Well the Romans of all people were good at turning enemies into assets. It naturally has its risks. lol

I do enjoy saying "SIC SEMPER TYRANIS!"
Poor Caesar he honestly invited his own death on himself.

Like Ulysses said you prove his very ideology a sham by doing so.,

Also...I am noticing that my current courier is developing almost a scary level of directness.
He literally destroys anything that gets in his way with little concern.

Like Benny.
"Hi Benny" -opens up with a shotgun-
Seriously I could see him becoming a tyrant like House one day.

Unfortunately they come across as little more than macho, slaving dumbasses, devoid of any real vision of civilization, who are so bassackward and regressive as to think it a societal mark of honor, even noble, to willfully charge gun toting crackshots with sticks and rocks. At least high level legionaires have the decency to attack you with 12.7's, carbines, and assault rifles.

I think that's kind of the point, honestly. It's pretty strongly hinted at that without Caeser, the Legion will fall apart, and that while the society he's constructed from his learning as a Follower of the Apocalypse can pacficy the wasteland and pose a threat to other large societies, it's not a viable method for long-term governing. Historically a lot of empires were that way, inasmuch as being held together mostly by a single indivudal's force of will.

Yeah, it certainly seems the point.  And that's what I thought groups like the Fiends were for.  They are an easy gravitational center around which virtually all (but the Legion it would seem) could find agreement in their destruction.  Strange thing is, a tweak here and there, and the Legion could have been a viable option and a legit choice for factioning as opposed to merely the throw away choice, or the obvious choice for a "bad guy/gal" character.

Why any female Courier would join them is beyond me.  How many female Legionaire's were you ever attacked by if villified?  It may well be the point, but I would say it was not a very good one.  The Legion gives virtually no reason to side with them.

This simple inclusion of Ulysses as the "Boone" companion of the Legion, and doing a better job at properly presenting the "purity of Legion justice" would probably have been enough to do so....although I will say I like Ulysses/Courier connection throughout the entire story as it occurred in the shipped game.  As it is, the Legion is a major faction who is merely a toss away without a second thought, automatically hate, option.  Should've been more to them as the opposition to the NCR.

Oh, but you have to seduce Benny if you're a Black Widow. It's a must.

@ Barbarossa- Well you know they had much bigger plans for the Legion, right? It got cut due to development time. Bethesda's fault. They were not very supportive of Obsidian and I'm wondering if they were worried about being showed up- which they largely were.

Yeah, if they'd been able to stay with the original plan as I understand it, the Legion would have been a slightly more attractive option. Sort of timely we're talking about it, Steam's Recent News is showcasing PC Gamer's article on Moburma's forensic study of New Vegas cut content and resulting mods on Nexus.

I kind of old hope for the NCR a bit.

They beat the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, various Raiders, and the Legion in many cases.
Honestly if they focus more on building up, instead of building out they will do much better.

Still the Enclave is no more, and probably only Lyons and the Capital Wasteland branch will last for the Brotherhood.

I guess in a way what made up the old world is making way for the new world.

One name you don't hear about is John Gonzalez. He wrote most of the core story and my absolute favorite plot, the Survivalist letters. He's working on an unnamed game for Warner Brothers since 2011. Maybe a Batman sequel? Not my cup of tea really but I would look at any game he's worked on.

Next time I get back into New Vegas I'm going to have to try out the Restored Content mod. Not unlike most games, NV had a ton of cut content and this mod restores a bunch.

Yeah I haven't used those because he says only to use them on completely new games, and I've been "finishing" my Great Khan character for months. Also I've had bad experiences with large renovation mods. But I would like to try it.

edit- Wow, reading all the plans they had for Freeside and the Strip that had to be abandoned for technical reasons as well as time is kind of sad, too.   Still, they did an amazing job in the time they had.

You were supposed to be able to get a Brahmin follower who you didn't realize was following you. lol

From what I've heard about an open Freeside and even moreso, an open Strip, they are terribly taxing on systems, and absolutely must go on new saves if your going to try them. There was good reason evidently for sectioning off those particular areas from what was originally developed.

Although if you have a good enough system, they're supposedly quite worth adding on.

Lol, you were originally meant to be able to seduce Mr. House as a female character- you'd enter a pod and be "scanned" in a VR pod. Dirty old man. Heh. With unique dialogue from Raul where he tells you that House used to scan women's brains and make them dress up in different clothes instead of having sex. That makes sense with the dialogue you get from his Securitron doll. Creepy.

They had a quest where you could undergo the Khan initiation ritual.  So sad that got cut.  :crying:

Reading about all of this cut content really makes me wish they had a few more months to work on the game.

Yep. You read all that too I see. Yeah, House was actually supposed to be a real living, breathing character.  I'm sorta glad he showed up the way he was. A Brahman companion?....They couldn't have been serious. Although the boost to carry weight would have been pure win!  And ditto on the Khan initiation.

The one thing I've always been a little peeved about was that you couldn't become a Ranger with an NCR aligned character.  Always thought that was out of place.

Some of that stuff is sorta creepy though. No telling what else they had up their sleeves.

The Brahmin character would have been great if you wanted to roleplay a trader.

Rumor is that FO4 is set in Boston. I find that blah myself.

Yeah, we'll see, but Boston seems probably about right. Yeah, it's quite meh.

I always wanted to play the trader/broker. They really ought to build in the mechanics for it. Having NPCs approach you for trade is probably gameplay problematic though. It would be cool to establish whatever prices you wanted and learn the hard lessons of economy, when an NPC tells you, "nah, I can get my weapons cheaper at ..."

Oh sweet merciful Talos I hope that is true!

Remember the Fallout 3 quest? The Replicated Man?
Boston is part of the Commonwealth now, but MIT became something called the Institute.

Apparently where true scientific research goes on and where AI and Androids are created.
With an underground railroad, and secret police battling it out for AI rights.

That sounds interesting really.
It kind of seems that the Black Isle/Obsidian Fallout's are West Coast.
While the Bethesda Fallout's are East Coast.

I've been favoring my F3 playthrough as of late, so forgive me that this isn't exactly NV related.

I like the idea of a Brahmin follower (as long as I can get armor for it, hehe), but one thing I always longed for in Fallout 3 was a Yao Guai follower. I keep running into scavengers that have one, and with the Animal Friend perk, I get to see the cute and cuddly side of them. If nothing else, I wish I could heal them. I found one near one of the sat com relays, that kept getting attacked by, well, pretty much everything. First it was a Robobrain, then a giant Radscorpion, then Raiders. That poor thing just couldn't catch a break.

Death Claws on the other hand - phew! I stumbled upon an Enclave encampment last night, but didn't see any actual Enclave soldiers...until I got closer, and realized that they'd all been killed by Death Claws. Then I see a door nearby - yeah, it's the Death Claw Sanctuary. Serves those Enclave turds right. I did pat myself on the back a bit by clearing out all the Death Claws in Old Oldney earlier in the night.

It's pretty funny how in the beginning of both games, you're cash poor, and it takes a while to make decent money - then you reach a point where you have more money than you could possibly spend. In Fallout 3, I have more ammo and cash than I could possibly use. But I sure am trying.

Edit: @Giggles - I just did that quest a couple of nights ago. Normally, I'd kill the old geezer and his lackey myself, but this time, I let Harkness do it. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

So looking at the New Vegas DLC I am trying to make the right order to do them in:

Old World Blues
Dead Money
Honest Hearts
Lonesome Roads

Old World Blues talks about the other ones, introduces us to the other character's and ties into the main story line pretty well.
I still hate the enemies in them though.

Filled with nothing but Demonic Spiders.
Tunnelers, Roboscorpions, marked men, that stupid mist and ghost people.

Dont get me wrong I have fun, but dying in just a few hits really gets me mad.

I haven't played any of the New Vegas DLC yet (crazy, I know). I'm going to try them in the order you've listed. I must admit, I'm a bit worried about the enemies now!

The easiest DLC is Honest Hearts.
The Hardest is a tie between the other three.

Dont rush into combat EVER.
Honestly the best thing to do is to sneak and try and take things slowly.

Especially in Lonesome Road.
Trust me when I say that beating it, is worthy of making you badass.
Cause if you are not...you die very messily.

Oh, great. I'll make sure my Courier goes into it badassfully. I've got a long way to go, though, since I just started a new character recently.

Did I hear that there are new followers with the DLCs?

Yes for all of them.

Except that in Honest Hearts except for one they are so freaking annoying and useless its not funny.

I usually play the DLC as Honest Hearts, Dead Money, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. I think the difficulty progression is about right with that. Although it also depends on your character. Mine is a melee survivalist so she benefitted a lot from HH and it gave her more time to build up a little science skill for OWB.

I realize they would be highlighting the Institute if it's set in Boston, but... Boston. How boring can you get.

edit- The HH followers aren't useless?  I like both of them.  Especially that lady with her yao guai hand.  Talk to the hand!
