I've been playing through New Vegas with a few mods on my tablet.

Contreras, you really should rethink your wardrobe in light of your career choices.

Speaking of ED-E being boss, I was cringing up on a piece of machinery with no line of sight while the mama deathclaw was coming after us, but ED-E took out most of her health before she got in a swipe at him. Then she ran around to where I could finish her off.

She's one nasty mother.

I like having a multiple followers mod, but Arcade and Boone hanging out so close to each other is making me nervous.

He's so adorable!  I want to hug him.

Well, you'll be happy to know that I just started my New Vegas playthrough. I'm a level 3 and haven't left Good Springs yet. Just vilified with the Powder Gangers, so I've got that going for me.Posted Image

I use multiple followers as well....oh, and I just got Sunny Smiles as a follower since I supported Good Springs against the PG-ers (with a mod) and she is surprisingly good, complete with wheel and useful stats/perks for the Courier (survival). Nice to have a companion to leave Good Springs with.

The Mother Deathclaw is one bad beeotch...I'm mean it. Isn't she the most powerful enemy in NV, except for the legendary DC...oh, and the legendary Bloatfly of all things?

Man, I love NV screen shots. Keep 'em coming. I'll post some as soon as I have something worth showing.  10 of Spades, LOL. Posted Image And Boone and Arcade; talk about the odd couple.Posted Image

EDIT: I've never liked Contreras, and usually only keep him around sometimes for what he can provide my Courier; sometimes I just snitch him out.

I had loaded a number of mods late into my last playthrough several months ago, and really didn't get the chance to experience their full effect. Two of those were Nevada Skies and EVE. Since starting a new playthrough, I'm getting the full monty. They are amazing mods:

Posted Image

Nevada Skies, complete with RADstorms that will make you sick at an alarming rate if you don't pop RAD-X and get indoors. First time I got to experience one. I quick travelled to Good Springs and had this waiting for me. I thought it was just a cool sand storm right up until I was I went sick really fast with radiation poisoning, and found out I was carrying around just short of 300 rads by the time I popped indoors.  What I really like about NS is that even when you go indoors you can still hear the storms raging outside, or thunder, or rainfall, whatever. It's really well done...well except for the rain that seems to penetrate certain overhead cover. Eh, forgivable. The sky effects alone are worth the price of admission, and the night visuals make travelling around at night almost pleasant.

Now EVE is something I thought I wouldn't get much out of since I don't mess around too much with energy weapons, but I was wrong. Bullet impacts, kill scenes, explosions and enhanced explosive effects, and many other subtleties. Dynamite, which is pretty much all I'm using as a level 6, has very enhanced reactions, with secondary explosions and differing kill effects. Can hardly wait to see what they've done to Frags, MFCs, Nuka-Grenades, Plamas, etc. General car nuclear explosions are very enhanced and last longer, to the point you stop and gawk.

I'm getting ready to plow some points into energy weapons to get the full effect of the mod.

I'm in Vegas city itself and still don't know which one to support. I should get over it and lose the interesting companions to join Caesar?! This dilemma is killing me!

Am I the only one who plays the game mainly 1st person? When I want to see 3rd person I use vats. Dat fighting scene...

If you just got to Vegas, you still have time.  And you could always do the DLC beforehand; Honest Hearts in particular may change your mind about Caesar.

But pick who you believe would be the best pick for the character; I prefer House Always Wins, but that's just me.  :police:

How does the radiation storms affect npcs? Or are they immune and casually carry on with their daily duties?

I've tried out all the endings (which you can do to see which road you prefer taking with your protagonist), but I prefer the Independent route with my Courier. I hand in my resignation letter to Caesar with Boone at my side. Let's just say Caesar wasn't happy.

They yell a bit and go into "fleeing" status, so it hurts them, but I haven't seen anyone die from it.

My problem with that mod- I think it's that one- is that lately in low light I often get the dreaded red triangle indicating a texture is missing.  There's a fix (Archive Validation Invalidated) but I haven't been able to get the fix working. The triangle disappears if you cross a loading screen, reload and/or wait until the sky is lighter.

Well, I've experience three different endings: I've sided with the NCR, been a House man, and gone completely rogue and independent with Yes Man.

When the NCR wouldn't swear me into the Rangers, I "swore" them off and haven't been back. House = Good.
Yes Man = The Best!  Of course, that's all dependent on your character's outlook.

Haven't supported the Legion yet. Sort of thought I'd toy with the idea on this playthrough, always having the option to betray later on, and then Nipton happened. Ended up vilifying with the Legion right up front as a level 6.  Oops.  Ah well, there's always other playthroughs.

Nevada Skies I love so much. <3 Definitely helps atmospherically and the Blueberry Nights add-on is just beautiful to me. The Radstorms really can be a problem but thankfully they've only triggered during times where I was close to a building and could get out of it quick.

^Yeah, I'd almost completely forgotten I had Nevada Skies on, since it had been a while and I hadn't gotten much experience with it in the first playthrough.

I quick traveled and there it was..."Ooh cool, look a sandstorm. Isn't that realistic."...wrong.
+4 Rads/Sec isn't going to kill you instantly, but it becomes alarming when you're walking around in it for goofs and not paying attention to what's happening, until it's almost too late.Posted Image

They give you some warning that a sandstorm is on its way in. The light turns a sickly brown-green shade. Pretty realistic I think.

^Still hard to believe Benny is voiced by Matthew Perry. Right over my head on the first run. But, then again, he and my first Courier didn't have what you would classify as a long chat either. A bit of a hot head that one was; driven by little more than vengeance...then he met Ulysses.

Ring-a-ding.

You gain more insight into the early days of the legion and their practices via running into Caesar's First Legate.

Although obviously Joshua's...Retelling of events are clouded with his own bitterness towards being tossed into the grand canyon after failing at the first battle of Hoover Dam.

I recently started replaying F:NV, and instead of playing like a Bestheda game (i.e., just going out wherever and enjoying the sandbox), I treated it like an RPG and I can really see the brilliance of Obsidian's writing and quest design. The world is completely incapable of recognizing the Courrier as anything other than a quest-completing object, but the world has so much rich character it entirely makes up for it.

I love the game.

:P The think tank are actually quite blunt in labeling the courier nothing more then a "quest completing object"

it was actually quite humorous.

Going to Zion Park? Sounds like a plan!

Is this 'Nevada Skies' mod just a nuclear sand storm or you can actually see the stars and constellations (awesome things in night sky)?

Here's a question: is there any way to sign up with the Legion prior to having Benny flee to Casear?

You can do tasks for them beforehand in Nipton and Nelson, and Benny doesn't have to survive the encounter at the Tops, but you need to have met Vulpes (or Alerio if you killed Vulpes in Nipton) outside the Tops Casino before you're granted an audience with Caesar.

^And even if you kill Vulpes and are vilified with the Legion by that time, Caesar offers you a mark
(through Alerio) which in effect, "forgives all sins" against the Legion and resets your rep with the them.

Pretty funny actually since I've had probably 7-10 encounters with Legion assassin squads and wiped out the slave camp. The last encounter was just outside of Quarry Junction last night (honestly, that was the first time I had seen them that far west--they must really hate this particular Courier), as I was routing out Deathclaws. It was very inopportune.

But anyway, I can still seek my penance with them later if I desire, since I haven't made it to the Strip yet.

Weather effects (rain, thunder, ice storms and snow in the mountains), dust and sand storms, RADstorms, appropriate sound effects. It does add stars to the sky, but I'm not sure if constellations are actually discernible (honestly haven't looked that close). The night sky is richer and more clear (well, more clear on a "clear night-lol).

Night sand storms, or really any other storms at night, are the worst. You literally are fumbling around if you're caught out in the middle of nowhere. It gets really dark; but you can fast travel out of it if you want. To me, that defeats the purpose of the mod.

Thanks guys! I wanted to try rolling a legion-esque character in the future and wasn't sure if the right approach was to bee-line it for the strip or not (since there are lots of NCR-type quests you could do along the way, like at McCarran Air-Force base that clearly have Legion counterparts, I'd imagine).

Yeah, my game's getting more unstable by the day. I might get an hour of game time in before CTD-ing. Tends to happen as I pass through doorways. Downloaded an anti-crash mod, and honestly I can't tell any difference.

The most game changing mods I'm running are: EVE, Nevada Skies, WMX, NMCs Texture Pack, and Wasteland Flora Overhaul. I'm wondering if one of them is the culprit.  But, I don't have anywhere near 350 and most of mine are small fixes and add-ons like weapons, armor and small locations.

If you have a fix, or come across one, let me know. I'd really like to stabilize my game without having to uninstall anything if possible.
