Interesting, I'll probably do that then.

I forgot to post this last night but apparently Chomps Lewis died in my game randomly. I went to tell him I was clearing out Quarry Junction for his Stimpak bonus and found him dead on the ground. Reloaded an old save from 20 hours earlier and he was the same way (but in a slightly different spot). Not sure if it was a deathclaw or bark scorpion or what but he is gone.

Breeding issues are pretty huge in cultures that took a big step back from infant mortality progress made in the last 100-200 years. Prior to the last few centuries, infant mortality was often around 50%-ish. Child mortality (prior to age 12) was about 60%. Those are pretty awful odds of reaching adulthood.

Remember that Caesar's Legion is basically a roving army that continually breaks down and absorbs tribes that it conquers. That can only go on for so long, and Legionaries who are indoctrinated from birth are even more loyal than adolescents who are integrated. Breeding new generations of Legionaries is vital for the Legion's continued existence.

Even though breeding is incredibly important in the Legion, there isn't any concept of family outside of the Legion's structure. All of the places where the player encounters the Legion are forward camps where direct military service is given the most weight and is of the most immediate importance. Because only males are involved in that service, they look down upon females even though it's incredibly short-sighted.

The additional Legion locations would have had more traveling non-Legion residents of Legion territories. The Fort and Cottonwood Cove made sense as heavy military outposts where the vast majority of the population consisted of soldiers and slaves. The other locations would have had more "civilians". It's not accurate to think of them as citizens of the Legion (the Legion is purely military), but as non-tribal people who live in areas under Legion control.

While Caesar intentionally enslaves NCR and Mojave residents in the war zone, most of the enslavement that happens in the east happens to tribals. As Raul indicates, there are non-tribal communities that came under Legion control a long time ago. The additional locations would have shown what life is like for those people.

The general tone would have been what you would expect from life under a stable military dictatorship facing no internal resistance: the majority of people enjoy safe and productive lives (more than they had prior to the Legion's arrival) but have no freedoms, rights, or say in what happens in their communities. Water and power flow consistently, food is adequate, travel is safe, and occasionally someone steps afoul of a legionary and gets his or her head cut off. If the Legion tells someone to do something, they only ask once -- even if that means an entire community has to pick up and move fifty miles away. Corruption within the Legion is rare and Caesar deals with it harshly (even by Legion standards).

In short, residents of Legion territories aren't really citizens and they aren't slaves, but they're also not free. People who keep their mouths shut, go about their business, and nod at the rare requests the Legion makes of them -- they can live very well. Many of them don't care at all that they don't have a say in what happens around them (mostly because they felt they never had a say in it before the Legion came, anyway)

J.E Sawyer Quote on the Legion and one of the few things i ever bothered agreeing with the man about.

I always play DM first. Sheer resources alone make it worthy of playing first.

Once you've piled up enough stims, RAD-X, Rad-Away, and .308 rounds from the vending machines, go to a holo-vendor and sell everything you don't want for pre-war money. I re-visited all the holo-vendors after dealing with Elijah, and sold three gold bars and a boatload of loot, and took it all in pre-war money. Still left with two bars for keepsakes. Take what you can out of the Sierra Madre, and you'll be fairly rich at the end, with the ability to buy anything, in as many quantities as you want, back in the Mojave.

I personally think the DLCs flow best in the order of release. DM, HH, OWB and LR.

You can sell stuff for pre-war money? I had always thought someone made a mistake with those vendors. I wish casinos didn't ban you for life, I'd really like to gamble again at the Sierra Madre.

No but you can "exhange" goods to cover debts that normally caps would.

I tend to do that with spare automatic rifles and guard armor i encounter.

Next time I go in there I'll use those guys, I normally only stick to the vending machines.

Yeah, you'll be able to exchange your pre-war money for goods. The good thing about Pre-war money is that it has a fairly set trade value (9-12 caps or so) that will transfer in kind back in the Mojave... and...it's weightless! That allows you to carry the good stuff you want to keep from the SM, since we can't go back, and bankroll the rest in a weightless trade item.

You can also exchange your pre-war money for Sierra Madre chips at the holo-cashier in the SM casino at a one for one exchange rate.

I had literally thousands in pre-war money when I left the Sierra Madre, and exchanged it for caps back in the Mojave in small, manageable amounts going from vendor to vendor.

BTW, I'm well into Honest Hearts and finally got my Desert Ranger Combat Armor. Thank you Randall Clark!

The best part of Honest Hearts is getting the Survivalist Rifle.

I killed an entire Legion hit squad with just one clip and a hit of TURBO GRX.
It felt good man it felt good.

First time I heard that was over the Big MT loudspeakers as I was sneaking up on roboscorpions or something. I literally busted out laughing.

I still have a few things to do in Zion, then I'll be heading there. Always look forward to going to Big MT.

Nah i was talking about Dr.Klein

He says as much every time you wander around the Think Tank near him.

Pretty humorous but the entire first 30 plus minute conversation with the Think Tank always makes me laugh :P

Has anyone else used the Star Paladin Cross companion loophole (two companions at once, without mods) in Fallout 3?

I haven't used that in FO3. I do use Companion Menagerie in New Vegas, which is excellent.

That actually sounds interesting for FO3 though. Isn't there another companion system that allows multiple hires in FO3? I just can't remember it right now.

There's probably many, most big overhaul mods might have them. I think I've got one of those overhauls doing that but I don't know. I suppose FOOK2 might do it, but I'd only recommend downloading it if you're interested in more than just multiple companions since the mod adds a huge amount of stuff.

Basically the loophole can only happen the first time you talk with Star Paladin Cross. You need A) good karma B) A follower already (I usually do it with Butch). After she finishes her conversation about James she will tell the player that she wants to ask her/him something, two dialogue options come up, if you take the bottom one she will join you regardless.

The top dialogue is basically reading her mind regarding her question as you ask her to join you, she declines due to the player having a follower already.

The bottom option is the player saying "its not like I could stop you" or something to that effect, she laughs at this and the result is her becoming a follower. LOL. Its that easy.

I've done this on both PC and Xbox 360.

Clover is my personal favorite FO 3 companion; Suit her up in Combat Armor and give her plenty of stimpacks and upgrade her melee weapon and she is basically an armored deathclaw :P

Plus the fact that you actually "own" her just tickles me.

I'm going to have to say old World Blues is boring enough that I just want to get it over with. I think I've done about half of the Sink's upgrades. Will I miss out on anything notable if I just finish the main quest there?

No, not really. Just finish the main quest and you can be done fairly quick. Big MT is gigantic and to explore it will take some time. No need to do all that if you're not having fun.

OWB is my favorite because I love to explore and I love 50s science fiction, which OWB is hilariously over the top in its portrayal. In fact, I am there right now as we speak. Story-wise there are a lot of heavy references to Christine (why she is the way she is in DM), Ulysses (who you haven't met yet) and Elijah which tie in all the DLCs together rather neatly.

Also, OWB is a very different game if you have a high intelligence, perception and science scores. I don't, so I pop Mentats and wear Mad Scientist Scrubs and Dr. Mobius' glasses when I talk to the Think Tank.

^ I'm generally not a fan of separate zones, especially when you cannot leave said zone and it's huge. Every time I leave the Sink I've got to kill a half dozen night-stalkers just to get anywhere and then i have to kill another half dozen when i leave a random building. Half my guns have no ammo.

Whatever enthusiasm I had after the initial conversation and the questline has been drained by the respawns.
