What I wouldn't give for a little superhuman. I just hit level 26 (FO3) and all ghoul encounters, well...I just ought to call them Reaver encounters, are getting ridiculous. They are a b!+C# to kill, you can count on 4 to 8 of them in your average ghoul infested environment, and with their ranged attack, they're taking me down to nothing in just about two hits. What isn't Reavers are Roamers.

Seriously, my game has gotten fairly difficult above level 20. Same with Super Mutant encounters with Overlords. I'm getting ninja'd (well, at least they seem to be popping out of nowhere) in close quarters and am having to really scramble to stay alive most of the time. I'm not even close to being done with the main game quest line. I expect as hard, or worse, from the DLCs (in particular Pitt and Point Lookout).

Oh, and if you find all three Nuka-Nade schematics, you are able to craft 3 Nuke-Grenades for every bottle of Quantum if you didn't know; haven't gotten Quantum Chemist yet to craft Quantum because my Science score is still only 50 or 51. These help extract me from the worst situations; that...and switching to a Big guns focus.

Now, this is the first run I've done in FO3 on Very Hard, so I expect much of the insanity can be attributed to that, but just...wow. Some of these fights are no joke, and I definitely wish I could craft stimpaks because I go through them like candy. Purified Water and Ice cold Nuka Colas (as well as all DAM and DT perks) have become my closest friends to help me save Stims and improve output, since I'm still swearing off drugs for now.

^ Now you just need to go visit some swamp folk (and more ghoul reavers/roamers) in Point Lookout. Not only will your life be complete, but you'll feel like shooting yourself!

Well, not literally, but it's tough. Those crappy reavers are from Broken Steel, aren't they? I'm half tempted to uninstall that.

And I'd forgotten all about stacking schematics. That's what I get for jumping back into an old save, instead of easing my way back in.

Yep, stack em up!

It's one of those things I just plain overlooked, with the rather severe differences between FO3 and New Vegas crafting mechanics. I play FO3 approaching crafting as near-worthless compared to it's NV counterpart, so gaining every little advantage you can helps...and Nuka Grenades are game changers...EDIT: and make for awesome screen caps!Posted Image

Next on my agenda is to get bobbleheads. I realized that I'd only collected 5 of them in my travels in this run, and two are SPECIALs. A lot of my skills are at 100, but it couldn't hurt, right? Then I'll focus on schematics. The Nuka grenades are awfully pretty, after all.

Every time I see a workbench, I click on it, forgetting that I can't make stimpaks. Argh.

Is it me or does fallout 3 becomes boring after Dad dies? I mean, I'm playing it now and he just died. I'm finding it boring right now >.<

Not for me. I just don't get bored in FO. Could be just me probably. As luck would have it I just lost dear old dad, saved that crazy ass Dr. Li, and am heading to Vault 87 as we speak...well, heading there via Little Lamplight.

Looking forward to finding one Mr. Fawkes while I'm at it. Too bad he can't join me until later. Don't get me wrong I like Star Paladin Cross in all her seasoned badassedness and all, but nothing compares to having a Super Mutant companion with virtually unlimited hit points and a gatling laser that never runs out of ammo.

No, not bored...at all!Posted Image  Now if I can just find a mod that let's me bring on Liberty Prime as a companion...

I'd say it becomes more exciting after that, now everywhere you go, you find there are Enclave deployments everywhere. Having them shot is fun.

It also gets better for me at least, because I get to take a train to New Vegas(or somewhere in between the CW and NV) to start NV's story. I just love its intro, thankfully the cut intro they wanted to use never got finished, the one that it has now is better in every way.

@Barbarossa2010. Me too! I'm also in vault 87. Looking forward to taking fawkes as my companion. He's practically immortal. I always travel alone because my companions don't last very long with me, and they tend to die very quickly. Like a certain Miss Sydney that offered to be my companion, and died 5 seconds later because she stepped on a land mine._.

Funny you should mention Fawkes, he's right here with me. :D

I'm looking for the Arlington Cemetery. I fast traveled to the Flooded Metro, and I guess since I'm seeing a whole lot of empty arrows on my mini-map, I have some exploring to do.

I'd agree that things get more exciting after finding dad. Enclave everywhere! Which sometimes means Tesla Armor...which makes me giddy.

Tesla Armor! I have two sets now that those "Enclave Bastards" attacked us at Purity. Now its Vertibird time!

Oh, and Fawkes is probably the best companion I've ever had. Really bummed me out when he forced me to take one for the team at the end. He could've done it and been just fine. Eh, Todd Howard said they screwed the pooch on the FO3 ending, so I'll cut 'em some slack on that one.

Heh.

EDIT: Ignore that "heh." I was under the impression that background data foudn in the Vault had shown Fawkes to actually be a woman... but that was time playing tricks on me. I went to find the verification in the wiki and it has him listed as a man. Maybe I confused him with Shale.

As a rule I do everything incredibly at the first time and ruin everything at the second time. But it's the 3rd time (playthrough) that is well played.

Well, for me, the first playthrough is the most fun, because your basically groping around in the dark; leveling, exploring the map, learning about abilities, perks, companions, weapons, crafting...well...you get it.

But two or three is normally my best playthrough because I've usually mastered what I need to and can just play the game without the learning curve.

I just realized I probably didn't answer your question very well. Posted Image

First time.

With RPGs it is ALWAYS the first time.

FO3 in particular was a real eyegasm for (the most graphically intense game I've had in years (the next hardest game on my then laptop GPU was SC:CT) and when I got through the prologue and looked upon the scenic view fr the first time it was simply WOW!!!

Also have fond memories getting lost in Megaton ... would you believe that? Finding Moira's was prolly the hardest thing for me from the first ten or so hours of gameplay. And then the first sidequest into the super market. I was in love with the game on first sight.

And then I fell in love with it again a second time ... when I got my current PC and loaded some mods, FOOK2 among others. It was a whole different game. I remember the joy of having grinded through that damn Talon Outpost to find the Aufstandgewehr, that was really worth the fight, oh boy.

FNV was sadly not that much an eyegasm as it's pretty much FO3 engine and I thus knew what to expect, but let's say my first trip to the Goodsprings Cementary and subsequently being attacked by a host of giant radscorpions because I wanted to hit that one stray coyotee was another eye opener altogether. Damn you Bethesda!

When I first got FO3 in 2009, it looked too good to be true! When I got out of the vault, there I saw the awesomeness. But I confronted with a horrible monster in a minute (don't remember if it was Geko or a small Deathclaw). It was so hard killing it, suddenly two BoS paladins came out of nowhere (probably patrolling) and killed that monster for me. Despite of this I was kinda outclassed and thought they must be difficult opponents everywhere, so I didn't continue the game for a year.

It's all because of more rubble and famous buildings of FO3 that make it more look like a Fallout game than New Vegas. But the point is everywhere is polluted with radioactive and New Vegas is just another region in the Fallout-land that looks different.

Yeah, first time coming out of Vault 101, not knowing really what to do was...overwhelming.

I thought Megaton was huge, but it felt like an oasis of safety compare to my brief jaunt in the Wasteland between there and Vault 101 (LOL), and yes I got lost in Megaton. You could feel the danger of this world. Just trying to get to the Super Duper Mart for Moira was hard, much less trying to sneak my way around in it, watching the 'evil' silhouettes of the enemies, finally giving up on sneaking, then trying to kill those super hard enemies known as "Raiders."

I felt like a champ, and the richest man in the world, being able to loot that place at will of every empty bottle. I had finally beat the natural intimidation of the FO universe, and could actually play the game now.

I'll never forget how hard it was for me to pick up this game...now I'm hooked on the series and can't wait for more. So, I suppose in that sense, yes, the first playthrough was my favorite.

I am still on my first playthrough, and the first impressions of this game were astounding. When I walked out of the vault, the world seemed so big, yet so dangerous. This became especially apparent when I visited Springvale and that school nearby. Never before had I stepped into such a vast and interactive world. Though I only have 70 hours invested in gameplay, I feel like I've gotten a really deep and awesome experience.

The only problem is figuring out when I should beat the game. I feel like I'd be missing out if I didn't explore every last place in the game.

^ If you have the DLCs, when to finish becomes less important, since you can keep exploring after the MQ is over.

Fawkes is awesome. I still want to try out Charon (maybe in that new run I started), but for now, the big, cuddly mutie is just peachy. I'd forgotten how durable he is; we were in Evergreen Mills last night, and the Behemoth got loose - Fawkes took him down with his Gatling Laser, like nothing. And walked away only a couple health bars down.

Probably my first time, but honestly, I'm having just as much fun now as I did then.

I'm still finding new stuff! Would you believe that this is the first time I actually went into the National Guard Armory/Bunker? Or the cave in Rockopolis? I had no idea either was there. Seeking out bobbleheads has sent me to places I probably wouldn't have gone, otherwise. Although admittedly, I'm procrastinating on the Dunwich Building...maybe with Fawkes, it won't be such a big deal. I still have the Bethesda ruins, too...

In my first playthrough, I had no idea what to expect, and wondered how much time was going to be spent in Vault 101 (like the whole game took place there, or something, lol). Then once dad sprung the coop, and things went down, walking outside the vault was kind of terrifying, but exhilarating.

You guys are not the only ones to get lost in Megaton. Posted Image Once I got there, I was mesmerized by people talking to me, and eventually, reacting to me, or giving me gifts for being awesome. Moriarty being a complete ass; Gob giving me a discount, simply for being nice. Then that Super Duper mart. Yikes. I have no idea how I made it through there my first time.

Then, the first time I stumbled upon Super Mutants, I was fresh out of Megaton for the first time, and made a wrong left turn at Albuquerque. Walked right into am ambush, and ended up face down in the dirt, dead. It was fantastic.

Definitely the first one. I actually didn't know what fallout was. I bought FO3 game of the year edition by random.:P

They first playthrought was just bad. So very bad! I killed so many people, missed out on so many quests, blew up Megaton just because, killed Three dog because he annoyed me(still does) etc.

I also didn't know what caps were. You have no idea how many merchants practically robbed me. And when I did the Pitt dlc, I left all of my caps in the footlocker! Because I didn't know what they were! I had over a thousand. -.- so halfway through the game, had equipment but zero money.. err caps.

You might have been thinking about what Fawkes' voice actor originally said (that the character was a woman), since Emil Pagilarulo (the lead designer) had to clarify that Fawkes was actually a man, and that Wes was "mistaken".

^ Also, wasn't the former inhabitant of Fawkes' cell female? I think that's where I got the idea that he was a she, initially.

I hear that. I garfed several things up, too, because my Speech was crap, turned people hostile from picking their locks, right in front of them, etc. I didn't blow up Megaton, thankfully.

My husband killed Uncle Leo AND Lucas Simms, both by accident.

My worst decisions were how to use level-up perks. Animal Friend was a good decision. Daddy's Girl, Swift Learner, Here and Now, etc., were bad decisions, and I took every one of them in my first run.

The rad resistance perks I also got were bad decisions, and kind of pointless. Considering that in this run, I've got up over 100 Rad Away, Rad-X, etc., and about double that in Stimpaks...that stuff is not hard to come by.

I still have bad memories of trying to keep Dogmeat alive while fighting that SM Behemoth outside of Galaxy News Radio. The behemoth completely ignored my pc, and went right for Dogmeat the whole time. It was a comedic cycle of Dogmeat attacking, getting knocked down, and me applying a Stimpak. Rinse and repeat. I have no idea how we survived that debacle.

Poor Dogmeat. I remember fighting the behemoth with the WE mod and hard settings while I had crippled limbs, low strength and a fat man. It was a good day.

I just took Dogmeat back to my Megaton House and told him to "stay" - taking a dog into combat against giant radscorpions, super mutants, Talon mercs, etc. always seemed slightly absurd to me. I do make sure to stop in and tell him he's a good dog whenever I'm back in town, though.

^ Yep, that's where Dogmeat is in this run, for me. It was just too much of a battle trying to keep him alive, and as it is, he's keeping my bot company. With Fawkes, I don't really need the extra support, anyway.

Even if he wasn't there already, I think after that Desmond quest in Point Lookout, I would immediately have sent him home. Poor Geri and Freki. This is no place for dogs.

On a total sidenote, I did the Oasis quest last night, and remembered another aspect of why I love FO3 so much. The permanent bonuses/perks you get from certain quests - in this case, Barkskin. Also Ant Sight/Ant Might (Those!), Rad Regeneration and Survival Expert (Wasteland Survival Guide) etc.
