.

The other thing I have to say.

Whether playing The Chosen One, The Vault Dweller, the Lone Wanderer, or the Courier I have one thing I enjoy.

Its playing a person who actually gives a damn about humanity, and does their best to make it safe again.

As your brain says in Old World Blues: "Well...I do sort of miss that rush we got when we ran off to save the day"

I had an NCR character and was considering going wild card on my current one, but I think she's going to side with House (I probably won't ever finish her game though... I know some people like those ending credits and the sense of completion but not me).

House is an egomaniac but he is the one who saved Vegas and I prefer his soulless, hands-off capitalism to the NCR's expansionism.  I think it's good for the NCR to get its nose bloodied and sent back across the Divide to fix its own problems.

I haven't ever been able to get the Khans to ally with me, though- they always end up leaving.

I actually tripped into it on the last playthrough. I was hardcore NCR on that one, and COL Moore had dispatched me to Red Rock to force the Khans to leave the mojave or destroy them.

Well, in a chance dialogue option with one of Papa Khan's Lieutenants (can't remember which, but it is the one who always sits to Papa's right in the meeting house), I was given a dialogue option to question him further only to find out that he wasn't happy with Papa's un-progressive leadership; and the rest panned out with my Courier assassinating Papa K in his sleep with the promise that the lieutenant as the new chief would partner with the NCR against the Legion. I had to kill the Legion rep as well IIRC.

I agree on House. To me he is the second best option, but he is still not laissez faire enough for me in the the most ideal sense. The only real option for me is Wild Card from that angle. Of course, that begs the risk/reward argument of freedom vice security. Honestly, it's just not something my Courier worries about, being that the power amibitious tend to be his targets, rather than his role models.

Really all that matters for me is that all sides are good and bad for their own reason.

The Legion: Order at the cost of oppression
Mr. House : Security, at the cost of an eternal dictator
NCR : Prosperity at the cost of a bloated state
Wild Card : Freedom at the cost of anarchy.

THAT is good writing since it makes you think, and weigh all the options.
Shame that...well very few people even consider the Legion at all.

It seems racism, sexism, raping, slaving, and imperialism ****** people off.
Even though the NCR and House are both as brutal in getting what they want.

Sometimes I see the Wild Card ending as simply saying "Screw you guys none of you are worthy"
I mean honestly the journey to the strip showcases each faction amazingly, and already gets the basic idea going.

Its just a shame that joining the Legion comes at the cost of Boone.
Or getting an epic headshot from that tree right into the slaving bastard's skull:
http://cloud.steampo...76.resizedimage

The Courier: "This is what happens when you offend a man who has a keen understanding of the applied affects of supersonic projectiles to the cranium's of unsuspecting bastards"

I always imagine that my 10 Int courier takes way to long to say things most times.
