Yao Guai hand? Now this I've got to see...or maybe not. She didn't kill one and take its paw, did she? Posted Image

I agree - Boston? Are there actually any landmarks there? Seemed kind of cement-y, the one time I drove through it. I wonder if being in that part of the country will bring a new england dialect to the game. Hehe.

There are lots of not-nice yao guai in Zion. You said you have the animal friend perk? That will be most useful, but... hm, I won't spoil but there are certain quests involving yao guai you might not like.

Honest Hearts sometimes gets a bad rap but I think it's brilliant, not just the atmosphere but the story when taken together with the Survivalist letters.

According to the wiki: "Although yao guai in Fallout 3 are affected by Animal Friend, the Zion yao guai are not."

That makes me a little sad, but I understand how it would probably make things a little too easy.

In terms of difficulty HH is the easiest...then comes Dead Money, OWB, and LR in order of increasing combat difficulty. You will be fine...as long as you are over level 25 going in. Definitely recommend Honest Hearts first.

I won't lie to you, there is no playing around in Lonesome Road. It's hard, and just accept it gong in. I recommend a sniping/sneaking approach with a .50 cal Anti-Materiel Rifle and a ton of Explosive rounds...oh, and a Flare Gun and shotgun for up-close and personal encounters (you'll know when you need to use them). There are some signature/gimmick weapons in each DLC. I'll leave it up to you whether you actually find them useful. The DLC weapons in DM are probably the most dramatically useful, due to gameplay reasons.

The DLC difficulty is offset by great story elements and very interesting environments; especially Old World Blues and LR imo.

I usually play the DLC as Honest Hearts, Dead Money, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. I think the difficulty progression is about right with that. Although it also depends on your character. Mine is a melee survivalist so she benefitted a lot from HH and it gave her more time to build up a little science skill for OWB.

I realize they would be highlighting the Institute if it's set in Boston, but... Boston. How boring can you get.

edit- The HH followers aren't useless?  I like both of them.  Especially that lady with her yao guai hand.  Talk to the hand!

LOL, yeah I always called her "Talks with Her Fist!"

Oh, I didn't know that, but it makes sense.  The wildlife being hostile is kind of important to some of the plot so I can see why they did that, besides combat balance.

I actually find Dead Money and OWB are comparable in terms of combat difficulty.  Some of those OWB enemies are pretty tough.  Dead Money is a lot easier with sneak, crafting and melee- no surprise for a survival type DLC.

Lonesome Road is definitely a hard haul.  On my 1st, unprepared game, I had fewer stimpaks left over than I've ever had for a late-game Fallout character.

Ah, memories- all of those DLC are so good and they offer such a varied experience to round out the game.  This is such a great RPG.

I simply ADORE how your skills come into play.

In Old World Blues? Science and Intelligence
In Honest Hearts? Speech and Survival
In Dead Money? Its tons of skills from Sneak, to Perception, to Medicine, etc. Even explosives
In Lonesome Road? Its more your ability to use all your skills.

I enjoyed the DLC since they both tie into the main game, and into each other.

Especially since I could bring the Holorifle and Police Pistol out to play.

Fallout Vegas was soooo well done. It's one of my top 10, my go to when I feel like being irradiated. Love me some Hardcore mode, even though Dead Money owned me! lol

Yeah, I remember scrambling around first time playing OWB scrounging for Mentants and Scrubs, because my IN and Science scores were exceptionally...average.  I loved it. I was finally forced to use a skill I had pretty much used as a throw away so I could stack the hell out of guns and critical chance.  Thank the Maker for augments.

BTW, I would not recommend trying to play OWB and LR as a level 50 the first time through them.  I levelled far too quickly on my previous playthrough and ended up playing all DLCs as a level 50.  Well, needless to say the enemies scale, and combat was (as somebody previously put it) hard as balls.  Good news though; before I hit level 50 Addai told me about Mad Bomber, so at least I could craft Nuka Nades and MFC Clusters (which are beyond awesome!)...so, I had that going for me.

Just got done clearing Nelson, because my NCR rep was really lagging after Whiskey Rose (again) convinced me to whack Alice McLafferty.

And there's ol' Boone giving me one of my favorite lines in the game.  Things are again right and good in the Mojave.

Posted Image That's awesome.

And Cass...I remember way back in my first playthrough, mistakenly bringing her with me into the Silver Rush...that turn of events was upsetting. Good thing I'd saved beforehand.

Hehe. Nearly like that line as much as Vulpes reaction when you tell him that you'll wear his head like he wears that of the dog.

Scaring Vulpes Inculta. Didn't thought that such a thing was possible :D

Okay, how do you get that line with Vulpes, and when? In Nipton when you first meet? Unfortunately, I rarely talk to Legionaires, but that really sounds cool since Vulpes is probably the guy I despise most in New Vegas.

@happy_daiz: tearing down the Van Graffs is one of the highlights of any of my games. Even removing Cass from the situation; Firstly, I don't use energy weapons, so I don't need their stock; 2, you suffer no rep hit apparently in Free Side by taking them down, and 3: DA LOOT!

Even if you use energy weapons, you do not need their stock. Only very early, and there you can just use guns instead.

I think you get that line with Vulpes in Nipton if you have the Terrifying Presence perk.

And yeah, for anybody not in the know, I think the Van Graff weapon selection gets moved to the Gun Runner vendor a while after you wipe them out if I remember correctly.

I'm currently replaying the game for the umpteenth time. This time going with Caesar's Legion frumentarius style type of character (smooth-talking, sneaky). Selling out Arcade to Caesar, aw yeah.

You can tell Vulpes you are going to wear his head like a hat if you have the Terrfying Presence perk.
I wanted to say "RIP AND TEAR" but cant win em all.

Never used it. Well, I've already passed that point anyway, so I'll have to wait until the next playthrough. Good to know. Too bad really. I usually make a beeline for Vulpes upon entering Caesar's tent, after I cross the Colorado with Boone, so I still have that to look forward to in this current run. I'll make sure to get a good screen shot of my Courier turning that creep into goo.

Hmm I just found a good RP reason to not move the main stuff ahead.

My courier never found the Platinum Chip you see, Benny did not have it on him.
Oops.

So he will tell House and the NCR that he will go look for it.
After wiping out threats to his new regime.

With a smart enough Courier I bet New Vegas would be a pretty powerful destination and eventually an ally of the NCR. Once they learn to keep their hands to themselves.

The King of course would be part of the whole thing, maybe poach Hsu and some NCR people.
Just have to wipe out a half dozen or so factions....

I've reinstalled FONV last week. So far, I've noticed that it doesn't crash as much as it did when I last played it. After my current playthrough, maybe I'll try playing a low INT character siding with the Legion.

Any tips on how to get a LOT of money fast? I just got the anti materiel rifle and the ammo for it is EXPENSIVE.

I find myself using energy weapons constantly in Fallout 3...well, since I progressed the main quest to a point where the Enclave keeps showing up. I don't know why, but I have always gravitated towards their Tesla Armor and Plasma Rifles anyway. After a point, you get a seemingly limitless supply. Last night, we turned on Liberty Prime and messed up the Enclave pretty good. I sent Fawkes into the purifier...he was always a better hero than my LW anyway.

I'm getting closer! Just need to finish up this playthrough, so I can focus on NV before Borderlands 2 comes out. Posted Image

I usually have to force myself to wait on the Van Graffs. I have many memories of getting smoked by them; probably because I always try taking them out super early. I just want Cass to be happy, dang it.

Aww, poor Arcade. He's kinda dorky during combat, but one of my favorite followers of NV. He's got quite a sense of humor.

Arcade does have one of the higher DPS of companions.

Behind EDE though.
What else can you expect from the spawn of a Dalek and the Death Star?

I would recommend tramping back and forth on the West side of New Vegas, in and around Vault 3, and get into as many fights with fiends as possible.  They're any easy fight, so you don't have to waste your 50 MG ammo on them, but they drop decent loot and there's alot of them.  They tend to respawn quickly as well.  Just loot all their armor and weapons, and repair it up to high condition, quick travel; sell.  Rinse/Repeat.  There's probably better schemes, but when I'm short on caps, I head for Fiend territory.

OR...

EDIT:

If you're high level, villify with the Legion and track through the Souteastern part of the map .  You'll get hit alot and high level Legionaires drop the best weapons and loot.  Assassin squads always drop 12.7s, and Marksman and Assualt carbines that can be reconditioned (using your weapon repair kits) for big caps.

^ That's a good tip, and one I'll probably be employing once I'm back into New Vegas. Thanks!

I scrapped my previous playthrough, due to being vilified by the Legion so early on. I guess I was thinking that would mess up my ability to get the chip. Can you still get into Caesar's camp if you're Vilified? Or does that just mean lots of carnage?

Lots of carnage.
Glorious, exciting, flashy, explosive, wonderful carnage.

There is STILL nothing as fun as wiping out that Legion camp, with Boone and EDE.

"THUMBS DOWN YOU SON OF A ****!" Haha.
I am saving a Holy Hand Grenade just to chuck it at Caesar.

"COUNT TO THREE ****!"

Okay...I need to go to a therapist.
I think I am turning into a Khorne worshiper.
