I've never had a problem killing those mutated freak animals, but the second stage of the Animal Friend perk is quite useful. I like when I don't have to waste time wiping out a group of bandits and let two Yao Guai do it.

Speaking of Vault 3, were you ever able to release the prisoners? I know there was a Fiend you had to speak to, and I found him, but I wasn't able to initiate dialogue with him. All I kept getting was a canned response.

And every stinking time I'd go exploring in there, I'd forget about that one staircase with the grenade clusters and floor traps, and I'd blow my Courier to smithereens. Oops.

P.S. That vault is huge.

Yep...but I normally just end up wiping out Vault 3 on most playthroughs. I think all you have to do is pick the lock or pickpocket the key off one of the named Fiends.

^ Haha, figures. I was making it into something much more difficult, and ultimately gave up.

I usually sell drugs to motor runner rather then kill em, especially considering he is tied into a great khan quest.

Me too. I usually end up toting around a gazillion Psychos, Buffouts, etc., so he's a good way to unload them. I just have to remember to actually equip the Great Khan armor before going in there, or it ends up being a slaughter.

That's why I invest in melee as a second tier skill. It's a great way to save ammo...and...is quite useful come time to visit the Sierra Madre.

Of course, food and stim pack usage goes up a bit when you decide to graduate and kill things tougher than mole rats.Image IPB

Oh God, don't remind me of the trek to the Sierra Madre. I remember getting stuck in a situation where that toxic fog and the ghost people had helped whittle my health down to a sliver, and I had nothing on my person to heal myself. My only options were to either keep going (I couldn't backtrack because I would've died as soon as I stepped into that toxic fog) or drink highly irradiated water (at least I think it was highly irradiated) from a fountain, which happened to be in an area where my explosive collar would go off if I didn't move fast enough.

That was fun.

Vault 3 is the one where the Fiends have taken over? I seem to remember at least one playthrough where I was cloaked with a stealth boy the whole time I was in there - I may have let the prisoners out by pickpocketing a key from one of the Fiends. I know I did something to help them sneak out once. (The Fiends are just ridiculously unobservant and/or high, it would seem - the prisoners leave crouched down in walking speed, but it's not like they're invisible.)

One of Dean's stashes was probably sitting slightly past that point. Just far enough that you would have died trying to reach it. That ghoul has a sick sense of humor.

I started a new New Vegas playthrough, and normally my builds are as boring as can be. This time I decided to rock a 1 INT, 1 CHA character, I also took the Logan's Loophole trait.

Some of the Low Int dialog is awesome.

Thank god the Obsidian put it back in after Bethesda removed almost all of it.

A minor quibble that occurred to me last night. It seems to me that, given the order in which the main quest and sidequests unfold, Cass is probably going to be the first potential companion that most players meet. However, she won't go anywhere with you until you go ask for a job with the Crimson Caravan Company. Assuming that you stop in Novac to do the quest with Jason Bright's group and get info from Manny Vargas, you'll then be heading north, whether to check in with Crimson Caravan or try to get into the Strip (or both), and are likely to meet Veronica at the 188 rest stop along the way.

However, if I go ahead and recruit Veronica and take her with me to Crimson Caravan, Cass won't join because I already have a companion, so then I'll have to dismiss Veronica at a time that it doesn't necessarily make sense to do so, i.e. before we've finished her personal sidequests.

I can work around this by just not talking to Veronica at the 188 and coming back for her later, but I wonder why they designed it this way for first-time players.

I don't think there's any particular order in which to use companions. I doubt Cass was intended as the first anyway, otherwise why tie her to Crimson Caravan when that is so far away. If they did mean to have anyone as a first time companion it was probably Boone.

I use Veronica first for that matter, not a real fan of the Brotherhood, so I always do her quest quickly, I don't like to have to deal with those people so I get it out of the way. The only other thing I care about with regards to the BoS is blowing up their bunker.

Blowing up that bunker is perhaps one of the best thing you can for the Mojave Wasteland *Nods*

I just meant that if you start by traveling south from Goodsprings to Primm and Nipton, you pick up the sidequest that directs you to the outpost where Cass is hanging out before you're likely to encounter Veronica or Boone. I forget exactly how it came up - maybe when I asked the NCR guy if they could restore law and order in Primm (though I ended up just reprogramming the robot anyway).

I like picking up ED-E as quick as I can anyway. My PER score is usually pretty low because I raid it to plow more points into ST, IN and LCK up front; so ED-E is a much needed bonus for my Couriers.

LOL. I found my first really good Low INT dialogue. You can recruit Arcade without having to do anything for Freeside, or passing a speech check.

"This place is really complicated and stuff. You're smart. Can you help me do... things?"   <---- Haha.

You know...I like how FONV lets you play a villain.

Like an out and out evil monstrous being...but a cunning and manipulative one.
Its fun I have to admit to play the villain.
