@Joy,

And that is the tough part of OWB. All Nightstalkers and Cazadores are far stronger than their Mojave counterparts (whose existence we find out we owe to Dr. Borous, who happens to be delusional enough to believe they are confined to Big MT). But they are far hard to kill in Big MT.

It's especially "fun" with all those damn lobotomites running around as well, who are really only bullet sponges, but are a complication when combined with a nightstalker swarm. Explosives are effective if you have them. The spawns begin to fall off as you clear Big MT and progress forward in the main quest. I don't mind the combat because by this time I have the guns I want and have purchased or crafted enough ammo and explosives to field my own army.

The Sink is also the best home in the game (unmodded), because its the one area that offers everything you need: reloading and work benches, with a hot plate, fridge, good storage, vendor, etc, all in one place.

EDIT: BTW, did you do Dead Money yet?

The night stalkers in OWB were terribly annoying, every single time you got near the area with the hexagonal shaped buildings or whatever they threw about 10 night stalkers every time. The riot shotgun is another ideal weapon in that place along with the LMG and any explosive weapons. The Cyberdogs were another annoyance as well.

One thing you can do with OWB though is getting filthy rich, the weapons the lobotomites and those skeleton things use are very expensive, if you've got a high repair, you'll end up with a bunch of expensive loot to sell in the sink and the Mojave.

My favorite wasn't OWB though, it was Lonesome Road, OWB lacked seriousness in my opinion and although that is one of its features, I like it best when things are more serious. Well at least the moral dilemma of Think Tank was really kind of dark. I ended up having those bastards killed, I don't trust them, not one bit and the things they've done to the people there were terrible. The only one I let live was Dr. Mobius.

My personal solution for Nightstalkers in OWB is a 25mm APW with HE rounds. Rapid fire explosives for swarms of enemies that rarely leaves anything standing afterward. Anything that does happen to live is always crippled and by that time I've reloaded.

The only challenge is PER-ing them early enough to get the drop on them, so I'm not firing explosive at point blank range.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. Animal Friend. Well, at least for the Nightstalkers. Image IPB

I've never taken it. Like I always say: "I'll have to try that."

You gotta admit though, blowing them to smithereens has its appeal. :)

Neither have I and I never meet the requirements either. I don't know what is needed for it but its a skill I don't invest in. If its charisma I'm out of luck I always leave that at 2, I prefer to spend in strength, intelligence and luck.

Yep, Charisma 6 and Survival 45.

Rules me out as well because I dock Charisma (and PER as well, relying on augments) to invest in ST, IN and LCK as well. I'm not usually investing seriously into Survival either until very late in the game prepping for Dead Money and HH.

Having said that I still have yet to play a cowboy character like I've always wanted. Animal friend would seem to go with the character. But it is really going to be hard for me to give up my "black guns" and high power explosives focus for lever actions, survival and dynamite. But, I've got it pretty well worked out how I'm going to approach it when the time comes.

Animal Friend is not worth it.

All that free XP just comes right at me without out.

Giggles, you big meanie head. There is absolutely nothing more awesome than watching geckos, nightstalkers, etc. just doing their thing. They have the cutest mannerisms EVER!

Actually, my personal favorite was watching the Yao Guai in FO3 napping. They curl up in a ball and wheeze. Too bad the Yao Guai in Zion resist my mad charms.

I'm just a big softie.

Natural born killas, all of you!

I kept thinking I'd hear someone, anyone, tell my Courier, 'heard about you and your honeyed words'. :D I'm all about the sweet talking. Mostly my charm is wasted. Le sigh.

Natural born killas?

Well Happy, you might be interested to know that I just took out a pack of 5 Nightstalkers with my 25mm Grenade Launcher...with High Explosive rounds! I have the Bloody Mess perk as well...oh, and somewhere between 6 and 8 (I lost count really, and there wasn't enough left intact to truly know for sure) Lobotomites decided they wanted my Courier's BRAAAIIINNNS (or non-brain I suppose) darn near at the same time. None of them even got close....

...it was a mess of embarrassing proportions. I was looting reds spots and pieces of...I don't know what.

And I felt really, really bad about myself! Image IPB Some natural born killa! Hmmph.Image IPB

Well...now that I think about it, I guess I wouldn't say I felt bad...um...sort of neutral, maybe? Image IPB

OKAY, OKAY...I felt good about it...because it was awesome and hilarious at the same time, because the one lobotomite that managed to survive the carnage of the previous minute had two bars of health left, was grievously crippled, and was trying to hobble away when I threw Nuka-grenade at him to finish him off, and ended up making a real mess...and...I...wish I had video!Image IPB I guess I sort of got caught up in the moment.Image IPB

Alright...you win.Image IPB

It was a compliment, truly. If I had half of that instinct, I'd probably fare better than I do.

I would have loved to watch a video of your lobotomite slaughter, though. It sounds like it was epic!

But I feel for those poor nightstalkers. Poor little buddies. :D

So with the end of Old World Blues...

I never did catch the reason in the first place why all those scientists turned themselves into machines. Was it immortality so they could continue their pursuit of science in perpetuum? I also didn't get why they thought infinite loops in their programming which made them forget their human names and memories was a good idea - was this to purge any human impediments to research (psychological or ethical)?

I also never understood why the "malfunction" of the sink's autodoc operation procedure was never corrected. I can only guess that the Think Tank *wanted* the lobotomite zombies wandering around for their test procedures. But I don't remember any actual dialogue or reading on a terminal (possible since I started to skip them) confirming that indeed the "malfunction" of the auto-doc was intentional.

In any event, my courier "reasoned" with Morbius to get my brain back. Then I introduced him to a bottlecap mine. Mercy killing. As for Josef Mengele and his proteges in the Think Tank, the grenade machine gun was too good for them.

I let them all live, even Mobius. ;) Did you get all the upgrades for the sink?

So how many of the DLCs have you done, Joy?

Honestly.

I want to edit together a movie of all the DLC endings, the intro and the ending slides for my courier.
Still got to beat Dead Money and Lonesome Road.

Here's the way I see it.

Yes, everything about Big MT is SCIENCE!  But, I think it has more to do with maintaining and staying entrenched in the safety of their preconceived notions...forgetting....and continuing along with the only thing they know to do...science, without new knowledge.

It all probably started out exciting and new at Big MT, but even before the bombs dropped, there were some serious ethical issues surrounding the science of Big MT...and that of the old world for that matter. Little Yangtze is a perfect example of this. Using Chinese prisoners as test subjects, wearing bomb collars. This is where a man like Elijah (and new world man, obsessed with old world technologies) would naturally gravitate to, in order to work on the explosive collars he uses on the Courier and others at the Sierra Madre.

The Think Tank's eager readiness to wipe their memories if they feel threatened by new findings is evident.  After Ulysses came through recently and asked them a lot of questions about "history"...the history of America, the history of the Old World, they were beginning to remember...and they didn't like that at all. It was much easier to purge their memories, protect themselves from their abominable experiments gone awry, and continue along their long slow path of decay, than face the horrors they've inflicted upon the world. Dr. Borous won't even acknowledge the clear fact that his personal abominations, cazadores and nightstalkers, are no longer contained in Big MT...that they have, in fact, escaped out into the world. They're all delusional, leaking bio-gel, and that's the comfort zone they've created, and ruthlessly maintain, for themselves.

For me, it was a quandary. Sure, they all deserve to be destroyed, but the world is in a bad way. Maybe the Think Tank could still do something for what remains of humanity, and undo a lot of what they've inflicted upon the world, under the strict, adult supervision of an intelligent Courier of good Karma...and maybe find some sense of redemption? My Courier figured if they proved to be too far gone or even remotely dangerous, well, he could pull the plug on them at any time.

If you ask me they can't be trusted or controlled. Dr. Mobius tried it and it didn't work, I don't think the Courier will do any better. If you lie to them and tell them you're Mobius, what happens when they find out? They already figured it out once, they can do so again. If you don't lie to them, they might just get bored again and decide that whatever you promised them isn't worth it.

These people are unstable, they've been cooped up in that place for ages, it doesn't help that they put themselves in jars. They're insane, and the crimes they've committed are beyond redemption, they've got a history of cruel murder on their hands. They do not deserve to have a free pass, regardless of what they could or couldn't do. It was people like them that destroyed the world, either by themselves or by enabling others to do so. If you ask me Big MT needs to be sealed from everyone, that place has too many dangerous secrets which could end up in the hands of people like the Enclave, the Brotherhood or Steel or other deviants.

^^ Yes. They are too smart to willingly remain under anyone's supervision. Morbius seemed to accept this in the conversation my courier had with him. The bill is way too high for redemption.

Sure, and I agree in most part. My Courier was willing to give it a try though, especially as a House follower. The way he saw it, no harm could come from it. Role playing it, the Courier could rig Big MT to implode in on itself and destroy it forever with the touch of a button. He or she already has the power to end the Think Tank. And perhaps that is the right answer. But, to me there's time to allow that to reveal itself. House wants to make the world a better place through technology and trade. Big MT could (not saying it will) assist in attaining that vision.

The Courier is a big enough personality to be the driving force behind an NCR, Legion or House victory. He or she is certainly willful enough to gain an independent Vegas. Overseeing Big MT, and eliminating threats while maintaining anything that might be considered good or valuable in their view, is not beyond his or her abilities.

The Courier will always be in and out of Big MT, assuming he or she survives the Divide and the second battle of Hoover Dam. The Think Tank is contained as a threat at this point. Maybe they're too far gone, maybe they are beyond redemption, maybe they won't be able to produce anything of value. But then again, in the severe environment of a post-apocalyptic world in ruin, maybe they can assist in providing valuable technologies. Maybe they can somehow help a world under significant environmental stress. Maybe not. The one thing my Courier knew for sure is that he would never know the answer to that question if he destroyed them outright, right then and there.

There may be something of value, something good, in Big MT after hundreds of years of research. It really comes down to the quandary of does one use good technology, derived by bad or unethical practices, or flat out destroy it as the product of abominable means. Tough question with many variables, and many possible answers, if you ask me. My Courier would take the time to find out. Is it worth the effort? He would know in time.

Role playing it, like House, Big MT would be the Courier's domain; ruling it as a sort of benign, but firm, autocrat. If they can't produce, or they just get "bored," if they ARE beyond redemption or the price is too high...well...the delete button is always there.

Okay I love the Mauler attack with the Knife Spear.

Getting a sneak kill and watching a Ghost Person go flying is funny.

Yeah, its very effective. I couldn't wait to craft a Knife Spear Clean to make an even better knife spear. I was down to my last three cosmic knives clean before I remembered I needed to make a better knife spear. It's a good weapon for Ghost People.

And Stay Back! is useful as well, so the few 20 GA rounds I had for my Caravan shotgun were useful in knocking them down better than half the time, so I could finish them off with melee weapons.

I hate ghost people.

This run of Dead Money is funny.

Not a single person (outside of numerous Radroaches and Ghost People) dies.
Elijah is locked in the Vault and everyone leaves alive.
Except him who is locked in a vault.

Hah.
Anyone want to make a bet on how long he lasts?

You kept Dean alive?

Edit: Was going to capture Elijah on this last run and dorked it up...ended up killing him with an MFC Cluster. It was pretty hilarious since it blew him halfway across the room and over the rail to fall to his death.

Oh well...bonus!

I do like the exchange between Uylesses and the new Courier six at the heart of the Divide i really do :P

Even convincing the Legion Traitor rather then just ending him for his affront to Caesar has a certain appeal merely for him to give voice to what (I personally believe he thought was the truth all along) That the Legion has the possibility to become an actual Nation, An Actual Empire.

Just needs the chance and we will have a lovely Rome 2.0 right in the Southwestern United States.
