I don't play anything in Hardcore mode.  So yeah, that's for Normal.

Heh. Hardcore mode is really poorly named. Since its not the difficulty setting, thats different. But it adds alot of survival type game mechanics that make it feel more like an rpg to me. Eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. Makes the survival skill and cooking much more useful.

The only bad thing about it (in my humblish opinon) is the aforementeioned companion death.

That's what I remember the most. My first run was in Hardcore, but I eventually stopped with the subsequent runs because my companions would die at odd times - Lily once I exited the Fort on a Legion run suddenly dropped dead and I couldn't take her with me, so I had to continue solo, or Cass as we were walking down a hill and she died because we climbed down too fast. It was just really odd.

Hardcore mode definitely makes cooking and scrounging for water more important. I liked that part of it, not so much the companion death and ammo weight. It's realistic but I'll sacrifice realism for convenience.

There are some cool crafting mods that help with the survival aspect. One allows you to make purified water from cactus, and refill water bottles. Playing in hardcore mode makes you realize what a resource Goodsprings wells and Lake Mead are. Made me pay attention when Chief Hanlon said the NCR had sucked all the reservoirs and aquifers in their own territory dry- they're going to do the same thing to the Mojave.

For Hardcore mode, carrying 10 bottles of purified water, 10 Nuka Cola and other drinks plus many steaks of Bighorn meat and other edible meats (no I don't eat Redroach meat and keep it stylish!) would be really difficult without my companions :)

Well, I've had to wipe the game and deactivate all my mods. I couldn't cure the freezes and crashes...and I think I tried everything from common to obscure.

Have re-installed the game and am going back through my mods cutting out the crap; and shopping and downloading a few new things. I had a number of old junk mods still active that I have long since abandoned.

Now to figure out a proper load order, then...hopefully...I can play this game again with some enjoyment rather than drudgery.

Probably a good idea if tedious, Barbarossa. You could look into FNVEdit. I haven't used it but I used TESVEdit on Skyrim and it worked well. Identifies and eliminates bad code and conflicts. The video tutorial for TESVEdit was really helpful.

Ode to Thump-Thump- a whole room full of raiders put out of their misery while thinking about scoring chems and chicks.
(the Wastelander in the LH corner is already dead when you enter the vault, I got the other captives out before unloading)

If this fails, then I will fall back to FNVEdit. As of now, with a reinstall and proper installation of the mods I wanted to keep, my game (1) has never appeared more beautiful and clear; and (2) run so well. I mean, it is a new game. Also, took the time to set a proper load order, which I think makes all the difference in the world.

The problem appears to have been mod (big ones - like Nevada Skies, EVE and NMCs Texture Pack) installation far too late in my other game, so (at least I think) they were not installing properly and ton of things really began to work against one another, dragging my system down further and further.

My game look phenomenal and runs smoother, so I'm almost certain that was the problem. Nevada Skies, with NMCs Texture Pack, looks like their screen shots now. Like a said, it's a whole new game.

That's why I don't install more than 10 mods. They should all be the major ones, plus one or two companions or weapons.

8x AA lowers Framerates too much. Decrease it to 4x o even 2x and still the graphic is good without having low FPS.

Great to hear. Load order really does make a difference. It pays to read the readmes.

I've been doing the Brotherhood quests for the first time, and Veronica's personal quest. Really interesting, some of my favorite story lines now, when you see it all put together with Big MT and Elijah and Christine. Man this is an awesome game.

I also had never been to Vault 11 before. Holy crap.

Can't believe I missed this poor little guy, too. Amazing how much new stuff I'm still uncovering.

Speaking of kids, the Mini Boomers are freaking adorable. Including the fact that they're called Mini Boomers. Except for the fact that as the tour guide kid demonstrates, they're growing up with alarming fondness for blowing people up. The thing is, I can relate.

I never used to care for Veronica much, but her sass is growing on me.

Now that's dedication, soldier.

I knew the others you've just discovered recently. There is a radiated town south east of Nepton full of ghouls, on the other side of the hills. Check it out too.

I should search more maybe I can find something new too.

I found The Forecaster in my last run, and was surprised, too. And the Boomers? I love them. I never did find that teddy bear for the Mini Boomer.

In this run, I stumbled upon the Prospector's Den, which I'd never been to before. Not much in there, but I did get some much-needed armor and weapons from the Viper Gunslingers inside, at an early level. There were some Super Mutants nearby that I left alone, but later, someone mentioned them. I might have to go back, to see what they were up to.

I think I got all of the remaining dialogues with Arcade that I needed, and his quest didn't trigger, so I looked it up...to find that if you side with Yes Man, his quest triggers at a certain time during the MQ, Derp. I haven't even talked to Benny yet, let alone Yes Man.

What else...oh, I found an electric substation near Helios One that I'd never been to before. The NCR Soldiers did not want me going inside, so I just kept walking.

I keep switching out companions, to get their dialogues, so it's been crazy trying to keep everything straight. Brilliant writing in this game. Makes me wonder how in the heck they tied everything together so well.

Vault 11 has quite a story.

Camp Searchlight, right? I've been there. This time I didn't find the friendly ghoul but there's only so much of that place I can take. I hadn't been to the airport before, though.

I had to metagame a bit to get Veronica's quest to trigger. I was afraid it was too late since some of the triggers were already gone. But McCarran, Vault 3 and then finally the Boomer museum did it. Heh, I figured she'd be impressed by them.  I found it interesting that Elijah's terminal was inside the Gibson shack. It figures that there's more to Old Lady Gibson than meets the eye. Though maybe he just paid rent.

About Vault 11, I don't know if they did it purposely or I just happened to find the right terminals in the right order, but the way the story unfolds is a great example of building tension. Reminded me of the haunted house level in Bloodlines. I was a little distracted by Oghren's voice being on the holotapes, lol.

Vault 11 was a hoot! Creepy, creepy, but a hoot.

Also, there's another Ghoul area just west of the searchlight airport. It's at the Old Nuclear Test Site where you find Trash. Depending on your level you might be in for a run of it with a boat load of Reavers. Also, if you're short on Authority Glasses look up at the observation area. There's also a downed Vertibird just east of it, that left a long divot in the ground (where you can pick up a Tesla-Beaton prototype). Takes some exploring to find, but its there.

And Searchlight just grates on you after a while with the constant radiation. I usually just clear it fast and move on.

Yep I've been to the nuclear test site and downed vertibird, and had Arcade with me so I got his dialogue.

The person I'm missing this time is Emily, who gives you the quest to plant a bug in House's network. As I recall the bug doesn't work anyway. But she's got some impressive know-how if she rewired Yes Man. My character being a science and robotics type, she's a member of the Followers and those two could talk shop.

I'm pretty comfortable going indie with this character. It fits her pretty well.

I seem to recall that it took quite a while for Emily to show up in my last run. Not sure if it's dependent on MQ progress or what. She did show up eventually, though. Just when I'd forgotten about her. :)

^ Nice!

I just went by the NCR Correctional Facility and found some dogs, simply labeled 'Large Dog'. They look just like Dogmeat (and Old Lady Gibson's dogs), and are friendly; I wish I could take one home! I think that's the first time I've seen them out in the wild, with no owner.

Also, I found a back way into Black Mountain, and completed Crazy, Crazy, Crazy by fixing Rhonda. So I picked up Raul, and quickly did his quest, and this time, talked him into remaining a mechanic. He seems (sounds) rather wimpy now, but he did get some new armor. Last time, I kinda felt bad encouraging him to be a Vaquero.

Really? I felt the opposite way about Raul's quest of self-discovery. I liked encouraging Raul that age didn't matter, and that someone who was older could still play a role. I also enjoyed hanging out with a guy who had enough confidence to wear a Vaquero outfit.

He's a smoking badass as a vaquero. He sat around on his peeling kiester for years repairing Tabitha's knick knacks. It's time to go out and clean up the Wasteland again, Raul. Yee haw!

Mostly, I think I was just kinda creeped out by the Vaquero suit. Every time I went to the Lucky 38, he'd just be standing there, in the same spot. In that silly suit. Just...standing there. Staring at my poor Courier.

But you're right, he seemed a lot more confident that way, but I had to try it the other way, just to say I'd done it. I will probably let him be badass again, in future runs. I'll tell him to stay at his shack, though. :)

Just went through Vault 11. I'd forgotten about that last part...as a martyr. Veronica had gotten stuck somewhere, so it was just me and ED-E. But we made it out alive.

Now we're in Vault 34, getting irradiated. I thought I stole the armory key from a Pearl, but once I got to it, the door was locked. Time to find the overseer's office, I guess.

I suppose I should sleep at nights cuz in 'Nevada Skies' I can't see a thing when there is no light bulb (lamp). At least it makes it realistic.

So which companions get enraged when you ally yourself with Caesar's Legion? I know Gannon and Boone who are the most interesting will rebel against you.
More likely I'll choose Mr. House or Yes Man path this time.

I just realized Casses Father was in another game http://fallout.wikia...ki/John_Cassidy

Well, I got the pulse gun from Vault 34, and hightailed it out of there. I still need to go back in to fix the reactor for Hard Luck Blues, but I'm low on Rad-X and RadAway.

This run is sort of shaking out to be my 'Dumb-Dumb' run, in honor of Tabitha, so I'm hand-waving all of my stupid decisions (like not focusing on Speech, Science, and Lockpicking).

I don't know, I think all of the followers are pretty interesting. Posted Image

To answer your question, I think Veronica will also react negatively if you side with Mr. House or the Legion, due to having to destroy the BoS bunker:

To complete the Mr. House or Caesar's Legion main quest lines, it will be necessary to destroy the Brotherhood of Steel bunker in Hidden Valley, which will usually put the player below Veronica's reputation threshold. Recovering any gear you have given her beforehand is recommended unless you are prepared to kill her, as she is not keen on giving it back.

  • It is possible to complete either the Mr. House or Caesar's Legion main quest lines and not have Veronica turn hostile by first making Veronica inactive (sending her to the Lucky 38) and then stealthily killing every single Brotherhood member in the bunker. As long as you never receive the message that Brotherhood of Steel infamy has been gained, you can report back to either House or Caesar and complete the quest, and Veronica will remain a permanent companion, since you've just eliminated all risk of her ever leaving you again.
  •  Alternatively, if you complete the quests Pistol Packing, Still in the Dark (favoring McNamara) and Eyesight to the Blind for the Brotherhood, this will earn enough positive favor with the Brotherhood for the reputation "Soft-Hearted Devil" upon activating the bunker self-destruct, and Veronica will stay.

There's a mod that restores an option to persuade House to ally with the Brotherhood. Though thinking about it, it's kind of a weasel, and makes the House and indie endings too much alike. Actually I was *this close* to destroying the Brotherhood bunker after finishing Veronica's quest. I think I'd be doing them a favor, assuming people would evacuate (I know in reality they probably all die). But they're doing pretty well dying out on their own.

Oh, about Raul's silly outfit- you can get him to change it if you've got armor that's better rated. My PC actually wore his vaquero suit for a while, hehe (via a mod that gives you companion weapons and armor for the PC). Not that I liked the appearance, but for the sweet +Luck and crit chance stats.

Yeah, I know you can change it, but I dunno,.. I guess it just seemed wrong to make him wear something else, after all that talk about it, you know?

I think if I just don't send him back to the Lucky 38, I'll be fine. He can lurk to his heart's content in his own shack. Posted Image

Nice!

I've been running around with Lily. Just waiting for the chance to tell her to take her meds, so I can switch over to Boone. For some Legion killing, of course. I was able to talk Keene down, so yay. I mean, it took some Naughty Nightwear, but there it is.

I also completed Veronica's quest, and told her she should decide what to do, so of course, she stayed with the Brotherhood.

Other than that, I've just been wandering, and finding stuff I've missed in previous runs.
