The game also apparently runs better in windowed mode, surprisingly enough. There's a couple different mods out there that can fake-fullscreen; I use Game Companion.

Ugh, I really hate that they didn't get rid of Gamebryo sooner, that engine is too old and buggy.

It's pretty amazing it lasted for as long as it did, honestly (especially when Beth had to rely on its community to make the people look worth a damn).

I would do unspeakable things to see Obsidian develop a New Vegas sequel on Skyrim's engine. Seems like it wouldn't be hard to adapt the half of Van Buren that didn't make it into New Vegas into a sequel set 20 or so years after F:NV.

I hope that's exactly what happens, I won't be too fond of Fallout 4 if Bethesda makes it, it will undoubtedly fail with the story, the characters and the atmosphere, areas with which with Obsidian did a wonderful job and could have made an even better job if the deadline hadn't gotten in the way . At least they left things well enough so that modders could restore it.

Well I think a New Vegas 2 is what a lot of people are hoping for after Urquhart's and Todd Howard's comments about the possibility. If that happens AND it's done on a better engine, then large parts of two more years of my life can be considered "Do Not Disturb!"

Perhaps they'll pull another Bethesda sequel (showcasing a new [or at least dramatically improved]engine), and then back it up again two years later with another Obsidian NV game. Who the hell knows at this point, but man that's just money in the bag if you ask me...and they've got to know it. Look at how insanely well Skyrim has done, and the gaming world (well, at least I am) is ravenous for another.

If Bethsoft just keeps on their side of the Mississippi, I can't ultimately be too upset with it, honestly the main reason I've come to like Fallout 3 less than I used to is because F:NV blew it out of the water. The gameplay will be solid and they'll at least be good with visually designing the Wasteland.

I think that's also the reason why I came to dislike Fallout 3, had there been no New Vegas, I don't think I'd be saying anything. However, Bethesda should keep things like Damage Threshold, weapon mods and other FNV additions in the next game.

Don't forget deep crafting (hot plates, crafting bench, reloading bench, and fire). It's a gotta have, right along with DT, DPS, extended inventory weapons and weapon mods, survival, factioning...hell I could go on and on.

But deep crafting is an expectation in FO now since New Vegas. Remember how shallow the entire crafting mechanism was in FO3? New Vegas was a whole other ballgame. Everything found could be used. And it got better and better as the DLCs came out. The way it should be.

They do have a very good crafting system in Skyrim, I don't think there's any reason why they won't have one in FO4.

I really liked the crafting system in New Vegas. It gave useless items value aside from being Rock-it launcher ammo and trading junk. It pretty added that much-needed feeling of clinging on to anything you find in the wasteland. If only Hardcore mode was a bit better.

Thank you Barbarossa for reviving this thread. There's dozens of mods buried here I had forgotten about before you brought it back.

And in regards to Fallout 4, I hope they keep and improve upon what Obsidian did. Doing anything else would be a disservice.

YW legion. I just started playing New Vegas again, and was really taken back ny how poor my overall game looks compared to Skyrim, which I've been playing solely for some time now. Now I'm playing both, and really need some help making NV look better.

I've got all the great quest, gameplay and guns mods, but visually my game is...not so good.

Have you tried ENBs, texture packs, Nevada Skies and/or Electro-City? I haven't had any experience with the first two (it doesn't take much for me to fine with a game's aesthetics) but the latter, I feel, add to the game's look.

And bear in mind, New Vegas can't look as good as Skyrim, the engine is an outdated version of Skyrim's really.

I wish ENB presets were something that could be installed with a mod manager. I found several others besides Enhanced Shaders on the Nexus that I want to give a try, but that'll be at least an hour of shuffling files around.

I know some of those don't even have install instructions, I suppose the authors automatically assume people know how to install ENBs or something.

@legion,

I'm looking at everything right now. And, yeah, I know to curb my expectations when comparing to Skyrim, but WOW, right now it's making my eyes bleed! I've gotten quite spoiled and I know I can make it look, at least, a little better.

Right now I've only got NMCs Textures on. It looks...OK...and I'm testing through normal gameplay before I do anything else, so if a problem does arise, I can isolate ASAP. Nevada Skies is next, and then Wasteland Flora Overhaul. I'll just continue adding/deleting until it's good enough.

^Fair enough.

I wish you luck. Making sure your installs don't conflict and mess something up is tedious at best.

It is pretty amazing how far you can stretch the Gamebryo (especially when you remember that was what Morrowind ran on). You can't match Skyrim, and you can mod that even further to the point of photo realism, but you can get fairly close.

Also, like I said, I'd reccommend giving Project Reality a try. It's unfortunate the author's stopped working on it in favor of his Skyrim mod, but it's still very much a complete mod. I love the nights and the generally darker (I mean that literally, the Wasteland often looks like it's in a nuclear autumn) feel, and it goes pretty great with a winter wasteland texture pack I'll sometimes install for chuckles. Nevada Skies is great too, so it really can just come down to your shaders or mood.

Oh, and I'd suggest Essential Visual Enhancements and Weapon Retexture Project too, which are overhauls of the visuals for weapons (EVE focuses on energy weapons while WRP does guns). Makes for some very pretty firefights.

He stopped working on both actually, that author doesn't make mods anymore. I'd actually switch to Project Reality if there's something to fix that Dead Money problem, I keep having problems with Nevada Skies URWLified in which textures are always glitching. Besides, it appears there is an ENB that works with Project Reality but none that work with URWLified though, at least not now.

I use project reality on Skyrim and its pretty good, probably the best out of all weather mods.

Is the unmodded DLC worth it?

The game's shelved, I maxed cheeves then curbed it. Would anyone consider it worth a revisit if I purchase the Ultimate Ed.?

Project Reality is superior to Nevada Skies in my opinion, but it's really a matter of preference. Either way Enhanced Shaders is also pretty much a must.

Are you kidding? The rain in Project Reality looks awful. Just goddam awful. And on top of that, there's this weird bog that creates an outline around all the 3d models erasing the fog. Trust me, install Nevada Skies version 0-6 and you won't regret it.

Huh, he must have given it over to a friend or something to do maintenence or continue development on Climates of Tamriel, since it looks like it's continued to update since he posted the notice on Project Reality's page.

I -have- used both, bobo.

Yeah WRP is pretty good, and so is EVE. However if you use FOOK and/or WMX there might be some issues with WRP's retextures. There's a mod that isn't exactly about visuals but includes a little of everything, even cut content, its called New Vegas Enhanced Content, its sort of a mod compilation with a lot of other things included, even things that hinder crashing and other problems with FNV.

Let me put it this way.  Without DLC, I would have rated the game 7/10.  With it, 10/10.

Dead Money has really really influenced my opinion on Obsidian's writing. Absolutely top notch, heartbreaking story there. Simply beautiful.

It tends to be a very polarising DLC due to the gameplay mechanics, but i just adore its story. and Laura Bailey
