Yep. I remember doing the quests for Jack and Diane and getting the young guy into the Followers.

I do most of those type quests on my first runs normally and tend to let them slip if they don't directly impact whatever it is I'm trying to do on follow-on runs.

There are a ton of great side quests in New Vegas though, not to mention places...like the Thorn!

I just got in to Zion, and am wandering around with Follows-Chalk. Is there some way to know which peaks he'll uncover parts of the map for you on? Or did I totally misunderstand that?

Last time, I didn't have him around long enough to really figure it out.

Edit: well, I found one of those cliff locations, yay! It added three locations to my map. Only...12 left to go?

And I just spoke with Maven, inside Angel Cave. 'You show respect, owslander!' :P

Reading this thread I have again gotten the itch to play this despite trying to get through Infamous, Kingdoms of Amalur, and having recently gotten Dishonored and Assassin's Creed 3. I picked up my level 13 Courier and am now at level 17 after a couple days. Did Black Mountain, most of the Freeside quests and a couple Crimson Caravan quests. Gonna go farm the casinos soon I think.

I also am finally taking notice of the Gun Runners weapons and challenges...are any of the challenges worth doing? I'm gonna leave the weapons alone for a while since I only use what I find in the Wasteland.

You know, if the rewards were for more than just XP, maybe. But, I have no inherent desire to kill House with a 9 Iron or a Deathclaw with a .22 or switchblade, so to me, they aren't worth it for anything other than popping an achievement. I mean, I did those challenges in RDR, killing a mountain lion with a bowie knife and all, but it's just not one of those things that I feel I really have to do in New Vegas.

Having said that, killing 10 named Legionnaires with a Ranger Sequoia is something I might just have to do...not for the 1000 XP mind you, but for the pure enjoyment of it! Of course, pro-legion types can have their way in Armed for Bear using a chainsaw.  So it's probably all just a matter of player prospective and preference.

If earning a little XP, racking up achievements, or itching your inner completionist is your thing, it's probably something you want to do.

Just me though.

EDIT: Now, make the reward a GRA weapon of choice, commensurate with the difficulty, then you're on!

yeah, I was thinking the reward was better than XP.  thanks!

in my own New Vegas run, I did finally get Arcade and wrapped up some random quests. I did most of Jacobstown, killed all the Fiend leaders (except for Motor-Runner) and now am visiting some of the NCR camps with Boone. We did some of Camp Forlorn Hope and went to Camp Golf last night to meet Hanlon. Now we're gonna road trip to some of the NCR Ranger stations to do those radio upgrades.

I thought it worked when you went to any high ground. If there were discoverable locations nearby, then they would show up. Don't recall exactly though.

^ It seems pretty specific, judging by where I'm getting the message about locations being revealed. In the perk menu, it is called Well-Stacked Cairns, and specifically mentions ranger stations. The one I'm at didn't reveal the map locations or show the message until I went past the building, to the summit.

I shall have to look it up. It does give +3 PER for three minutes, for what that's worth. I'm already at nine, so... And I've already killed 5 Yao Guai, and I've just scratched the surface of the area.

Edit: I guess there are only six summits, and three are ranger stations. Well, one third done.

Inequality doesn't mean people should abuse women and torture people how the Caesar's Legion does. As I said before, even Caracalla and his legions weren't that bad.

The Enclave or The Brotherhood of Steel can both run fine governments, but Caesar's Legion is structurally flawed and unstable. But In western USA, only good candidates are NCR, The House and You. After Legion collapses (for reason like both Caesar and Legatus are killed), there will be hundreds of small territories each run by a Legion officer that are fighting each other to dominate and there will be more miseries for their people.

Zion is a small piece of land that makes you calm, it's much better than that New Vegas.

Yeah it's certain high summits, not all of them are ranger stations but those usually get you a Well Stacked Cairns (lol, that sounds dirty) notice. Also places like Sun Sentinels and I think the Red Gate, not sure on that last one. This time I jogged around with Follows Chalk and got the markers before advancing the quest. He's cute anyway. *pinches cheeks*

Has anyone figured out a way to get up to the fuselage of the airplane crash?

^ The last summit is called The Spine, and it's really close to the entrance of the canyon. That's the first one I found, actually.

I've just been wandering in Zion, with no real set agenda. I keep finding dead geckos, which makes me really sad, and tiny little ones, which makes me really happy (they're so cute!). So it's pretty much balanced in that regard. I've found a couple of quest locations that will be handy later, and have found two survivor caches.

Joshua Graham. Oh, it was nice to see him again.

@Addai - airplane crash?

There's a crashed airplane on the western side of the map. You should be able to see it from the ranger station that's near the Dead Horses camp. I can get to a wing portion, but couldn't find a way to get up to where the main fuselage is.

So started my PT on Fallout New Vegas last night.

Just finished everything in Goodsprings and routed the Powder Gangers.
Went with starting at 9 Intelligence.

Will post pictures later as I go.

Hooray, pics are always welcome!

I love the smarty pants builds. Especially with high charisma, + energy weapons. Best build ever (imho).

On a different note, how do you guys usually handle the Great Khans?

I used to kill Papa Khan, so Regis could took over, because...well, I don't think I realized at the time that I could let him live, and come to a peaceful accord. Now I always let him live - this time, I convinced him that they could make their own identity. Last time, I urged him to look to the Mongols for inspiration. I don't really know which option is the 'best' one.

Maybe it's simply his lovely voice, and conviction with looking after his people, but I don't think it's right to kill him off. That decision just sits better with me.

Having them launch a suicide attack at the dam seems a bit too much like something Caesar would do. Anyway, just musing.

My Courier encouraged Papa Khan to forge their own future, and they left as I claimed Vegas as an independent power. I usually play as an intelligent protagonist (although the low level intelligence Courier has funny dialogue), and get them to kill Karl by letting the Legion emmassary put his foot in his mouth, then convince Papa Khan to claim his own glory. I also get the Powder Gangers to join them through Lem.

I like that phase of the game the best...where you are actually counting rounds and playing cautiously because you are the furthest thing from a juggernaut.

When you get to the point you're not worrying about ammo anymore, or can regularly make hand loaded ammo, the game loses just a bit of it's luster...but it's still a ton of fun.

Yep, that's exactly how it played out for me. When I went to talk to Caesar for the first time, after getting the chip, I picked up his ledger on my way out. It's much easier than trying to get Karl's journal out of his room, although I suppose a stealth boy would work. Watching Karl lose his head, literally and figuratively, is hella fun.

I always side with Lem, too. It just seems a whole lot smarter than letting escaped convicts make even bigger bombs. Plus this way, Lem gets to live.

I didn't realize at first that Melissa (and Diane)'s voice actor is Zoë Bell. Now I hear her everywhere. I could listen to her all day.

I enjoyed Ghost Town Gun Fight myself really.

Kinda nice to pay the town back for saving you.
Plus getting called the "Powder Ganger's Grim Fing Reaper" is funny,

I didn't especially like the options for the Khans. What I really wanted them to do was chill (i.e. not behave like imperialists or take jobs like, well, assassinating me). However, if I tell them that their history-based aspirations are a dead end, they deliberately go and get themselves killed in a suicide attack. And if I encourage them, it seems at least questionable as to how they'll treat people in the new lands they leave to explore.

No, I'm walking the Lonesome Road now. Got a date with Ulysses and I think this Courier won't be able to resist lighting up the sky again. Caesar, meet Oppenheimer.

Now that I'm playing through everything again, after going through the DLC once, I'm really starting to notice how many times Ulysses gets mentioned the vanilla game. Like seriously, often.

I'm thinking that if I do TLR this time, Caesar is going to get a similar experience. Posted Image

Nuke 'em! That is righteous and good. Friggin' rock throwers.

Don't worry. House'll never notice they're missing. They don't know how to have fun or spend money anyway, so they're pretty much useless in the big picture.

I walked among the skirt wearers. Their idea of a good time is ogling the "neeewwww slave girls" who are "quiiiiite beeeaaauuutiful." Creeps.

Turn their turf to glass and make 'em glow I say.
