@Joy:

Sell them = Lot of caps! Base cap value is around 80 or so.

Or, if you're into poisons and chems, craft Turbo or Bleak Venom, or a few others.

Did you pick up Boone in Novac or ED-E in Primm? A companion is pretty helpful at this point. Boone will give you his spotter perk and is capable of one-shotting just about anything. ED-E will give you a big Perception bonus to see those Cazadores on your radar long before you get to them. You can actually have both of them at the same time, since ED-E is a machine.

Ah, cazadores. They're a real insect, as it turns out.

Looks so harmless there. If you get ED-E as a companion, and Boone, you get perception boosts so you can spot enemies on your compass before they see you. Like happy said, the cazodores are usually moving erratically. Only thing moves near that fast are deathclaws. Haven't met a deathclaw yet, have you? lol

The poison glands can be used in crafting recipes, or sell them.

@ Barbarossa: I think LR brings some good story closure, and ties a lot of loose ends together. It adds some depth to what you do in the base game, making it about more than conquest for the lulz. It's a demonstration of the consequences of even small actions. Ulysses actually talked me out of nuking the legion territory- it's what he was going to do, and it's satisfying, but too heavy a price to pay considering all the innocents who would suffer and die. As Ulysses says later if you talk to him in Hopeville, the legion is going to fall apart anyway without Caesar, Lanius and the Dam.

OK, that's very cool.

Ulysses talked me out of it the first time as well. Then, I just couldn't help myself. I felt the overwhelming need to hurry that whole falling apart thing along.

@Barbarossa - wow, you were really moved by Lonesome Road. You may have inspired me to play it again...but Marked Men, and Tunnelers...and ninja Deathclaws. I will probably play all of the DLCs again, against my better judgment. It will be painful, and I will blame you, but I will love and hate every moment of it (with TLR, anyway).

Do you know how many times I blew myself up by being too close to those nukes?

Blame it on me. I'm good with that. Posted Image

I had another question:

I've heard of a couple mods that integrated FO3 into F:NV, Requiem for the Wasteland and the more recent Tale of Two Wastelands. How stable would the latter be, and how are the various lists - form lists, levelled lists etc. - handled between the two? Would I need to edit F:NV's lists into the vanilla FO3-files by hand via FNVedit (easy enough, if time-consuming), or is that already taken care of?

Further, how's FO3's main-quest integrated there? Skipping the Vault-intro is a clear-enough matter, just curious about the rest.

Leveling is fairly quick in this game. I was about level 10 or so outside Novac when I ran into my first one. Got one-shotted twice before I took it as a serious threat. Right now I'm level 12 and got a quest to check out Vault 22 and I ran into a bunch of the f*#&@kers around some shack with a beer brewery in it. I haven't reloaded so much since I was first level in Baldur's Gate.

"Bet they don't have anything as nasty as Yao Guai out where you come from, huh?" Posted Image Oh yes.

Yeah, Cazadores are no joke. No joke, indeed. I've been playing the Honest Hearts add-on, and have been wrestling with giant versions of them, myself. They're pretty nasty.

I didn't realize until the night before last that Follows-Chalk doesn't use regular Antivenom if he has it in his inventory. He does, however, use Datura Antivenom. Now I figure that out. Ah, well. Better late than never. At least I (hopefully) don't have to hear "Oh, look... I'm not dead" quite as often. Hehe.

@Joy - while I'm thinking of it, if you fight any named Fiends (Violet, Cook-Cook, Nephi), do not head shot them. Shoot them anywhere else but the head.

Sweet. Posted Image It will be some time, as I'll likely do Dead Money, then Old World Blues before I get to that. I'm already shaking in my boots about that collar in DM.

I'm going to try Courier's Mile again, too. We'll both be cussing out Barbarossa, heh.

@ Barbarossa- I was thinking that an atrocity like that might rally the leftovers of the legion, and make people hate and fear you in the wrong way. Just can't help but think that the karma of something like that would ripple in bad ways.

I was thinking more about Ulysses' story and I think it also makes sense in light of what Caesar does to the tribes. I think the worst thing he does is strip people of identity. One of Ulysses' holotapes talks about being the last of the Twisted Hairs and seeing the White Legs adopt his hairstyle without knowing what it means. So Ulysses' search for a new country, and new symbols, makes sense in light of that. And when he thinks he's found it, it gets destroyed. I liked being able to talk him down using stuff he said in his own holotapes. It feels like you didn't just manipulate him, you both actually found some resolution and something to take away from it all that was neither hopelessness nor a sugar-coated moral lesson.

Of course what this really means is that Ulysses and the female Courier need to soothe their sorrows in one night of passion and have a love child that heals the land.   Somewhere, Chris Avellone shakes his head and sighs.

@ Chashan: Don't know anything about those mods, sorry. I think Bethesda nixed the Requiem mod because it essentially gave people a free copy of FO3.

I'll have to look that up, to see what it entails. IIRC, the last time I did, something about it freaked me the hell out, and kept me from even going there. I didn't even get the Fist of Rawr in that run, tbh. I'm such a chicken.

So yeah. How many times did you get incinerated before completing the Vault 22 quest? And how are you supposed to manage that if you did not fortunately just happen to have one long-stick dynamite in the inventory?

If you stand back in the doorway of the room where you download the info, you can shoot the wall by the vents with a laser weapon, and live through it. As soon as you shoot, back up. The fire doesn't go into that room, it mostly goes straight ahead, and into the other rooms.

If you're fast enough, you also have time to close the door in that room. The fire won't get you through a closed door.

Or if all else fails, drink an Atomic cocktail first. The energy resist should keep you alive. Posted Image

The fire can still kill you in the mainframe room- as my "game over" music in this run attests. Closing the door quickly saved me on the reload.

So anyone else get a little giggle out of watching Boone headshot Legion dudes over and over again?

I just got out of Novac and suddenly he killed some legion scum I could not even see.
I waited to get him before I went anti-legion..

That way I dont miss any history points, and have an easier time with them.

He sort of makes the game too easy to the point where I never travel with him. On the other hand, I started a new playthrough recently to finally try all the DLC, and I'm finding ED-E and Veronica keep getting themselves killed unless I make them wait in the distance.

Is there a mod for New Vegas that improves enemy AI, so enemies use their own stimpaks and chems etc?

Oops, maybe I forgot that part. Yes, close the door. Posted Image

In this last run, I had Lily and ED-E in one of the other rooms, told them to wait, and closed the door. I thought I was being a dear, and keeping them safe. The blast opened the door to the room they were in, knocking them unconscious anyway.

Boone: "Too bad there aren't more. I wasn't done yet."

I actually got a mod that nerfs him a bit. Kill-stealer that he is.

It's funny when you spot an enemy before he does, take the shot, and he gets annoyed, saying "what's your problem."  Ha. Watch and learn, First Recon dude.

Speaking of that, it's funny when you get the quest to retrieve the NCR guy's body, and the NCR peeps cowering behind their sandbags tell you about how his body is booby trapped- one dialogue choice is "Yeah yeah, this isn't rocket science. Watch and learn."   I had to take that option even though I've got good rep with the NCR. They're such morons sometimes.

I usually make my companions wait up on the second floor with Keely while I do that part. They dont really need to come down since I've done everything else by that point.

They've earned a coffee break. Posted Image

Have you used Lily much? She was super handy in Vault 22. I was able to take advantage of stealth to get the drop on all of those Spore Bastardos before they got to me.

Lily makes me laugh but I dont get much use out of her. Lily and Raul are on my list of companions I really want to use more but never seem to get around to.

Cass & Ed-E are my usual go to pair. Especially this run, when I finally realized Cass has the Shotgun Surgeon perk. I usually swap her to lever action rifles, but kept her on shotguns this time to tremendous effect.

Plus the Whiskey Rose perk is highly useful when you're melee. Especially if you have decent Survival.

Speaking of shotguns, I took care of all those Sporemen with ease this run using Big Boomer and Dragons Breath rounds. One shotted them with minimal aiming while they were still standing up.

Yeah, Lily and Raul are typically my bench-warmers, I'm sad to say.

I actually used Arcade and Veronica quite a bit, early on, then switched over to Boone, to kill some Legionaries. I always use ED-E, until I get a new brain for Rex. Then I bring him along for a couple of days, then switch back.

I really haven't had Cass with me much this time around - I think it's because I haven't done anything with McLafferty or the Van Graffs yet, and I feel guilty. I had no idea she had Shotgun Surgeon; this might change our relationship.

For the Spore-turds, I just used my trusty Laser Rifle with weapon mods, and left them in little piles of ash. Good times were had by all.

Veronica and Ed-E are my usual team until I get to Vegas since I can't recruit Cass until I visit Crimson Caravans and head all the way back. I try to get all Veronica/Brotherhood releated quests out of the way en route. After which I let her hang out in the Presidental suite for the rest of the game. Unlike Cass, she seems to enjoy hanging out there ("Can I order room service?")

Rex, Lily and Raul I usually take along just enough to do their respective quests. I never feel too guilty about leaving them in the Suite to keep Veronica company.

Boone and Arcade I never bother recruiting at all. I dont like recruiting people who I don't really need or intend to use who would be doing much more important work if I left them where I found them. Arcade is a prime example of this. Boone I feel is better left keeping Novac safe.

...And he annoys me with constant kill cam animations of enemies I havent even seen yet. Posted Image

I always tell Lily to go back to Jacobstown. I guess I worry about the Bighorners. I mean...who's going to take care of them, if she's hanging out at the Lucky 38? And does she fit through the door frames? I have no idea.

This time, I let Raul go back to his shack...maybe he'll feed that poor malnourished Brahmin outside his door. And that Vaquero suit and the skulking last time was too much.

You don't get Arcade or Boone? Huh. That's an interesting take on them, tbh. I guess I'm a bit more selfish when I play. How can they benefit me?

I think you're right about Veronica. She likes sleeping in my Courier's bed. Posted Image

Ha Ha...when you're living at 400-600 rads with Deathclaws and Marked Men who never miss swarming you...it will all be my fault! Posted Image
Just remember five words on Courier's Mile: "Explosive rounds and satchel charges"...you heard it here folks.Posted Image

You're probably right about Karma biting you in the ass with the nuclear option, but then again, if we're thorough enough in decap-ing all the leadership of a megalomaniacal regime of dark age brutality, anything might be considered an improvement for those living under such. But, then again, maybe not...New Vegas is for gamblers.

In all honesty I don't like the nuke option. I'm with you that it will probably make things worse. I remember writing something early in this thread after playing LR the first time, that I was more exhausted of war than anything and couldn't do it; couldn't take Ulysses out either. I think that's what Obsidian was shooting for.

Speaking of which...are there Black Widow options with Ulysses?  Never thought about it and never played a fem Courier, so just wondering if a female character gets that automatic edge on him.

What's worse is a Turbo Rex. He will chase retreating Legionnaires (literally) across the map. And out of nowhere you get a kill cam, sometimes minutes after an engagement...long after you've looted and moved on to the next thing.

Boone is a big time kill stealer, but he's easily nerfed with his hunting rifle at higher levels. By that time, you're either in high end energy weapons or Anti-Materiel Rifles showing him what's what. For an anti-Legion Courier, I have a hard time leaving Boone behind.

Apparently the doors in my Vault 22 are not as sturdy. That was the third idea I had and the fire explosion simply blew the doors off the hinges and consumed me...

Second idea was the fire resist cocktail and since there was an idea three, that should tell you how that went :wizard:

Long stick dynamite + turbo to the elevator ftw!
