Question here. I stopped using Tale of Two Wastelands, its a good mod but its in alpha and having to deal with the myriad of problems that comes with using FO3 mods for New Vegas just got too tedious and boring.

I'm thinking I want to play Fallout 3 by itself with mods. So is there some way to get rid of GFWL? I've heard that's the source of the issues with Fallout 3.

I wouldn't have a clue of how to do that. I know its all still tacked on even in the Steam edition, but miraculously my last run was fairly smooth. The .ini tweak actually fixed my inability to play the game.

EDIT: Right now its New Vegas that's giving me a fit. I can't play 5 minutes without it freezing on me. Any ideas would be appreciated. Although I've pretty much tried everything. Playing NV on my 360 at present...and I hate not having my mods!

FO1-3 Enclave lovers gonna hate BOS. That's undeniable.
I assume BOS is doing well in the east, but I doubt they can send any reinforcements to Mojave.

About the Legion:
If we destroy Caesar and Legate's forces: They will be weakened and possibly turn into many small territories. The Chaos will be there for years, they cannot expand to the east.
If we side with Caesar and Legate's forces: They will conquer all mid-west and likely go to conquer the east. The Rocky Mountains is a great barrier to stop any technologically low forces.

I see, I think there's a mod that does that. I guess I'll check it out later. Can't help with 360 New Vegas, all I know is that if its on a console, the problems are more common.

Actually, its PC New Vegas that is freezing on me all the time...constantly. It's so bad, that it has forced me to console.

It mainly depends on how good your PC is though. If you are going to get it on console , get it on Xbox 360. It will run better at least . I have it on PS3 ....bad choice to get it on PS3.

Well, I played NV on 360 originally about (what?) 3 + years ago, and put in about 250 hours with all DLCs. I liked it so much, I decided to download it on a Steam sale to play it with mods, and commenced to putting in another 750 hours over the next couple of years on my PC.

The freezing issue on PC is a recent occurrence, and has been happening constantly, just as I was getting back into the game.

That's the only reason I resorted back to my 360 game, so I could just play the game.

I have the ultimate edition on PS3. During long session of play it would freeze up, sometimes 3 times a session. Is there a way to import save data from a PS3 to a 360?

Well there are some mods I can suggest, that fix some of those issues.

New Vegas Stutter Remover, it fixed the constant crashing I was having in Gomorrah
The 4GB launcher, it allows new vegas to use more RAM
New Vegas Enhanced Content, or at least the bugfix and reduce CTD plugin that it has, if you're not interested in the whole mod, which is pretty big.
New Vegas Anti Crash

Sometimes the game CTDs because as save was corrupted, or became bloated. Starting a new game can help, if that is the case.

I doubt it, and if there is, it probably has to go through some sort of converter to change its format from PS3 to 360. Who knows if those saves would come out unharmed after that change, if it were possible anyway.

I didn't think there was a way to do that, but its just that the PS3 can' handle the game too good. Port New Vegas to PS4!!!

@Splinter Cell. Have tried NV Anti Crash. I even wiped my save files, then eventually uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I completely cleaned out my computer as well to rule out anything system wise. Like I said, I've tried pretty much everything.

I haven't tried Stutter Remover (but man do I need it having watched stutter since the beginning) or the 4GB launcher yet though. I will check those. I'm also getting ready to upgrade my video card and back-up, wipe and re-install my OS as well. I would have done these last things anyway since it's probably time for a little maintenance.

You're not using any crazy mods or anything of the sort? Say like Warzones or something? Otherwise, all I can say is that the game doesn't like to behave sometimes.

Unlikely, its a 4 year old game, and the console overlords would never allow it. If they didn't hamper modding someone would have done it or better yet, they would have probably extinguished the PS3 problems. It's Sony's loss, they'd get free patching if they allowed modding.

@Splinter Cell: No, not any crazy mods. I only add in armors and weapons, follower sandbox and improved third person camera. I don't even have Nevada Skies, EVE, or NMCs Texture Pack on any longer after the wipe.

I'm of the opinion that it is your latter suggestion, that the game insists on not behaving at times!

It is probably that, it took me a while to get my game to stop crashing all the time. Seems like that's the runaround with Bethesda games, they should definitely give the boot to that engine. Especially now, that they own a developers that specializes in Engines.

IDTech5 is a great looking game engine. I just wonder if it can do everything they need it to do for a FO type open-world, dialogue and crafting heavy type of game. I just don't know enough about game engines to have an informed opinion.

Whatever they did from Oblivion to Skyrim seemed to work...well, at least it worked well enough. Give us a FO game that's at least that stable...please. Sure, there were glitches and things that wouldn't flag, but I have never been in a situation where I was unable to play Skyrim at all.

I'm sure its possible, engines are used for all types of games. Take Unreal Engine as an example, it has been used for a myriad of different games. They could choose to do Skyrim on CryEngine if they wanted, the reason they don't is precisely because they know Gamebryo so well, that it is easier to use, means less costs from licensing and other stuff. But now they're in posession of Id Tech 5, an engine they own, is mod friendly and more stable than gamebryo, they'd be fools not to use it. One example of that engine is Call of Duty, it has been using a modified Quake engine since COD4, or at least thats as far as I know. I don't know if earlier call of duty games used but I know from 4 onward they have been.

You know I find it hilarious how OP it seems the Legion hit squads are at times.
Especially when they throw 3 plasma grenades at once.

Yeesh.

regarding the BoS...

I'm planning to kill them all this playthrough. Really dont like their technology keeping and lack of interest in working with other factions. And that collar stunt was a straw that broke my Courier's back.

I hit level 24 on my character tonight and am starting to finally turn toward the Strip. Just going to take care of Nelson and than its off to kill Benny. For endgame, I plan to go Independent ultimately, unless Mr. House makes a really convincing argument...

If the BoS were 100% filled with bigots, I wouldn't give it a second thought about killing them off.... but, there are actually decent people in there who don't really want to hurt anyone, and want to research technology or keep going with their daily lifes without meddling on other people business. Of course, taking them out of the picture would make life much easier for everyone, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I just started a new character on FONV this past week after finally going back and putting the finishing touches on my Good Karma Independent run. I decided to play a little bit more of a suboptimal character this time who sometimes makes bad or impulsive decisions, and I won't necessarily always reload if something doesn't go exactly how I planned. She's loosely based on Kate from "Lost" in terms of her history and general outlook on things, though she's probably going to side with NCR in the end - I figure she's put her more checkered days behind her and has a more positive view of law enforcement after experiencing the danger of working as a courier.

Speaking of which, I managed to have one of my more chaotic moments just recently. I was en route from the Mojave Outpost to Nipton when some radscorpions came after me, and when I turned around to shoot them, one of them was also fighting with a Jackal gang member. The Jackal guy started shooting at me even after I killed the scorpion that was attacking him (ungrateful ****!), and pretty soon his friends joined in on the action. Having relatively few stimpaks and weak armor, I threw some dynamite on the ground hoping the smoke would obscure their view (I have no idea if the game actually takes account of that but it seemed like the in-character thing to do). I managed to shake them as I got closer to the town, only to run smack into both that woman who kills her partner over the blue-starred bottle caps and the guy who won the Legion's lottery, who ran off into the desert and promptly got shot by the Jackals. I initially tried to protect him but they took him down with just a few shots, at which point I high-tailed it back to the town. Needless to say, I did *not* attempt to fight Vulpes and his crew - no way would I have survived that.

That's why you need to play on Hardcore with high survival skill. Those Gecko steaks heal as much as any stimpack and are cheaper to make or buy (looks kinda of tasty too!). Also sounds like you are running in the middle of the desert, stick to road. Less critters there. And remember, the Cowboy repeater is your best friend at low levels!

I am playing Hardcore, though too much eating in the middle of combat breaks the immersion for me a little bit.

I think I was crouch-walking through a space just down the hill from the road, not in the middle of the desert but on the edge of one of the sand-clouds. If I'd just walked straight down the road, the Jackals would have ambushed me.

I find myself doing this more often in New Vegas. I think it may have more to do with game familiarity than anything else though. With a new game, I'm usually tracking toward good, noble, high karma, etc. After I've played several playthroughs, I tend to just let things happen, like when I accidentally killed a slave at Cottonwood Cove.  I let it go and let the outcomes be more "natural."

As it is, not having checked my rep for a while, I was shocked to actually find myself Karma-neutral on this current playthrough. Very unusual for my Couriers, but the game does respond differently. I did do a lot of thieving (really only trying to accumulate resources quickly, rather than to get rich), and the semi-chaos is apparent in my dealings with the NCR and Legion, although the NCR still sort of "likes" me, and the Legion has declared me in damnatio memoriae, and sends out the hit squads.

The same is happening to my characters, usually I've got good karma but I'm almost at level 20 and I'm neutral. The Legion is at odds with me as well, I think I've already taken out at least 5 of their death squads. But my character is more of a mercenary, I don't really side with anyone yet, most of the times I get in NCR's good graces but stick with House. The NCR needs to learn a lesson if they ever want to get somewhere.
