My favored outcome is probably House. My current character might do independent just because I've never done it before. But it seems a waste to kill such a resourceful man, who will probably be around even after the Courier dies. The indie ending reminds me too much of what Chief Hanlon says about Caesar- that he decided to shape the tribes after his own ways of doing things.

If you end up killing Mr. House, which I debated doing at one point, decided against, and then went to see what the outcome would be, you get a very poignant message. It's worth at least trying it out once to see that note in your "Misc." tab.

Siding with the NCR seems like the "good" thing to do, but so many people stress that the NCR only wants the resources and will bleed the land dry, and that it's over-extended and that will ultimately be its downfall. Siding with House, there is still trade between the Mojave and NCR, which I think is a better outcome for both.

The NCR is a society that, IMO, can't function. It was built to mimic a broken society that couldn't survive its demand for resource, and now it's trying to fight over even more dwindling resources. Ceasar isn't necessarily wrong to look to a pre-industrial society as model for what humanity might need to become to survive in the Fallout-world. He's just a brutal and insane megalomaniac.

Eddie has a good point about House being part of the Pre-War industrial complex that doomed the world

He does, but I don't think he's any different.

If anyone is still having a problem with "Cannot connect to Nexus server" with your Nexus Mod Manager, you have to uninstall and manually install the latest update, 4.60 (available at the top of every Nexus web page). That fixed the problem for me.

I think its better to label Caesar as "Driven by his own vision."

He believes what he preaches,  Techology cannot be allowed to overcome Man again, therefore mankind must once more become its own arbiter.

Hence his desire to see the slate wiped clean again which you could agrue it was when the bombs fell.

But then again; I am a long time Legion supporter in FO so i may be slightly biased.

I personally hope we get to one day see the lands of Colorado and Arizonia and see what the 86 tribes produced before they came to the Mojave.

Personally? I picture massive state ran farms and production centers, and just miles of fortification some sort of like a medievil Syria or North Korea. ran either by state drafted workers or slaves, You cannot use slave labor for everything obviously, occasionally paid employee's will work better after all either in skilled work or in manager positions.

In short of the sort of society that is actually well suited to FO, Democracy just invites the corruption that is killing the NCR decade by decade.

I'm sorry, the police state I could understand but the breeding programs and breaking up families is a bridge too far. Eddie can organize the minions of hell if he's so eager.

Finished Dead Money. What an awesome DLC. It was almost as terrifying and frustrating as the first time.

I am at a point I thought I'd go ahead and do Dead Money.

I have applied a ton of fixes to keep my game from crashing every five minutes, and am currently doing fair. The head exploding bug crept in while I was faffing about trying to get my game stable, but have managed to fix that for the time being. I just ran the game for two hours without a crash or my head exploding, so I consider that progress. If any of this persists, I'm going to have to uninstall and start over.

Anyway, DM should be a damn good test for all of these fixes. So....

Reading this thread I have again gotten the itch to play this despite trying to get through Infamous, Kingdoms of Amalur, and having recently gotten Dishonored and Assassin's Creed 3. I picked up my level 13 Courier and am now at level 17 after a couple days. Did Black Mountain, most of the Freeside quests and a couple Crimson Caravan quests. Gonna go farm the casinos soon I think.

I also am finally taking notice of the Gun Runners weapons and challenges...are any of the challenges worth doing? I'm gonna leave the weapons alone for a while since I only use what I find in the Wasteland.

It's too bad your game is so crashy. I've been getting occasional CTD's at fast travel or loading screens, but nothing too terrible. I avoid big mods so I think it limits the problems. Though it did crash just after I had finished the last quest in Dead Money (which is a bit of a nail-biter, though I'm trying not to spoil for those who haven't done it) and had to re-play the last part. That was one of those throw-the-controller moments... if I had a controller, that is. Smash the keyboard, I guess, lol.

My crashes are pretty rare; I get far more terrifying saves that won't load. Sometimes starting a new game calms things down, sometimes it's a reset... but it's rarely the same thing, and it freaks me out.

You know, if the rewards were for more than just XP, maybe. But, I have no inherent desire to kill House with a 9 Iron or a Deathclaw with a .22 or switchblade, so to me, they aren't worth it for anything other than popping an achievement. I mean, I did those challenges in RDR, killing a mountain lion with a bowie knife and all, but it's just not one of those things that I feel I really have to do in New Vegas.

Having said that, killing 10 named Legionnaires with a Ranger Sequoia is something I might just have to do...not for the 1000 XP mind you, but for the pure enjoyment of it! Of course, pro-legion types can have their way in Armed for Bear using a chainsaw.  So it's probably all just a matter of player prospective and preference.

If earning a little XP, racking up achievements, or itching your inner completionist is your thing, it's probably something you want to do.

Just me though.

EDIT: Now, make the reward a GRA weapon of choice, commensurate with the difficulty, then you're on!

GRA Challenges?

Check your achievement list on Steam. There should be 5 total achievements associated with the GRA add-on.  Three of those are for completing 1, 2 and 3 Star-level GRA challenges.

There are a total of 21 in-game GRA challenges. The specifics of the challenges are here (look at the "challenges" section): http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gun_Runners'_Arsenal

EDIT: There's not much to them Addai. Basically just XP bonuses, and the achievement of course. Like I said there's a couple that sound like something fun to do, but really that's about it.

I had that for the first time today!  It is scary. We had a power outage and when I tried to load my last save, every time it took me to a new game or at least probably to a very early save where I was straight out of Doc Mitchell's. Eventually I got a recent save to load. Weird.

I can't argue with this logic.

^ I just spoke with him last night. Posted Image

I ended up starting a new NV run, after completing the other one (siding with the NCR). It occurred to me that I never *actually* finished the game before. Like...that whole part with Lanius was completely new to me, and holy crap, he was difficult. You'd think at level 50, I'd be doing pretty good, but yikes. Glad that's over (for now). Or maybe I did do it, and completely forgot about it. Either could be true.

My new character is sporting purple hair and glasses (I took the Four Eyes trait...and Wild Wasteland) and is doing, well, pretty much the same stuff I always do. Dang it, my plan was to focus on Unarmed this time around, so I put some points into it at the very beginning, and how many times have I actually used Unarmed? That's right - none. Argh.

So at the cost of doing that, I sacrificed Science, and probably Speech, so I've been running around the Mojave, avoiding doing quests where I can't pass Speech checks, and coming back to them when I can. Normally by now, I'd be able to break into every computer and safe, but my Science is currently around 40, and Lockpicking is still at 17.

At this point, I'm tooling around with ED-E; haven't even talked to the King yet. And I just picked up Arcade. I actually spent the first chunk of the game with Veronica. I realized that I've never actually done her quest stuff the way you're supposed to. It's a little difficult to get her to speak to you if you don't actually travel with her. Hehe.

Anyway, I got stuck at the Archimedes II stuff at Helios One. Not that I can't figure it out; I was just wondering if I could redirect the power grid with Arcade (to get his dialogue trigger), then go back with Veronica and power the rangefinder? Or vice versa? It's probably too late now anyway, as I just went through it with Arcade.

After finally doing all the DLC, I've been picking up little hints and references to people and places in the DLCs in the vanilla game. Holy crap, I'm frankly amazed at how well they tied them all in! Wow! How did I miss all these references to the Divide, and the other Courier?

Yeah New Vegas had some of the best DLC of any game ever. Almost all of it was referenced in the main game months before any of it came out.

I had Veronica with me for all of Helios One last night, but she didn't have any specific reactions like I know Arcade does.Which is surprising all things considered. Fantastic always makes me laugh though. "I have a theoretical degree in physics.."

Something may be blundered with Arcade for me, as per usual. This time around, he didn't comment in Helios One, until after I made my choice for the power grid. In my previous run, he suggested Freeside and commented afterwards. I'll probably be locked out of his quest yet again.

Also, I'm noticing WAY more prospectors milling about this time around. Strange. They're like everywhere. Oh! A friendly! Is it another bird? Nope, it's another prospector, with nothing to say!

@Jack - Despite being terrified during approximately half of the DLCs (Dead Money and The Lonesome Road), I thought they were absolutely amazing. Probably the best I've ever played. The writing was fantastic.

Fantastic is fantastic. And the word of the day is fantastic. Posted Image

Old World Blues is by far my favorite. I'll have to do that one soon, to get Veronica some lobotomite glasses.

Yeah, he's supposed to talk about how he thinks power should be distributed from the mainframe. I don't know why your console has a grudge against Arcade; maybe it's BOS tech.

OWB is a lot of fun. But I think a lunatic must have hired Fantastic.

I've heard his dialogue before, but not this time. I wonder if it's because I talked to Fantastic while I was there with Veronica? I'm not sure if I'm up for redoing it, but at this low level, I'm just dealing with turrets, robobrains, etc. I'll ponder this.

You're right, though. There does seem to be a grudge against Arcade or the Enclave Remnants. Not sure which, unless there's some kind of overlap from FO3. Either way, my xbox needs a talking-to.

So you explored the area with Veronica first? Perhaps that's it; the dialogue may not trigger for you because you hired Arcade after exploring the terminal room with Veronica. There's still hope for your Courier.

Yeah, I think you're right. I wondered if that was going to mess me up. Dern it. I'll have to see if I have an earlier save from before that. It might be a moot point, as I went there a few times with Veronica, while getting the solar panels for Loyal, and all that.

I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Ooops, sorry. You've got to do the radio code quests for Tech Sergeant Reyes, which will eventually lead you to Hanlon. Threaten to turn him in, etc, etc, then after he offs himself run into the room and there it will be. The only other "legit" way is to stealth kill a veteran ranger, which I just won't do.

It's Pretty dumb actually. Obsidian really did go overboard with some things, making them virtually impossible (since their owned items), to attain (Sequoia, La Longue Carbine, Figaro). You can't pickpocket them, so being a sneak thief isn't of any value. They're just there, apparently only for "evil" characters to loot after committing a murder. When I say I was unhappy about not being able to be a Ranger with the NCR, you start to see why.

As for me, I have so many weapons mods on, including Mojave Gun Nuts, that the Sequoia shows up in leveled lists and merchant inventory (obviously rarely and only at high level).

Of course, you can bypass all that with: 00129a44

The soldiers understand automatically, but apparently you have to be an NCR bureaucrat to understand what it means to be "Fantastic."

Actually you can pickpoket those weapons, you just need to be clever and pretty skilled. You just need to trick them into unequipping it. Easiest way is to pickpocket all their ammo then leave them alone for a bit. If they have no ammo, they'll unequip the gun. Then you can pickpocket it.

The other method (for weapons without ammo) is to reverse pickpocket a 'better' weapon into their inventory. They'll swap to that after awhile leaving the weapon you want in their bag.

If all else fails, or you're just a terrible pickpocket, purposely annoy them enough to pull the gun out then shoot the weapon out of their hand. Grab it quickly after they drop it and run away. They'll cool off in a few days.

Heh, pissing off a ranger just to swipe his career-crowning sidearm. It's so sneaky.

I already passed the part with Chief Hanlon. His quest is so sad. This time I left him alone. Personally I think he's got the NCR's number and his plan isn't as crazy as it sounds, except for the part about letting the Legion have the Dam. But I can go along with it because I've got my own plan to take the dam. This character saw House's Securitron army before reaching that point.

If you really listen to what people say about the NCR, them hiring Fantastic to run their power station fits right in.

I know. I'd never do that. Honest. I just perfected all the above techniques so that I could steal from the elderly. (Specifically to get Big Boomer away from Old Lady Gibson)
