Yeah I kept Dean alive this run.
Fit my Courier I guess.

Still though he deserves to die quite a bit since a lot of what happened is his fault. Like the blackmailing Vera thing, trying to rob a guy just because he was happier, and for the whole trying to blow you up when you meet him. Plus the whole thing with Christine.

I liked in one run just opening the door and nailing him in the face with the Holorifle.

So how many of the DLCs have you done, Joy?

Missed this.  Just Old World Blues.  Right now I'm at the beginning of the one in Sierra Madre with Elijah and the collar.
I recuited God, which to me sounds more impressive than Dog.  But I have the feeling Dog would be mechanically better (I am assuming there is a choice here?  That's the way I interpreted the conversation.)

So with the end of Old World Blues...

I never did catch the reason in the first place why all those scientists turned themselves into machines. Was it immortality so they could continue their pursuit of science in perpetuum? I also didn't get why they thought infinite loops in their programming which made them forget their human names and memories was a good idea - was this to purge any human impediments to research (psychological or ethical)?

From what I gathered...

They likely turned themselves into machines after the bombs fell. Their reasoning could be a variety of things: survival, continuing science, and ambition.

They did not intend for the infinite loops in their programming: that was a trick of Mobius, who didn't trust them to be free. It is unclear when it was put in, but it was before Mobius's departure.

I also never understood why the "malfunction" of the sink's autodoc operation procedure was never corrected. I can only guess that the Think Tank *wanted* the lobotomite zombies wandering around for their test procedures. But I don't remember any actual dialogue or reading on a terminal (possible since I started to skip them) confirming that indeed the "malfunction" of the auto-doc was intentional.

Or it was part of Mobius's influence.

In any event, my courier "reasoned" with Morbius to get my brain back. Then I introduced him to a bottlecap mine. Mercy killing. As for Josef Mengele and his proteges in the Think Tank, the grenade machine gun was too good for them.

It's so much more fun just to talk them into peace. You get to out-ham them all.

Ahh, good luck with that blasted collar. ;)

I used Dog in my one DM playthrough. He was quite effective, I thought. Mostly it was because I couldn't remember how to switch back and forth between them, until very late. Oops. But my stealth tactic worked well, with him being a meat shield, while I used drone strikes, so to speak. BTW, to switch, there is a recording to play, or a note to read, iirc. Took me a while to sift through the Pip-Boy to find either.

I thought it made sense chronologically to do DM before OWB, but I guess they could be interchangeable.

Yes, there is a choice and Dog is far more useful in combat, but God is smarter! Ghost people have to be hacked apart once you put them down to destroy them for good, or they will jump back up and continue fighting. Dog is a beast at melee and eats Ghost people once he defeats them. Pretty dark...but that's Dead Money.

Dead money is difficult, so if you have problems navigating it, speak up.

So my "Magnificent Bastard" Courier just did the Independent ending.

Caesar and Lanius are dead meaning the east wont be a threat.
The NCR is humiliated with its President in shame, Hanlon running against em, and Oliver a pancake
Plus most towns and people around the Mojave are allies to the Courier.

Its kinda amusing that a random schmuck can do all that.

Also... Oliver deserved what he got telling a guy you would hang him IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS ARMY just screams :KILL ME!"

If you play Dead Money, be sure to get Dog's perk from conversation: if you talk to him, you can get a perk that allows you to kill the Ghost People easier by making it possible to cripple their limbs faster. If you cripple a limb, you kill them. (At least with melee.) Since you can switch between God and Dog, don't miss it.

Also, try to get Christine's perk to jury-rig Sierra Madre chips. That is amazingly useful come returning to the Wasteland.

Is there a mod called FOUI, the SkyUI equivalent for this game? The inventory "management" in this game is the worst I've ever experienced and that's saying something since I've played games on the Commodore 64.

^ You must not have played Oblivion, then? Image IPB

I think, and maybe I've just embellished this thought in my mind, but I think the Pip-Boy is kind of clunky, because of the era it was from. If you had played FO3, you'd see a bit more of the landscape and 'technology' that was around at the time of the Great War. The cars, the furniture, the architecture, everything screamed 50s to me. With that in mind, I guess it made sense that the Pip-Boy would be less advanced than what we're used to, today.

Of course, that's just me speculating. I'll agree, it's very low-tech, and at times, annoying. I like it, though. Makes me feel like I'm playing Fallout. Image IPB

There's nothing to fix inventory management, it is just a mess that way and apparently no one cared enough about it anyway. There are two good UI replacers I know about, MTUI and Darnified UI, the second one is a little hard to find because the download is on the Bethesda forums, not on the nexus.

So I replayed the final mission just now.

I seriously love the Enclave Remnants.

Lanius : FOR THE LEGION!
Moreno: FOR NAVARO!

Then he blows his head off.
Followed by them all doing the Old man "sigh of disgust" noise in unison.

Now to do my Legion PT, and knock off the last 6 or so achievements.

I use MTUI. As far as I know, its the best interface extension out there. It extends the screens downward for the Pip Boy, conversations and barter, making them twice as long. It really helped me. I'm weird I suppose, but I actually like the interface, old world tech and all. With MTUI, it becomes usable for most I would imagine.

EDIT: Here's the link.

And as to your question, no, there is nothing comparable to SkyUI...at least that I've seen.

I thought Mobius did that to the Think Tank to make certain they never posed a direct threat to the outside world, which is why he always kept distracting them by being a menace to them with his robo-scorpion army so that the Think Tank focuses on protecting themselves, rather than escaping Big MT (and explaining as much when the Courier finally confronts him in the Forbidden Zone)?

They definitely are interchangeable but I have to admit that it still makes more sense to me from a storytelling standpoint to do DM first. That way the little nods in OWB will have a little more meaning. That might just be me and my roleplayer's bias though.

I've been distracted from my latest NV playthrough for a while now but it's right around the time I typically start DM, so maybe I'll get back to it soonish.

^I do DM first and I love what Ulysses says on his recordings about the Sierra Madre. Its kind of praise for the courier, I wonder if he thought the courier was going to end up going to the Sierra Madre or if he just assumed someone would eventually outsmart Elijah. Regardless, loved when he said someone smarter and stronger was going to kill Elijah.

^And the Sierra Madre would end up being his grave. Damn right it would! SOB.

All the references in OWB make much more sense playing DM first...imo. Honest Hearts can be played at anytime really. While HH certainly has its references to Ulysses, and as it turns out he is the courier Joshua Graham is expecting, I find it the most remote from the DLC story line.

However one sees HH, I personally feel that DM, OWB and LR should be played back to back, in that order as they build up the story of Ulysses and an ultimate show down with the Courier. Just seems to flow best that way to me personally. No matter what, I feel that LR should be last because it is so climactic.

My thoughts exactly. Sure the ending slides for OWB kind of heavily suggest that LR should come next anyway, but even without taking those into consideration I feel the play order of DM>OWB>LR works the best since it gradually pushes more and more reference to Ulysses til the end. I'll be honest in that I wasn't wholly crazy about HH so I kind of just play it whenever. I first played each on release and I felt it really fits to put some odds and ends side and main quests between DM and OWB (again playing HH whenever) and then saving LR right before the battle of Hoover Dam.

Well time to start my last and final courier.

Going to be my legion siding courier with high luck.
Means I can get the final achievements except for Hardcore.

Never did a pro legion PT....could be interesting. Going to have to kill off my favorite characters though I guess.

They will all die this run.

Then I will huddle in a corner making strange sobbing noises at having killed so many awesome characters.

Just like when I did my evil run in Origins and only had Oghren, Sten, Loghain, and Dog left.
Thank god I was playing a mage with the lock breaking mod.....

They fight for their respective flags.

You for yours.

A prospective and new Nation, An expansive empire controlling territory about in scope to the modern size of France.

The Might of the bull is based about respectiveful and honorable tradition that were rare on earth even before the Great War.

._. Believe me freind i can make compelling agruments about the Legion all day :P

Yeah, I've heard them all. The arguments are just not that compelling or convincing to me personally. I have no problems whatsoever that others may find purpose or reasons to play a game in a different way than I would...at all. After all, what sense is doing something for entertainment if you're not going to be entertained?

Like I've said before, I'm still trying to find a personally appropriate motivation and outlook for a Legion character, where I can play the game and actually enjoy the run. No luck thus far.

Now that New Vegas appears to be running well on my PC, after a fairly comprehensive overhaul, I think the cowboy character I've always wanted to play is probably going to be up next.
